Chapter 28 - The Blessing

Sir Alfred, glancing out the window, said,

"Your Highness, it is already evening..."

The Count replied,

"Oh! It is already that late! Son, let us move so it wouldn't cause more suspicions than it already has..."

The Baron nodded in agreement. All three of them left while Alicia was waving them. Both the Count and Baron boarded one carriage while Elmer boarded Baron's carriage. Inside the carriage, the Baron began talking to his father.

The Baron said,

"Father, it seems there are too many moles in our place. We have to lay traps and glaze them".

The Count, in agreement, said,

"Yes, we should do that. But right now, we have a more pressing matter regarding Alicia. Able to use the Concealing magic, a magic only heard in legends, surely if it were polished, it would help her avenge her parents sooner than expected. But neither of us has that much knowledge in magic, much less concealing magic..."

The Baron, pondering, said,

"Can't we use the grimoires and scripts in the Herbert mansion?"

The Count replied,

"No... Bella once said that grimoires and scripts are not very helpful if there is no one to teach..."

The Baron, now worried, murmured,

"If only we could bring someone from the Mage district to Cia... but that would not be possible and would attract the Emperor's attention even more..."

The Count exclaimed,

"Great Idea, son!"

The Baron's face filled with pure confusion. Then a thought flashed, which was the same as the Count's. They both decided to tell Alicia the next time they visit.

In Sir Alfred's quarters, after having dinner, Alicia bid good night to Sir Alfred and went to her room. Sir Alfred, who was still worried about Alicia, asked her again and again if she was okay. But Alicia nodded each time. This worried Sir Alfred more. But he decided to give her some space.

In her room, Alicia sobbed uncontrollably. This unknown power, which everyone believed to be a blessing, was a hindrance to Alicia. She wished to have divine powers like her father, which could prove her identity in the future, helping her revenge. But now she deemed it impossible. She felt as if the world was denying her to take revenge.

She whispered,

"That bastard of an Emperor! How much does the world favour him? Would I ever be able to avenge my parents like this? Hey Goddess Serandria, please give me some help. Help me avenge my parents, help get stronger with this newfound power of mine... Please give me a way..."

She fell asleep whispering these words. The next morning, she went to train with Sir Alfred. Her focus was shifted due to all these incidents. Noticing that, Sir Alfred called an early break.

He asked Alicia,

"Princess... is it quite hard to focus? Please tell me anything that is on your mind. I will help to the best of my ability."

Alicia explained everything. How she felt uncomfortable with this new power, and how she was scared it would ruin her plans for revenge, and how she was confused with everyone saying it was a blessing.

Sir Alfred explained,

"Princess, there is no such thing as a 'rule' to be called as an Imperial family member. If anything, amber-like gold eyes such as yours would be sufficient to prove your identity. And about your power, you can use it to kill someone, but nobody could blame you. They'd have no proof to suspect you. Hence, we call it a blessing."

Alicia sighed with relief. They both continued their practice.
