Chapter 5 - Chapter 5- Competition Mission

Demonic Realm — The Skies Above Royal City

In a flash of black light, Alex reappeared above the realm he now ruled.

His crimson robes billowed in the void-like skies, and his voice, sharp and powerful, rolled like thunder across the city below.

"I have killed the intruder. The threat is gone. Return to your lives—without fear."

For a moment, there was silence.

Then, a wave of cheers rippled through the streets. Panic turned to celebration. From the shops to the shrines, from the noble estates to the slums, the people of the Demonic Realm began to stir once more.

Their murmurs floated up to him like whispers on the wind.

"He's strong… truly strong."

"Our new Demon King is nothing like the last one."

"Yes. That one was cruel. Slaughtered his own people on a whim."

"But this one… this one protects us."

Alex hovered silently above them, his sharp gaze sweeping across the kingdom.

Your previous demon king… died at the hands of righteous cultivators. Weak. Arrogant. Unfit to rule.

He turned without a word and descended, gliding back to the Demon Palace like a shadow on wings.

The great gate opened with a hiss of ancient magic. The hall beyond stood quiet and empty, its red torches flickering along the massive obsidian walls.

Alex walked alone down the long corridor, his footsteps echoing in the silence.

He ascended the nine bloodstained stairs and sat upon the bone-carved throne. His fingers drummed against the armrest.

"System," he called out, his voice low but commanding.

A faint chime echoed in his mind.

Ding!

System Interface Activated.

"Show me the store."

Instantly, a shimmering crimson screen appeared before him, hanging in the air.

One by one, the items revealed themselves.

---

[Demonic Growing Pill]

A glowing red pill hovered in the display, wrapped in swirling demonic aura.

Effect: Greatly enhances cultivation speed for three hours.

Cost: 300 Demon Points

[Demon Devouring Art]

A dark scroll bound in a thin red rope appeared next. Its aura pulsed faintly, like something alive inside it.

Effect: A forbidden cultivation technique that allows the user to absorb the life essence of others and convert it into power.

Cost: 500 Demon Points

The third item, and those beyond it, appeared only as shadowy icons—each with a question mark mask symbol and a single word beneath:

Locked.

Alex leaned back on the throne, eyes narrowing as he read the descriptions.

"So… I only have 100 points," he muttered.

His gaze shifted to the glowing red pill. It looked tempting—but it was beyond his reach.

Then, to the forbidden scroll. Demon Devouring Art. Just the name of it stirred something deep in his soul.

A technique to consume others… that sounds like my kind of power.

He smiled faintly and closed the store screen.

"Not yet," he said. "Soon."

The hall grew quiet again.

As the last echoes of silence settled in the grand chamber, a sudden chime shattered the stillness.

Ding!

A system window materialized before Alex, glowing with deep crimson runes. The text that followed stirred something dark and exhilarating within him.

---

Alex leaned forward, elbows resting on the armrests of his throne, a faint smirk creeping onto his face.

"So… they want me to walk among the righteous? Pretend to be one of them… and defeat them at their own game?"

He stood, pacing slowly down the stairs of his throne with measured grace.

Infiltrating a righteous sect gathering…

Using a false name, a hidden aura…

Winning in their own competition… while they applaud me, clueless of the truth?

He chuckled softly, the idea exhilarating.

This mission is more than a challenge. It's a chance to humiliate them from within.
