Chapter 7 - 2.2

Some pleasantries were exchanged, and gifts were exchanged.

Truman gifted me luxury watch and other luxury USAian stuff, I gifted him pashmina shawl and other luxurious Indian clothes for him and his family, along with a luxurious sweet box and the chitrakatha I had drawn, Sambhar, a Naruto rip-off.

The company's name is Chi-Ka, so for those who will have difficulty in pronouncing Chitrakatha can just use that.

Main talks finally started.

"Mr President, I assure you India will be a good and profitable place for manufacturing for American companies.

We will take care of Indian currency adjustments by the end of this year, removing it from being pegged to UK's pound sterling. I believe we will be able to sort out the details after that, but how about preparing for cooperation by starting with garments manufacturing?

Because we are going to ban exports of raw materials for clothing soon."

"Oh. We are very interested in this cooperation, I assure you Mr Prime Minister.

Though, may I ask what will be India's plan after its currency is not pegged against British pound sterling?"

"Gold, of course."

"Mr Prime Minister, I think you should consider joining Bretton Woods agreement. USD is pegged against gold."

"We will consider it. Though I can't really take unilateral decision on that."

Joining Bretton Woods agreement, meaning pegging the currency against USD is not going to happen.

In my previous world, USA got rid of the gold standard to fund its war, and then threatened the countries who wanted to take back their gold.

By then, USD had already became the global currency reserve, and USA wielded it as a superpower. Printing as much money as it needed and exporting inflation to the whole world.

Moreover, its incredibly stupid to store one's own gold in someone else's house.

Still, instead of answering straight, its best to answer ambiguously to keep dragging this matter out.

It's not like I needed to tell him that INR will no longer be pegged to British pound, since its India's internal matter. But it will serve as a good carrot for USA to keep trying to have good relations with India, atleast until CCP comes in power in China, which will make a whole farm of carrots for USA to invest more in India.

Plus, sharing something that will soon be known to the whole world will show a good degree of trust towards USA and its president. A president's feelings matter a lot.

More talks happened, and we agreed on working on a trade deal so that India can manufacture clothing for USA and its brands.

"By the way, who do you think will win in the Chinese Civil War?"

"It's hard to say... But I think the communists."

"I think the nationalists will win. They have better weapons."

What a simplistic view. No wonder USA's performance in Vietnam and Afghanistan was so good.

Well, not that I am underestimating USA. I mean, though its war performance are bad, its coup performances are phenomenal.

"Well, anything can happen. Maybe nationalists will win? We can't really know the future."

We talked some more. Talked on weapons. US defence minister will soon come to India to demonstrate US weapons so that we can determine what we want to buy.

USA promised a food grain aid as well.

Surprisingly, he didn't try to take the conversation towards Pakistan.

The talks ended on a friendly note.
