Chapter 9 - The Supernaturals

"Fuck, I saw my life flash right before my eyes, what was that?"

With his Spirit Concealment skill shrouding him, he slipped away effortlessly, leaving the alluring huntress bewildered—convinced he had disappeared without a trace.

In truth, he merely masked his presence and spiritual power, harnessing his newfound speed and strength to weave through the buildings, putting distance between them both until she lost all trace of him.

[Like I said earlier, she exhibited characteristics of two races making it impossible for me to identify what she is exactly.]

"Is that right? What a pain, that's going to be a pain moving forward, what if she finds me again and I'm at school?"

[About that, I've managed to deduce how she found you to begin with, without your spirit concealment skill, your spirit power becomes unstable, wild and untamed. You still have much to learn about controlling your output of spiritual powers.]

"That much I understand, what I don't understand is why she tried to kill me. I'm aware that my bloodline abilities is what made her go all horny like that, but she tried to kill me, why?"

[I do not know the answer to that question, but one thing is for certain.]

"Yeah... With the level I'm at right now, our next encounter might most definitely be my last, there's only so much the level 1 spirit concealment skill can accomplish."

[It's almost two am in the morning, do you still want to complete more tasks in order to level up and grow stronger?]

"No, even if I use the spirit concealment skill to mask my presence while completing the quests, it'll be physically demanding. Not to mention I have school tomorrow, all I can do now is to focus on controlling the output of my spiritual power to prevent what happened tonight."

[It's a process that requires prescise focus on concentration, the slightest interruptions could cause your energy to be exposed momentarily, and given the proximity of the battle with the supernatural. The results might be compromising.]

"It doesn't matter." He spoke in a quick breath, twisting his body mid-motion as he caught the edge of the roof, then launched himself upward in one fluid, powerful arc.

"It was fun at first but now it's become all too real, whatever that thing was, it'll stop at nothing to kill me, and might even resort to other ways to do so. It doesn't matter the risks, what I need now is strength, strength to protect myself and my family."

[Eventually you'll grow stronger, till then you need to rest, you've activated the spirit concealment skill for more than ten minutes. Spiritual power is now down by 50%]

Mason tripped on the rooftop, as if he'd stepped on a loose stone. He fell hard, hitting the roof a few times before sliding to a stop right at the edge.

"What!?" He rose to his feet. "Why didn't you tell me!?"

[Your command was to activate the spirit concealment skill, the sensory range of the supernatural is wider than I originally anticipated. Even after traveling such a distance, her range continued stretching far and wide.]

"What are you trying to say?"

[To put it bluntly, her sensory range stretches over five thousand miles.]

"What's that?"

[That's the diameter of the whole city.]

Mason's eyes shot open in disbelief, almost as if he had seen a ghost right out of a horror film. Five thousand miles?

"Is that even possible for anyone..."

[Maybe for humans no, but for supernaturals such as yourself, it is a feat achievable by most.]

"Damn it... these supernaturals are insane that's for sure."

[The supernatural's sensory field has dissipated completely, it is now safe to return home.]

"Dissipated? You mean she turned off her sensory field? Why?"

[Her sensory field stretched across the whole city, being unable to sense your energy, the supernatural must have concluded you weren't in the city anymore.]

"Lucky me." He sighed, dropping to the ground with a sense of ease.

"How long do you think it'll be before she comes back looking for me?"

[Judging from the bloodlust she released earlier, I'd estimate it to not long from now, to solve a crime one must first return to the origins, she'll be back, more sooner than expected.]

"That means I have a limited time to get stronger, but it can't be tonight, not after everything that's happened. Like you said it's almost two in the-"

He went silent, his eyes wide with disbelief, as if a crucial memory had just resurfaced.

[What's wrong master?]

"Fuck!" He pressed down hard on the roof, propelling himself into the sky, cutting through the air like a speeding jet.

"No! No! No!" He zipped through the air, heading toward his home, leaving behind a supersonic shockwave that rippled through the atmosphere in his wake.

[What's wrong master?]

The system buzzed with heightened activity, detecting a sharp increase in Mason's heartbeat. Something was definitely wrong, and it wasn't about to let it go unnoticed.

His heartbeat had never surged to such levels, not even when he faced the supernatural woman who attacked him earlier. This was different—something far more intense was at play.

In a matter of seconds, he reached home, careful to rein in his strength and speed, ensuring not to disturb his mother's peaceful sleep.

He rushed into his room, made a break for his bed, and swiftly unplugged his phone from the charger.

He immediately turned it on, but it was too late. The screen flashed with an unread message.

[The Live has ended!]

[Last seen 5 minutes ago]

"No!!"

It was the most anticipated live event on the MyFans app. Now he remembered—his subscription had expired earlier than expected because he'd blown his entire budget subscribing to his favorite content creator, immediately after he saw a teaser about her live weeks ago.

Only to miss it completely—thanks to the untimely encounter with the supernatural woman who'd turned his night upside down.

"Now this is personal." He growled, his fists clenching the sheets as he knelt on the carpet, frustration boiling over as he was almost in tears.
