I laid back on my bed as I thought, "So I was adopted by an Earl. Does that complicate things or make them easier? I know every character in this book because of those girls, so I'd know if there was a character named after me."
"Miss Selene, you need to get ready to meet your fiancé."
I jumped up as I exclaimed, "Fiancé?!"
The maid looked annoyed before saying, "Yes, fiancé. And please use your indoor voice. Your father Lord Lucian told you this a week ago and I've been reminding you every day. To think you forgot after being so nervous about meeting him."
I stiffened up before saying, "Fine then... uh I kind of might have forgotten your name."
She curtsied before saying, "Beatrix Ravenscroft your personal maid. My lady."
I sat up as I said, "Nice to meet you... again Trixie."
"Trixie?"
"Yeah it's a nickname. Do you mind?"
"Of course not my lady, you may call me whatever you want."
I stood up as I stretched, I had made up my mind. I was going to live this life to the fullest. I was going to take full advantage and wouldn't let fear stop me from doing whatever I wanted.
After arguing with the maids for about 15 minutes they finally let me bathe myself. All the clothes in my wardrobe were incredibly fancy and didn't exactly look convenient to run around in.
So I picked the simplest thing in my wardrobe, a simple red dress. I walked down the hall of this enormous mansion as Trixie said, "My lady you do know at one point you're going to have to wear more grand dresses."
'So the girl before me also didn't like wearing those dresses, makes sense, if I had to guess I'd say she used to be a commoner.'
I smiled as I said, "I'll wear those types of dresses when it's necessary."
We arrived in the garden as I froze. I was staring at one, if not the most handsome man I had ever met.
He had short blonde hair with piercing green eyes. As he turned towards me he stood up gently grabbing my hand kissing it as he said, "It's nice to finally meet you, milady." a smile on his face.
It was too much and I ended up fainting. What can I say, I'm a sucker for good looking people.
I woke up lying on a bed as I saw a 21 year old man pacing back and forth in the room with a worried look on his face.
I sat up as I saw his face better. It was the angel from before! He noticed me as he ran towards me asking if I was ok..
I smiled as I said, "Yeah I'm fine, really. I'm sorry for worrying you. I'm..."
He cut me off before I could finish as he said, "Selene Deacon? My fiancé?"
So that was my new family name! Not half bad.
"That's right and you are...?"
"Eugene Adonis milady."
"Wait, did you say Eugene Adonis?"
"Yes?"
If I remember right he was a kind man, who also led his territory with kindness but eventually passed away young from something, it wasn't really explained in the plot, or I wasn't listening when they were talking about him.
He was a fan favorite because of his looks and not only how he treated women but everybody around him.
He met the heroine a few times eventually becoming her friend and ended up losing his hand protecting her. Because she was being a brat. One of the reasons I disliked her.
I smiled as I said, "nice to meet you Eugene." Before standing up as I said, "Well then let's walk around the garden."
Trixie, Eugene and the other maids tried to stop me saying I needed to rest more, but eventually gave up.
I walked around the garden that was incredible, the flowers, plants, everything was beautiful and amazing.
I turned to Eugene as I asked, "Do you like gardens?"
"Yes, I do milady. I especially enjoy reading in gardens."
I stopped as I said, "Reading huh, that's cool and by the way you can drop the milady and call me Selene or whatever nickname you want."
Eugene blushed as he asked, "Are you sure that's okay?"
"Yeah it totally is" I replied while trying not to tell him how cute he looked when he was blushing.
"Ok then... L-lady Selene." Eugene mumbled, turning even redder.
I froze. How could someone be this cute?
I cleared my throat before saying, "Also drop the miss and just call me Selene."
"S-s... I'm sorry I can't do it, it's too much." he replied, bowing his face as red as a tomato.
I couldn't help but smile as I said, "It's fine and you don't have to apologies for something like that." While trying to keep myself from ruffling his hair. After all he was embarrassed enough, I didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable with me.
I continued walking through the garden as I asked, "So are you a knight?" hoping to figure out how he may have died.
"No, I'm not a fan of fighting. But I'm often told that my enhancement would be great for a knight."
"Enhancement?"
"Ah yes, I was told you were a commoner before, so you probably don't know. Every person has an enhancement, it increases your physical abilities or senses beyond that of a normal human being. Mine is a strength enhancement."
"How do you find out your enhancement?"
"It should be activated by now considering your age, but to find out you'd need to visit an astrologer."
"Interesting, so this world doesn't use magic, that's kind of a bummer and are astrologer's here different from the one's on earth?" I mumbled to myself.
Eugene and I continued talking and he was more of an introvert, he preferred spending his time reading books in the garden or by the fireplace. He wasn't a fighter and liked animals. He preferred to read rather than talk. He was pretty awkward and didn't know how to talk to people. He wrote books...
It was the first time in a while I had talked to someone like this, it was... fun. It was like I had finally found a real friend after a long time.
And before I knew it Eugene was leaving. He was good looking, super nice, he was a good listener and I loved the incredible stories he told me about the books he wrote.
I had never fallen in love or had a crush before. I had always just thought people were super good looking.
I didn't know what love felt like yet something told me he wasn't the one. Would my feelings change over time? Would he be the first person I'd fall in love with? Would I ever fall in love?
Would I actually have a happy life in this world?
I sighed before walking back into the mansion or palace, I still didn't know what to call it.
My head hurt from all the thinking as I went to have dinner.
