Chapter 39 - chapter 39

Percy reacted the fastest.

He frowned, reached out and touched his chest—his face suddenly changed.

"My Prefect Badge!"

There was a hint of panic in his voice. He suddenly looked up and found Peeves dangling his Prefect Badge mockingly in his hand.

"Looking for this?" Peeves chuckled, tossing the badge high in the air before clamping it between two fingers just before it hit the ground.

"Give it back, Peeves!" Percy demanded, face stern. "Do you want me to call the Bloody Baron?"

Peeves cackled. "In such a hurry!" He ignored the threat. Though he feared the Bloody Baron, he knew the Baron was still in the Great Hall right now.

Percy pulled out his wand, his expression grim.

Peeves laughed even louder, spinning in the air, waving his limbs exaggeratedly.

"Charms are useless on me!" he jeered, making a face. "What are you going to do, Mr. Prefect?"

Percy's face turned even darker. He knew Peeves was right—ordinary charms couldn't touch a ghost.

Just then—

"Ah, what's going on here?"

A voice called from the back of the line.

Harry, amidst the crowd, thought the tone sounded familiar. He turned—and sure enough, Vison was strolling toward them, unhurried.

"The corridor isn't for lounging," Vison said gently as he approached. "What's happened?"

When Vison got closer, he saw Percy and Peeves locked in a standoff.

"Oh, it's you, Peeves. Up to your old tricks again?" Vison's smile faded as he fixed Peeves with a stern gaze.

Vison had never liked Peeves. The poltergeist did nothing but cause mischief day in and day out.

Peeves blinked when he saw Vison, and his smirk vanished.

"It's you!" he gasped, visibly alarmed.

Vison noted Peeves' nervous reaction and smiled slightly. "Seems you still remember me."

Peeves turned pale and began to drift backward, clearly ready to flee.

"Professor, he still has my badge!" Percy quickly reminded Vison.

Vison nodded. In a flash, his wand appeared in his hand.

"Full Body-Bind Curse!"

As soon as the words were spoken, an ordinary-looking rope shot from the tip of Vison's wand.

In an instant, it wrapped tightly around Peeves, binding him from head to toe—with a neat bow tied on top.

Peeves struggled desperately. "Let me go! Let me go!" he screamed, panic in his voice.

He couldn't understand how Vison's charm could bind him—a ghost. It was just like years ago. Back then, Vison had restrained him the same way.

In truth, the Full Body-Bind Curse was Vison's specialty.

While his skills with other charms were average, no one in the world understood this spell better than he did.

He was a true master of bondage spells.

A regular wizard's Full Body-Bind Curse might summon only a rope.

But Vison could conjure anything—chains, barbed vines, even ropes capable of trapping spirits.

During the recent Dragon trial, he'd summoned enchanted chains to bind a transfigured dragon.

Now, the bound Peeves finally gave up struggling, slumping to the floor with a pale face. Percy's badge clattered to the ground beside him.

"I surrender, sir. Do whatever you want," Peeves muttered.

But Vison couldn't truly deal with him—Peeves was an immortal poltergeist.

The most Vison could do was bind him temporarily. But maintaining the ropes drained Vison's magic power quickly, making it a tiresome task.

So whenever he caught Peeves, he only tied him up for a few hours to teach him a lesson.

Sadly, no amount of punishment could change Peeves' nature. He always went back to his pranks afterward.

After subduing Peeves, Vison picked up the fallen badge and handed it to Percy.

"This is yours, right? Prefect Badge—if you really value it, you'd best keep it safer."

"Thank you, Professor Weasley," Percy said, letting out a relieved sigh. He took the badge, his expression a mix of embarrassment and gratitude.

Thanks to Vison's help, he was spared further humiliation.

At that moment, applause broke out among the first-year students watching.

It started with one person, then spread until everyone was clapping.

Vison nodded, smiling as he bowed slightly. "Ah, thank you. But I must go now. If Peeves troubles you again, come find me. I can always tie him up for a few more hours."

He pocketed his wand and turned to leave, heading in the opposite direction of the student line—toward his office.

As he passed Harry, Vison gave his head a light pat and whispered, "Thank you for your applause, Harry."

"You're welcome," Harry said, eyes shining with excitement.

After dealing with Peeves, Vison headed for his office.

Each professor at Hogwarts was provided with a dormitory, and Vison's living quarters were connected to his office.

But it wasn't time to rest yet.

When he opened his door, he noticed two new parchments lying on his desk.

It appeared that Professor McGonagall had prepared them for him.

One was his course schedule; the other was a list of students who had chosen Care of Magical Creatures.

Of all the subjects at Hogwarts, Care of Magical Creatures was perhaps the easiest for a professor to handle.

It was an elective with fewer students, open only to those in third year and above.

In fact, most students dropped it after their fifth year, once they'd completed their O.W.L.s.

Only a few, those who loved the subject or needed it for their N.E.W.T.s, continued beyond that.

This year, there weren't any students above fifth year enrolled.

As a result, Vison's teaching schedule wasn't packed.

Compared to professors handling core subjects, he had much more free time.

Which suited him—more time for his personal research.

After confirming his schedule and checking through the student list, Vison leaned back in his chair.

His first official day teaching at Hogwarts had come to an end.

A smooth, successful day.
