Chapter 11 - Shadows Of The World (Chapter 11)

Shin Kratos shut the nurse's office door behind him.

Inside, Head Nurse Kyoko, Nurse Emi, and Nurse Aoi lay sprawled across the exam table and floor, flushed and completely satisfied, their bodies trembling and marked with his fingerprints and bite marks. The room still pulsed with heat, but Shin's mind had already moved on.

The hallway was very quiet. Evening had begun to set across the sky.

He walked slowly through the polished corridors of Hano Medical University, the glow of the setting sun casting golden light through the tall glass walls. Students passed him with polite nods and shy faces, their eyes lingering a little longer than they should. He barely acknowledged them as he nodded and walked past. His mind was elsewhere.

He needed some air. He walked up some stairs to the top of the university.

The rooftop was empty when Shin stepped out, the wind brushing across his skin as he gazed at the horizon. The sun was dipping below the line of distant mountains, bleeding crimson and violet across the sky. Beyond Hano's high-tech perimeter fences, the hospital, and the close surrounding buildings was a side of the country Shin hadn't experienced yet.

The forgotten side.

Shin leaned forward against the railing, eyes narrowed as he took in the jagged skyline of slums in the distance. Half-collapsed rooftops. Trash-filled alleys. Faint movement of figures, women and girls, scavenging for food or sitting still with empty eyes.

"They built all this for us," he muttered, "but left them to rot."

He wasn't naïve. He understood what he was: a commodity. A resource. A living, breathing currency in a world where male life was priceless. The UW had wrapped it in velvet and gold, but chains were still chains whether they were gold or copper.

The longer he watched the broken world outside the gates, the more one question clawed at his mind: Does the UW care about rebuilding the world... or just controlling it?

His jaw clenched. What about Code Number 2, Reito?

Shin respected him. At least on paper. A man chasing a cure instead of his own selfish desires. But something about Reito's position, his handlers, and the attention around him unsettled Shin. He felt like Reito was in immense danger. It was just a gut feeling. Shin still felt like it was weird Reito hadn't mated with anybody yet, but he respected his decision.

Shin believed though Reito was too naïve to save this world. Shin knew himself very well. He wasn't above using extreme methods to get what he wanted and to reach his goal. He didn't care if people hated him to get there.

Shin didn't know where the thoughts came from. Only that it felt true.

The sound of heels clicking softly on concrete pulled him from his thoughts.

Doctor Yuna stepped into view, hair gently tousled by the breeze. She wasn't in her usual lab coat. She was just in a fitted navy blouse and dark slacks, more casual than normal. She didn't speak right away as she fixed her glasses on her face.

"I figured you'd be up here," she said at last.

Shin didn't look at her. Just kept his gaze on the city.

"It's easier to breathe up here."

Yuna moved beside him, hands folded behind her back.

"I know what you're thinking," she said. "You're wondering if all this… effort to save humanity is just a smokescreen for control."

Shin finally turned his head.

"Am I wrong?"

She hesitated. "No. But not everyone in the UW is corrupt. Some of us… do want to rebuild. We believe in it. It is mainly the UW World Headquarters that have bad intentions. Especially the Three Magi. The Japanese Branch... we are doing our best to make things right."

"You believe in me?"

She smiled faintly. "More than I should."

A moment passed in silence, the wind wrapping around them like a quiet song. Shin stepped closer, leaned in, and without a word, kissed her forehead. Yuna's eyes widened slightly, her cheeks blooming pink as she processed his kiss.

"I'll protect what matters," Shin said while smiling. "No matter what side of the fence it's on."

Then he turned and walked away, leaving Yuna alone on the rooftop. Her fingers gently brushed her forehead with a quiet smile as she thought to herself what kind of man Shin is deep down beneath all that mysteriousness.

Back in his penthouse, Shin took a long, hot shower. Steam rose off his body as he scrubbed away the sweat and the scent of pleasure, leaving his skin clean but his mind still restless. Towel around his waist, he stepped into the bedroom, flopped onto the bed, and grabbed the UW-issued iPad.

Name after name. Face after face. Student. Nurse. Trainer. Scientist. He studied their profiles one by one. Memorizing preferences. Personalities. Weaknesses. Desires. Not just because they were his, but because he intended to lead them. Rule them. Protect them. Empower the ones who gave themselves freely to him.

He made sure he knew everyone under his domain so he could look out for them. Shin was very protective over his people. Even people he didn't know super well, as long as he knew they were loyal to him. He would instantly tear anyone to shreds and burn the world to give justice to his harem as well as close friends.

By the time the screen dimmed and Shin set the iPad aside, the moon had climbed high above Hano's towers. His body was still getting used to being so active again. He was sexually active before the MK Virus, but not to this extent.

Shin still had a lot to prepare for in the future. He knew the things he needed to work on in order to conquer the world with his harem. Shin wouldn't let the UW kill all men or control all the women and give them a bad life.

He spoiled his beautiful princesses.

This college was just the beginning of a lot of pleasure, pain, action, mystery, and much more. He was going to be prepared for it all the best he could be, no matter what. Shin's face melted into his pillow as his eyes started to close.

It had been a very long day.
