Chapter 49 - Chapter 46 Setting the wedding day

Benjamin had barely slept a wink the entire night. His mind had been clouded with worry and confusion after Megyn locked her phone on him.

It reminded him too vividly of that week he had spent in London, when Megyn had done the same thing. The anxiety then had crept slowly but surely into his heart like a shadow. That experience had made it clear to him—Megyn hadn't been sure of what was blossoming between them. She had been afraid.

But now, even after agreeing to be his fiancée, it seemed those fears hadn't completely vanished. What exactly was she still running from?

At six in the morning, he could no longer take it. He jumped out of bed and drove straight to Megyn's hostel, his mind set on seeing her. Rules or no rules, he was going to make sure she was alright—even if it meant standing at her door all morning, or breaking it down.

Meanwhile, Cindy was also on her way to Megyn's room, equally concerned. She had spent the night turning over thoughts in her head, unsettled by Megyn's sudden change in behaviour.

If Megyn didn't open the door, she had already decided to use the spare key she had tucked safely in her jacket pocket.

To her surprise, she found Benjamin already at the door, pacing like a storm was brewing inside him.

"You too?" she asked with a raised brow.

Benjamin nodded grimly. "She's not answering."

Together, they knocked—again and again. No answer.

Benjamin's anxiety surged. His thoughts spiraled into worst-case scenarios. What if something had happened to Megyn? He was just about to kick the door open when Cindy pulled out the spare key and dangled it before his face.

"Don't even think about breaking it," she said calmly.

Relieved but still tense, Benjamin grabbed the key and opened the door swiftly. What greeted him inside left him more distressed than before.

The room was eerily quiet. Her clothes were untouched, folded neatly. It was a sign that she hadn't left for good. Yet, she was nowhere in sight.

A lump formed in Benjamin's throat. The scene reminded him too much of the the day Daisy had locked Megyn in the bathroom and threw away the keys —another painful memory he wasn't ready to relive.

He rushed to the bathroom and flung the door open. Empty.

Still overwhelmed, he slumped onto Megyn's bed. Cindy, equally worried but more composed, returned to her own room to wait.

Just as Benjamin was about to drift into an exhausted daze, his phone buzzed. It was Megyn.

"Good morning, my love!" she said, cheerful and completely unaware of the torment she had put him through.

Benjamin sat up, startled by her tone. He was trying to make sense of it when the door creaked open, and Megyn stepped inside.

Her smile was genuine and bright. She looked excited—glowing, even.

Benjamin blinked, confused. Hadn't she just spent the last twelve hours ignoring him?

Without a word, Megyn walked over and knelt beside him. She embraced him tightly and kissed him with an intensity that caught him completely off guard. Her hands reached for the buttons of his cotton shirt, a bold move she had never made before.

"Mmm... This is new, Princess," Benjamin said softly, caught between surprise and concern.

Megyn didn't pause.

"I want us to go all the way, my love," she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. "I want to be yours forever."

Benjamin froze. This was not like her—not the Megyn he knew, who had been raised with strong values in a religious environment. He couldn't help but laugh, though gently, not mockingly.

"Princess, you'll have to work really hard to get there," he said between amused chuckles.

Megyn stepped back slightly, standing with her hands on her hips, clearly confused and maybe a little hurt.

"What do you mean, Benj?" she asked, her voice soft. "I thought you've always wanted this."

He reached for her hand and gently pulled her to sit next to him.

"Come here, Gazelle," he said, still smiling but now serious. "You know I love you, right?"

Megyn nodded, leaning closer to him. "I love everything about you," he continued. "We've built this relationship over a year—full of laughter, long walks, dreams, deep talks, and everything in between. And we've grown stronger without needing... this. And I want our first time to be something sacred. Something we look back on without regret."

He took a deep breath and added, "I want it to be on our wedding night."

Megyn's heart softened. Her eyes glistened with affection and relief.

"Thank you, my love," she whispered. "Thank you for being patient with me... for respecting me. I love you. I can't imagine life without you."

Benjamin held her close, smiling as she rested her head on his chest.

"I want you by my side every day and night like this," he said. "And that means we need to set a wedding date—before your graduation."

Megyn perked up. Her eyes sparkled with mischief.

"Let's do it today," she said, half-laughing. "Let's go to the Attorney General's office right now."

Benjamin raised an eyebrow, amused by her playfulness.

"Tempting," he said with a grin. "But how about this—we set our wedding date two months from now."

Megyn's eyes lit up.

"That would be... June fifteenth!"

"Perfect," Benjamin said. "It's set. I can't wait to have you as my wife."

"Me too, I can't wait to have you as my husband," Megyn replied, leaning in for another kiss.

Then Benjamin pulled back slightly. "But where did you go, Princess? I was so worried."

Megyn's face softened.

"I went to see the church pastor," she explained. "I needed guidance. And no—he didn't tell me to seduce you. He advised marriage."

Benjamin chuckled, shaking his head. "Wise man."

Before they left for breakfast, Benjamin reminded Megyn to check on Cindy.

She walked down the corridor and found Cindy in the middle of packing. It was going to be their last weekend on campus, and the room was already looking half-empty.

Megyn approached her quietly.

"Cindy... I'm sorry about last night," she said. "And this morning. I should have told you where I was going."

Cindy glanced over her shoulder and laughed softly.

"Megyn Maringo—I know you too well," she said with a smirk. "Which part of your relationship with Benjamin wasn't clear that you needed divine clarity?"

Megyn smiled shyly. She had agreed that Cindy knew her very well.

"The fear of marriage," she said honestly. "But I'm okay now."

Cindy nodded knowingly. "You're going to be just fine."

Megyn left Cindy to her packing, after they agreed they'll have a double date that evening.

Although she also needed to start packing, she wouldn't trade anything with her Benjamin time.
