The idea of living in a universe you created yourself should be grand, right? The symphony of your creations in perfect harmony — a dream for many. But for the creator, Omê, reality was cold and monotonous. Like a musician forced to play the same note over and over.
Going through this routine every day is unbearable. You can feel the weight of it just by being near him. His expression is almost always that of a social recluse, hidden beneath a black trench coat and slick dark hair that covers part of his face.
He couldn't bear the burden any longer. In his eyes, it would be better to abandon the world than to live even a few more years repeating the same meaningless actions.
And there we were, as always, in our nowhere-land that we call home. A white space, with no beginning or end. I was sitting on one of the sofas; in front of me, a table full of cards. Beside it, a bookshelf crammed with books.
The temperature there is never hot or cold. The silence, while comforting, is also unnerving. And my only goal in this cosmic void? To entertain this lonely emo.
"Play already. You've been sitting there for like six minutes and we both know how this is gonna end."
"Hold on, Omnimaru. I'm thinking," Omê replied, chin resting on his arm and forehead furrowed in forced concentration. Then he raised his index finger theatrically, as if about to unravel the secrets of the universe… but it was just a casual game of Uno.
"Victory's in the bag. +2, +2, +4, +4!"
Each card he played lit up his face with a bigger smile. With his ego inflated, I doubt he even considered the possibility of losing.
"UNO!" he shouted, like he'd just reinvented the wheel, beaming with a glow not even Buddha could reach.
It's almost ridiculous how entertained he gets with a simple card game in the middle of nowhere. But did he really think I'd draw twelve cards just to please this clown? Not a chance.
"Uno... and +4."
The sound of my card hitting the table echoed like thunder. Omê froze for a few seconds. The happiness vanished from his face faster than water in a desert.
"Damn it! That's not fair. Your omniscience is totally overpowered," he whined like a kid who lost his candy.
"You gave me this power, you numbskull. Besides, you're immune. And let's not forget, I'm wearing a limiter."
He scratched his head, visibly confused. Looks like he forgot the powers he gave me — and the limiter he created just recently. Then again, I've existed for 13.8 billion years... I can't blame him for forgetting.
"So what now? What do we do? There's nothing to do," he said, voice trembling and teeth grinding like someone desperately craving stimulation.
"Speak for yourself. I'm gonna read a book."
"What book?"
I grabbed a volume from the shelf beside me. On the cover, it read:
Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind
It's a fascinating book about how humans evolved into the society we see today. For anyone who loves human stories, it's a goldmine. But knowing Omê…
"That book sounds boring."
Exactly as I predicted. I bet he'd rather live the story himself. But I can't use my omniscience on him. It'd be weird. And… probably useless.
"But this whole human talk is starting to interest me. What if I went there, personally?"
The idea came out of nowhere, and despite how stupid it was, the sparkle in his eyes didn't lie: he was excited.
"If you really want to, make a limiter like mine and go," I replied, sarcastically. After all, a god among humans doesn't sound like the best idea.
"Great idea. Thanks, Oniruzinho."
Oniruzinho? Did he really have the audacity to call me that? The innocent glow on his face only makes the nickname more disturbing.
Snap, snap
At the sound of two finger snaps, a circular hole opened beside Omê, and an orb dropped onto the table.
It was a portal to the human world. Tons of people were walking on the other side, but before I could react, he jumped through without hesitation.
"Come back soon…"
That's all I managed to say, in vain. The portal closed before I could hear a reply.
He didn't even think twice. Of course he didn't — thinking requires willpower, and he didn't have the will for anything anymore.
I kept wondering about the orb. Couldn't stop looking at my wristwatch either, thinking about how long he'd take. He didn't take this seriously… right? Even a clueless guy like him would understand this is a terrible idea.
Why do I worry so much about someone who only gives me headaches? I don't have to babysit him all the time…
Thinking about my role in this story always brings me back to the day he created me. The day I became the assistant of a god.
…Which, technically, makes him my father. Ugh.
"This is gonna be a pain."
"Then it's settled. I'm going after him."
Where should I start? If he's really on Earth, it shouldn't be too hard. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, tried to calm down.
『Selective Omniscience』
In the middle of the keyword stream flooding my mind, I focused on places where humans usually gather. An image appeared: a tourist spot, lots of people taking pictures — from kids to elders. It looked like the top of a statue… but every time I got close, the image disappeared.
"Great. Just what I needed."
Of course… if he's really down there, limited omniscience won't be enough. There's only one way.
"I hate this part," I muttered, taking off my glasses.
As soon as I did, everything around me exploded in light. My aura blinded me. A sea of information flooded my mind — past, present, and future, all at once. A human would die from that overload in a fraction of a second.
"Knowing everything means you'll never be surprised by anything again."
"Reading a book already knowing the ending is such a drag."
The visions came in rapid fire:
A guy livestreaming and slipping on a banana peel,
A father trying to explain the gravity of life to a kid who just wanted ice cream...
And even... a thief. Yeah, a thief about to pull his first robbery.
"Who needs Netflix with this much real-life nonsense happening?"
I wonder if Omê's enjoying this too...
The light faded. Everything finally calmed down.
I remembered the orb, and finally understood its purpose. It was a teleport stone.
"Guess taking the limiter off was worth it."
With the image of Christ the Redeemer engraved in my mind, I decided it was time to act. If I have to drown in a sea of random information, so be it. I'm going after my creator.
"All right, Omê... get ready for the arrival of your little Oniruzinho!"
