Chapter 1 - Chp 1. Realization

A familiar yet unfamiliar voice calls out. "Wake…"

I flinch as something unexpected hits my arm. Not the rough grip of a soldier nor is it the clawed hands of an annoyed demon. Something warm and soft too, almost like a… No, it can't be. Those weak mortals can't be in a place like this, let alone dare to touch me, Demon lord Haruto.

She calls out again "I said wake up! You can't sleep in all day just because it's summer break! You have to at least eat dinner. Come on, if you don't I'll have to drag you over myself!" She says in a soft, but annoyed tone. I open my eyes to see her frustrated yet caring black eyes. She also seems to wear a strange apron with the words "Worlds best mom".

"What…?" I say in a soft, timid and shaky voice, completely different to my loud and commanding voice. She sighs and pulls me to the dining table with two more people waiting for me.

"He finally woke up? I thought he was going to sleep for the rest of his life." A girl says.

"What? He's finally awake? I can finally start eating!" Another girl says, but she was different, this one was tiny, cute, and loud.

I sit down, confused about what is going on. Blink and rub my eyes to see better.

I look at my hands, expecting to see rough hands with scratches from my intense training. But instead, I see a small and soft hand.

I quietly mutter any excuse I could think of to go to the bathroom which I barely manage to find. I look at the mirror to see a timid looking boy that definitely wasn't me. After thinking back a lot, I concluded that I must have been banished by that traitor Selene. I look back and remember what was outside of this bathroom. A tiny, cluttered kitchen, chairs scraped from years of careless use, a warm glow spilling from the hanging lamp above. The scent of freshly cooked food lingered in the air, completely foreign to me—the Demon Lord who feasted only on ceremonial meals of status, never comfort. The soft hum of conversation continued. Laughter. A life without battle, without strategy.

It was… calming.

No! What am I saying?! I have to get back! No matter the cost!
