Chapter 13 - First Day In Sanctum

The next morning Mr Mealin took Kelvin to his room at the Sanctum dormitory before he left to his office.

The events of the previous day was still vivid in his mind. The Awakening Hall, the revelation of Xerion's SSS-class status, and the overwhelming power that came with it.

With a soft knock they interrupted Darius who was occupy the room before they came.

Kelvin asked, "Do you mind if I come in?"

Darius sat up, rubbing his eyes as he went straight to open the door. "Sure you can come in." He said to the person that knocked as he opened the door.

The door went open, revealing Kelvin's face and he greeted with a friendly smile.

"I am Kelvin," he introduced himself and "I am Darius," he introduced himself as well and both of them had a hand shake.

When kelvin came into the room with few of his luggage, he sat on one side of the bed that was close to the window leaving his luggage at the center of the room.

"I am posted to this room, so am you roommate," Kelvin said. "Welcome to the room and feel free to ask me for anything," Darius said.

While Kelvin was unpacking his things, he helped him to arrange his things. This didn't take them time to do because Kelvin's luggage was few, he only came with the few things that Mr Mealin could buy for him yesterday.

When they were done, Darius made two cup of tea for both of them, he handed one over to Kelvin as and said, "I thought you might need this."

Kelvin accepted the mug gratefully. "Thank you for this."

Darius took a seat on the edge of the bed opposite Kelvin's bed. "So, you are the one everyone had been talking about yesterday, the tamer with the SSS-class beast."

Kelvin chuckled nervously. "Hmm words travel fast."

Darius nodded in agreement. "Especially when it is something as rare as yours. Most of us are still trying to bond with D or C-class beasts. Having an SSS-class beast is... unprecedented."

Kelvin took a sip of the warm beverage. "To be honest it was overwhelming, I barely had an understanding of the bond, let alone on how to control it."

Darius leaned back, with a thoughtful expression. "I can imagine but it is not just about the beast's rank. It is also about the bond you share with your beast, the understanding between the tamer and the beast."

Kelvin looked up in awe. "You sound like you have been here for a while."

"Two years," Darius confirmed. "I'm currently in the Elite class. My beast is a B-class Storm Lynx, and I have a Harmonized Bond with my beast. It has taken time, patience and a lot of training for me to get to this point."

Kelvin had an agreement with what he said. "I have a lot to learn."

Darius smiled. "We all do have a lot to learn and unlearn, with time we will get better. The Sanctum's curriculum is designed to help us grow, both in theory and practice." Darius said.

When they were done with the tea that morning, Kelvin and Darius made their way straight to the lecture halls.

The corridors were busy with activities as students moved between classes with their beasts trailing behind them or coiled on their shoulders.

The first class for the day that morning was "Beast Lore and Ecology," which was taught by Master Elara, a strict woman with white hair and piercing cat eyes.

She stood at the front of the lecture hall with a large chalkboard that was standing behind her filled with diagrams of various beasts.

The lecturer went on to teach and she said, "Understanding your beast's natural habitat, behavior and instincts is crucial to enable you have a good bond with it.

A tamer who knows his or her beast's origin can forge a deeper bond with his bond."

Kelvin sat down at the front and took his notes carefully, he was fascinated by the details about the ecosystem of the beast and the relationship between different species of beast.

After which the next course was "Sigil Symbology," which was led by Professor Thorne, a tall man with a high pitch voice and a strong habit for dramatic abilities.

He went into the complexities of different sigil patterns, their meanings, and how they influence the bond between a tamer and his or her beast in details.

"Each sigil is unique," he explained, he went ahead into drawing elaborate designs on the board. "These sigils represent the very essence of your bond, the relationship between your soul and that of your beast."

Kelvin glanced at the faint glow of his own sigil with a sense of purpose.

After the morning classes the students had their break which was followed by the afternoon class when the students headed to the training grounds for "Combat Synchronization."

This class is a class that was focused on coordination between a tamer and his or her beast.

The instructor was Captain Rhea and she was a no-nonsense woman who had a military background.

She started off her teaching by saying that trust is the most important thing that is needed between a tamer and his or her beast, "Your beast must be able to predict your moves, and you must be able to predict theirs.

In a battle, hesitation can be fatal, so you must try as much as possible to avoid hesitation but you must learn to take tactful moves," she said.

Kelvin watched as different pairs demonstrated their synchronization, moving in perfect harmony. When it was his turn, he hesitated because he was unsure of how to proceed with Xerion.

"Focus," Darius whispered. "Try to feel the bond."

Closing his eyes, Kelvin reached out mentally to Xerion.

With a surge of energy it responded, and together they executed series of maneuvers that where rough around the edges, they showcased their potential.

Captain Rhea nodded approvingly. "This is not bad for a novice."

After the practice, they all retired back to their rooms for the day.

As the day wind down, Kelvin and Darius sat under the stars with their beasts resting nearby and a cup of tea in their hands.

"You handled yourself and your beast well today," Darius remarked.

Kelvin smiled. "Thanks but I still have a long way to go."

Darius looked thoughtful. "We all do have a long way to go but with dedication and the right guidance, you will master your bond with Xerion."

Kelvin nodded with determination in his eyes. "I won't let this power consume me. I will learn to control it."

Darius raised his mug in a toast. "To growth and mastery."

"To growth and mastery," Kelvin echoed, clinking his mug against Darius mug.
