~ With Shisui ~
The world slowed down further through the crimson lens of his Sharingan. Shisui could see everything now—the subtle tensing of the purple-haired woman's muscles before she moved, the minute fluctuations in the Ethernano particles surrounding her hands as she prepared her magic, even the almost imperceptible nod she gave her pink-haired companion.
He moved first, vanishing from sight with an increased speed. The Body Flicker technique, already formidable, became something else entirely when combined with the ocular powers of the Sharingan. He appeared at the purple-haired woman's left flank, kunai drawn for a disabling strike to her shoulder.
But once again, almost impossibly, she reacted despite his increase of speed. Not with the same perfect timing as before, but with enough awareness to partially evade. The kunai sliced through the sleeve of her clothing rather than flesh.
Her counter was immediate—a sweeping gesture that brought with it a ripple in the very fabric of space around her. Crystalline orbs materialized from nowhere, a dozen of them circling her like satellites before launching toward Shisui.
He leapt backward, his senses noticing something peculiar about the energy they carried. His Sharingan tracked them, allowing him to weave between their trajectories.
'It's best that I avoid getting struck by one of those things for now,' he thought, hands already forming seals.
Fire Style: Great Fireball
Chakra transformed into elemental energy within his lungs, emerging as a massive sphere of roaring flame that engulfed half the clearing. The technique, a staple of the Uchiha clan, carried enough power to incinerate multiple opponents simultaneously.
Yet, the purple-haired woman did not attempt to dodge. Instead, she extended one hand, a magic circle briefly forming before her palm. What followed surprised Shisui.
The fireball did not dissipate—it slowed abruptly, as if hitting an unseen wall of resistance, its momentum dragged down like it was pushing through invisible syrup before it reversed direction entirely.
Shisui darted sideways, avoiding his own redirected attack, his mind racing to process what he was witnessing. 'What just happened?'
As the flames dissipated, Shisui noted something crucial about the interaction between his chakra and the ambient Ethernano. The chakra imbued fire from his technique had seemed to synchronize with the Ethernano particles in the air.
It reaffirmed something that he had already discovered during his training—while chakra and Ethernano were both different energy systems, they both however, occupied the same physical space and interacted according to consistent principles.
However, he was not given any time to dwell on the observation. The pink-haired woman had already extended her hand, and five bracelet-like bands of magenta energy had appeared on her wrist. Simultaneously, similar bands manifested on her companion's wrist. Some kind of linking magic, Shisui realized, watching as the older woman's movements suddenly became more fluid.
He reached for his pouch, extracting three shuriken and launching them in a single motion. The purple-haired woman dodged easily—exactly as he had anticipated. The throwing stars embedded themselves in a tree trunk behind her, apparently missing their mark.
But Shisui was already moving, flickering to a position twenty degrees offset from his initial location. Three more shuriken left his fingers, these aimed not at either woman but at the previously thrown weapons. The metallic clang of collision echoed through the clearing as the new projectiles struck the embedded ones, dislodging them, before it was sent ricocheting toward the purple-haired woman from an angle that she was not defending.
Her eyes widened in genuine surprise. One shuriken grazed her cheek, drawing a thin line of blood before embedding itself in the ground behind her. The other she had managed to deflect with a hasty gesture that created a momentary distortion in the air.
'A shield of some kind'. He thought, though he also noted that it had costed her more magical energy than her previous defences.
"Clever," she acknowledged, touching her cheek briefly. "Most mages do not think of attacking in such round-about manner. They rely too heavily on direct magical attacks."
Shisui did not respond verbally, but his mind registered the information. The woman's fighting style suggested formal training, but her observation confirmed that she was accustomed to battling magic-users who followed predictable patterns.
His shinobi tactics—emphasizing misdirection and physical combat alongside ninjutsu—represented something outside her normal experience.
However, the advantage was mutual. Her magic operated on principles that he was still deciphering, making her less predictable than the opponents from his world would be.
The purple-haired woman extended both arms, and the air around her warped visibly. A single orb began to form above her. As she pointed a finger towards Shisui, the orb began to move with it.
In response, he leapt upward, chakra-enhanced muscles carrying him twenty feet into the air, above the attack's range. From this vantage point, he formed new hand seals.
Fire Style: Phoenix Flower!
Multiple smaller fireballs burst from his lips, each following an independent trajectory toward the women below. Unlike the Great Fireball's overwhelming power, this technique emphasized precision and coverage.
The purple-haired woman made a circular gesture, and a dome of shimmering energy formed around herself and her companion. The fireballs crashed into it and instead of exploding on impact, they seem to fragment into slower, less cohesive flames that crawled across the barrier's surface before dissipating entirely.
'What-' Once again, Shisui noted the peculiarity of her abilities as it affected his own attack.
She had somehow slowed the natural progression of his attack, causing the combustion reaction to lose cohesion.
Landing lightly on a tree branch, he maintained the high ground. The pink-haired woman had not directly attacked yet, but the magical link she had established was clearly enhancing her companion's capabilities. The bands on their wrists pulsed in sync when the purple-haired woman employed her more powerful techniques, suggesting some form of power-sharing or reinforcement.
Maguilty Sense!
The pink-haired woman called out, extending her arms. The bands on her wrist glowed brightly, and suddenly golden blades of energy manifest around her, hovering in the air.
