Chapter 41 - The Name Beneath the Chalice

After the orientation ended, Froy went for a walk with Aryvael to explore the magnificent institution of Arcanthia. But before anything else, the two young students went to pick up their school equipment—which, fortunately, was free. Students here are expected to complete tasks and earn Dp, the official currency of the academy, making it a win-win system.

When they arrived at the distribution counter, the only thing the staff handed them was a magical wristband. The staff explained:

"This magic wristband can display a full map of the academy. It allows you to communicate with others—either by messaging or through voice and video calls. You can also use it to purchase items by spending Dp. Items will either be teleported directly to your dorm or, if too large, stored within the wristband itself. Yes, as you've probably heard, the wristband also acts as an inventory. Your uniforms and starter gear are already inside. This doesn't include the special bag given to those who passed the final trial—that's a bonus item."

Froy and Aryvael accepted their wristbands with wide eyes. It was likely only in Arcanthia that magical technology and natural harmony coexisted so beautifully. Truly, this place was astonishing.

But not everything was perfect.

While the academy did not divide students by social class, it certainly did by academic class: Special Class, Elite Class, and Ordinary Class.

Froy and Aryvael were treated very differently.

Aryvael, being in the Elite Class, received many privileges—free meals throughout her studies, unlimited buffet access, superior gear, and access to the upper levels of Arcanthia's massive library, where advanced magic, strategy, and skill books were kept. She even received a weekly allowance of 5,000 Dp.

After picking up their gear, Froy personally walked Aryvael to her dorm—even though teleportation was an option. Once he saw her off, he used a warp point to return to his own dorm.

After returning to his dorm, Froy tossed himself onto the bed—soft, plush, and far more comfortable than anything he had expected. He sighed with relief, then decided to try something.

"Open," he said.

To his surprise, it worked.

The magical wristband responded immediately, projecting a glowing interface in front of his face like a floating hologram. Multiple options appeared—navigation, contacts, and most importantly, the store.

He tapped the store icon.

Rows upon rows of items appeared: potions, materials, scrolls, tools, enchanted gear… all available for purchase using Dp.

Remaining balance: 312,000 Dp.

He had earned the extra 90,000 through defeating others and another extra from slaying magical beasts during the final trial. It was a fortune for a new student.

As he scrolled through the items, something caught his eye.

A glowing gem—brilliant and warm.

Upgrade Gem.

Price: 150,000 Dp.

Expensive. Very expensive.

Its description read:"Enhances the base quality of one ability or trait by one level. Limited to three purchases per student."

Froy tilted his head. "Seems like there's a purchase limit for Ordinary Class students… but whatever."

He tapped the purchase button.

A few seconds passed.

"Where is it supposed to arrive? Outside the door?" Froy muttered.

Suddenly—a flash of soft light bloomed in front of him.

There it was.

The Upgrade Gem hovered in midair, about the size of his palm, glowing gently with a warm, rose-gold hue.

As he reached out to grab it…

A voice echoed in his mind.

Cold. Ancient. Familiar.

"Use the chalice."

Sethvyr.

In that moment, Calix Nihilum—the Void Chalice—materialized from Froy's body, summoned by will alone.

The air in the room turned still.

And Froy smiled faintly.

Froy gripped the chalice tightly in one hand, his other hand holding the shimmering Upgrade Gem. Without hesitation, he brought the gem over the mouth of the chalice and let it drop.

The moment it touched the dark interior of Calix Nihilum, the gem began to dissolve—its radiant light breaking down into glowing liquid. It melted completely, becoming a swirling, opalescent substance that filled the chalice almost to the brim.

Froy raised it slowly.

Without fear, without a word—he drank.

The liquid passed his lips smoothly, like warm silk.

No pain.No flash of light. No immediate change.

He set the chalice down and narrowed his eyes.

"...Nothing?"

But then he remembered the interface.

He raised his wrist.

The magical wristband shimmered and brought up his status window.

His eyes scanned the text—

And there it was.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Froy stared at the floating status screen.

It was real.

His abilities had truly increased.

Even without Sethvyr's help, even without invoking a miracle… this was his own progress. The Upgrade Gem had worked.

He clenched his fist slightly, feeling a faint pulse of energy running through him. It wasn't much—not enough to make him powerful. But it was proof.

Proof that he could grow.

Proof that he wasn't entirely dependent on an Outer God.

Yet, even as satisfaction flickered in his chest, another thought crept into his mind.

The Talent.

That hidden, sleeping curse of a power.

Sixth Sense Manipulation.

Its description remained unchanged, aside from the slight increase in rank—from Lowest to Low. But the core restriction still loomed like a locked door in the back of his mind:

Flaw: Nullified if true name is known.

Froy exhaled slowly, brows furrowing.

True name…?

What did it mean? Was it just his full legal name?

No—it couldn't be that simple.

If it were, the power would've been nullified the moment he enrolled.

No, this was something deeper. Something older. Perhaps a name he never knew he had.

"If I don't even know my own true name… then I'll never be able to awaken this power," he muttered under his breath.

The truth stung.

It wasn't just that he couldn't use the full potential of his talent—it was that it was hidden behind a mystery he couldn't solve alone.

Sethvyr hadn't given him answers.

And if the Outer God was testing him… then this was part of that test.

Froy's eyes narrowed as he closed the status window. The glowing holographic display faded, absorbed back into the magic bracelet.

He lay back on the bed, arms crossed behind his head, staring at the wooden ceiling of his dorm room.

"Then I'll find it. Whatever it takes."

A name, a secret, a power buried beneath his own identity.

He wasn't just fighting for strength anymore.

He was fighting to know who he truly was.

That night, after his body sank into the warmth of the dorm bed, Froy dreamed—as he always did.

But this time, Sethvyr did not come.

Instead, he found himself in darkness. No stars. No sound. No sky.Only one thing existed in this void:

The Calix Nihilum—his sacred chalice.

It floated a few steps ahead, bathed in a faint, ghostly glow. The ground beneath his feet shimmered like still water, yet rippled with each step he took.Footsteps echoed—soft, lonely slaps on mirrored liquid.

Froy walked toward the chalice slowly.

Drawn.

Entranced.

Each step seemed heavier than the last, as if the weight of unseen memories clung to his limbs.

And then—

A voice.

Not spoken aloud.

But everywhere.

A whisper in every direction, yet nowhere at all.

"We have met again."

Froy paused.

The voice wasn't Sethvyr's.

It was colder. Closer.

Familiar.

Then it spoke again, softly.

"Alzareth…"

Froy's brow furrowed. "...Who?"

He stepped forward again, now only inches from the chalice.

Inside, glowing in blood-red light, a single name pulsed within the dark liquid like a prophecy:

ALZARETH

Froy's breath caught in his throat.

Somehow…

He knew.

This name wasn't just a name.

It was his.

He spoke aloud, unsure if he was asking the void, the chalice, or the voice itself.

"Who are you?"

A pause.

Then the voice replied.

Low. Calm. Unyielding.

"You haven't noticed?"

"I thought you were smarter."

"I am… you."

Everything went still.

Then—

Light shattered across the dream like broken glass.

And Froy awoke.

Eyes wide.

Breathing quiet.

The morning sun peeked in through the dorm window, casting soft gold over the floor.

Today was the first day of class at the Grand Academy of Arcanthia.

Suddenly, his magic wristband flickered—and a strange message appeared.

[ERROR]

The status window glitched, and the text began to distort.

[Hidden Talent] Sixth Sense Manipulation → [The Messiah of the End (Five Sense Manipulation)]

But in Froy's mind…

Only one name remained.

Alzareth.
