Chapter 17 - chapter sixteen: The edge of the stage.

The city outside roared with anticipation.

Minji stood by the tall hotel window, the glass cool beneath his fingertips as he looked down at the glowing wave of fans pouring into the arena. Each one of them held a part of his life, his music, his image, his mystery. But tonight, he was going to give them a piece they never expected. A truth he had guarded like candle light.

His heart pounded louder than the crowd.

Behind him, his phone buzzed. A message from his manager again.

"We're in position. Security is tight. Just keep your head high."

A knock on the door jolted him. His makeup artist and stylist walked in quietly, sensing his tension. They worked in silence, brushing, smoothing, prepping him.

When it was time, Minji walked through the hotel hallway like a man heading to war.

The backstage area pulsed with lights and radio chatter. He could hear the crowd chanting his name beyond the curtain. His group members clapped him on the back, offering words of encouragement. But they all knew tonight was different.

He checked his mic.

He closed his eyes as he remembered the first time he saw Hana quiet, gentle, smiling as she soothed a crying child behind the café. Not knowing who he was. Just seeing him.

The stage lights rose.

"Three minutes," a staff member called.

Minji nodded. He was trembling slightly, but not of fear but of purpose.

And somewhere deep in the arena, in the shadows of the crowd, he wondered if she was watching.

He stepped into the light.

The roar was deafening.

Minji stood beneath the blazing stage lights, his silhouette outlined in gold as the fans screamed his name. Lightsticks painted the entire arena in a sea of color , Banners, faces, tears of joy. It was everything he'd dreamed of when he was a trainee. And yet, for the first time, it felt like everything... wasn't enough.

He moved like a shadow on fire, his perfect choreography, voice steady, harmonizing with his bandmates. Each note carried weight tonight. Each lyric felt like it was pulling from something deeper. The crowd responded in waves, throwing back energy he clutched to hold himself together.

He gave them his best. His sharpest moves, his softest glances, his most charming smile. But behind it, his heart thudded with a different beat. One no one else could hear.

As the final track ended and the cheers climbed like thunder, Minji stood at the center of the stage, mic in hand.

His group members faded into the background, letting him step forward alone. His breath caught for half a second.

He scanned the audience.

Thousands.

Millions watching from home.

And somewhere… maybe she was watching too.

He inhaled.

Then he spoke.

"Tonight, I'm grateful to every single one of you. You've grown with me, stayed by me, believed in me."

The crowd cheered louder.

"And because of that... I want to be honest with you."

A sudden hush.

A silence that fell like a held breath.

" It was nice starting the journey with you guys the love, the chaos, pain , we all did it together but you all know that we only need that one person in life

I've spent most of my life behind stages and lights and cameras. And recently… I met someone who reminded me what it feels like to just be me. I can ordinary human off the stage"

He looked down briefly, then back up.

"I am in a relationship. I'm not going to say who, and I hope you understand why."

Gasps rippled like waves.

"But I wanted you to hear it from me. Not rumors. Not tabloids. From me."

His voice shook at the edges.

"This doesn't change how much I love performing. Or how much I love all of you. I just... wanted to stop hiding ."

"Thank you for giving me the courage."

He bowed low. The lights dimmed. And for a few seconds, the world stood still.

The moment his words echoed across the arena, the silence lingered on a little and breathless. Then came the sound that cracked through it like lightning: a chorus of gasps, of whispers, of disbelief turning into something louder, more chaotic, more real.

The stadium pulsed with life again.

Some fans screamed in shock. Others clutched their banners tightly to their chests, tears springing to their eyes. Cameras zoomed in on their expressions some stunned, some smiling, some frozen mid-cheer.

"Oppa… what did you just say?"

"Did he really say that?"

"Minji is… in a relationship?"

The arena became a wave of emotions love, confusion, heartbreak, pride. Some were crying. Some were chanting his name, louder than ever. Others held their phones, already typing, already recording, already sharing.

And outside that venue, the world erupted.