Shisui's Sharingan tracked them with perfect clarity as they launched toward him. These weren't physical projectiles—they were more like concentrated emotional energy given form. He twisted through the air, evading most, but allowed one to pass through his shoulder to test a theory. There was no physical damage, but a shock of sympathetic pain coursed through him.
'Sensory link magic'. He realized. 'The blade did not harm my body, but rather it created a direct sensory connection. Fascinating, but dangerous.'
Shisui flickered through a rapid series of positions, moving so quickly he appeared to be in multiple places at once. This was the same technique that he had used against the being that had sent him to Earthland.
The purple-haired woman's eyes narrowed as she tried to follow him, but even her enhanced perception struggled slightly.
Parallel Worlds!
Suddenly multiple translucent crystalline spheres appeared, each containing what appeared to be an alternate version of the attack she was about to launch.
Shisui understood immediately—she was viewing multiple possible attack patterns simultaneously, before likely selecting the most effective one to manifest in reality. It was similar in concept to how his Sharingan predicted movements, but approached from an entirely different angle with additional steps.
As the spheres consolidated into a single attack pattern, a barrage of crystalline projectiles converged on Shisui's position.
Flash Forward!
Immediately, Shisui formed hand seals with blinding speed.
Fire Style: Dragon Flame Bomb!
A massive stream of concentrated flame erupted from his mouth, expanding into the shape of a dragon's head as it collided with the incoming crystals. The heat was so intense that the air itself seemed to waver and distort.
The crystals did not melt but instead they exploded mid-air along with his own attack. The battlefield momentarily illuminated with the orange glow of flames, shadows dancing across the faces of the combatants.
Through his Sharingan, Shisui could see how his chakra interacted with the Ethernano-based attack. The Ethernano-based attack did not display any change despite coming into contact with his Chakra-based attack.
This gave rise to another hypothesis—while his chakra attacks and their ethernano magic were fundamentally different energy systems, the principles governing their interaction were fairly straightforward. Neither cancelled the other out automatically. It came down to power output, technique refinement, and tactical application—just as battles between shinobi in his world did.
Moreover, this was consistent with the confirmed observation he made earlier regarding his Chakra's interaction with the ambient Ethernano. 'This was most likely an obvious conclusion, but it's always better to question everything until you can confirm it.'
Shisui had to stop his train of thoughts when he noticed that the pink-haired woman established another link, this one causing a red band to appear on both her wrist and the older woman's.
Sensory Link, enhance!
Immediately, the purple-haired woman's movements became even more refined, more efficient. She extended her hand, and five magic circles appeared in a pentagonal formation around Shisui.
Ice Make: Rosen Corone!
Massive tendrils of ice erupted from each circle, thorned like rose stems, converging on him from all directions. Shisui recognized the technique was no longer based on an unknown factor to him anymore. Instead, it was a more straightforward magic type: Ice Make magic.
'It seems that some mages are able to use more than just one type of magic.'
His hands went through multiple seals.
Fire Style: Flame Bullet!
He expelled a massive oil-infused fireball that exploded on contact with the approaching ice, creating a superheated steam cloud that obscured the entire battlefield. The rapid temperature change caused the remaining ice structures to crack and shatter.
Through the steam, Shisui flickered to a new position, extracting a fuma shuriken from his back pouch. With a flick of his wrist, the weapon unfolded to its full size, four massive blades extending outward. He charged it with a thin layer of chakra—not enough to be visible, but sufficient enough to maintain his connection to the weapon after release.
The oversized shuriken cut through the lingering steam, aimed not directly at either woman but at the space between them. As anticipated, both dodge in opposite directions—exactly what Shisui had wanted. His fingers twitched, the invisible chakra thread connecting him to the weapon responding to his command. The shuriken abruptly changed course mid-flight, curving around to target the purple-haired woman from behind.
Once again, she sensed it somehow and pivoted, one hand raised defensively.
Like the great fireball he had used earlier, the shuriken's momentum slowed before it reversed, sending it flying back toward Shisui at even greater speed. He caught it deftly, the weapon's spin halting instantly in his grip.
The exchange had yielded multiple valuable information about how their respective power systems functioned.
Ethernano, unlike chakra, existed independently of its wielder, saturating the environment and getting absorbed by the mages rather than being generated internally. This gave mages the advantage of a theoretically unlimited power source, provided that they could draw from the environment efficiently.
Chakra, however, offered versatility that Ethernano-based magic seemed to lack. Each of the women appeared to specialize in a particular magical discipline, while Shisui could shift between multiple techniques and approaches without limitation beyond his own personal reserves.
The steam had finally cleared, revealing the two women standing side by side once again. The purple-haired woman was showing signs of exertion now—a slight sheen of perspiration on her brow, with slightly labored breathing.
The pink-haired woman looked more affected, the magical links she had been maintaining had clearly drained much of her reserves faster than she had anticipated.
'They're slowing down slightly'. Shisui realized.
While he was feeling a minimal exertion as well, his lifetime of chakra conditioning and his ANBU training had given him better stamina for prolonged combat.
Despite their growing fatigue, he decided to test them further, hands already forming the seals for his next technique. This battle was proving to be exactly what he had been seeking—a true challenge to understand how his abilities translated to this world of magic.
