Chapter 36 - Huo Yuhao's Arrogance

On the other side, Dong Xinyi's situation wasn't looking good. Nanmen Yun'er's speed was like a phantom storm—Dong Xinyi could barely touch her shadow, let alone land a solid hit. All she could manage was a barely adequate defense.

When Nanmen Yun'er once again lunged at Dong Xinyi, the latter, unusually, switched tactics. Dong Xinyi raised the staff in her hand high—it was her martial soul, the Purple Thunder Staff. On the surface, the Purple Thunder Staff was pitch black like ink, smooth and glossy, structured in a spiral shape. At its top, a gem the size of a fist was embedded like a jewel. The gem wasn't bright—it was shrouded in gray mist, with arcs of electricity and dark clouds flickering over it from time to time.

"Thunder Prison."

The Purple Thunder Staff rose high as dense purple-black lightning currents coiled and danced around the gray gem. The currents didn't just scatter randomly; instead, after separating from the staff, they formed individual lightning spheres around her. With more lightning constantly pouring in, the number and size of the spheres steadily increased.

In just a few seconds, over thirty lightning orbs had formed. Right then, Nanmen Yun'er was nearly upon her.

"Been waiting for you."Dong Xinyi whispered inwardly. In the next instant, she slammed the Purple Thunder Staff downward. The densely packed lightning orbs hailed down on Nanmen Yun'er like ice pellets, covering an area of seven to eight meters around her.

"Jadeblade."Nanmen Yun'er swiftly dodged and maneuvered. She managed to evade most of the lightning orbs, but the sheer number was overwhelming—some were impossible to dodge completely. At that moment, Nanmen Yun'er activated her first soul skill, Jadeblade. As the first yellow soul ring on her body flickered, green light condensed in her hands, forming two emerald light blades. She swung both hands repeatedly, slicing apart the lightning orbs she couldn't dodge.

But that wasn't the end of it. When the lightning orbs shattered and dispersed, many scattered sparks still landed on Nanmen Yun'er, causing secondary damage.

Despite this, Dong Xinyi was still at a disadvantage. Not only was the lightning's damage limited, but Thunder Prison was her second soul skill—it consumed more soul power than Nanmen Yun'er's first skill. On top of that, her cultivation level was slightly inferior, putting her at an even greater disadvantage.

Huo Yuhao had also been watching Dong Xinyi's battle. Their last opponents were such pushovers that Xiao Xiao had cleaned them up solo. This was his first time seeing Dong Xinyi in action. Compared to Xiao Xiao, Bebe, and others who had become part of the Shrek Seven Devils, Dong Xinyi's talent was clearly far behind—no wonder she remained nameless in the original story.

"Three-Life Soul-Suppressing Cauldron—Cauldron Shock." Faced with Wu Feng's aggressive attacks, even Xiao Xiao lost her temper. What, did this tigress look like a kitten just because she hadn't bared her fangs yet?

But Wu Feng didn't care. She attacked relentlessly. When she collided with the massive cauldron again, her expression suddenly changed. Just from that contact, she felt a fierce shockwave surge through her arm. It wasn't just a simple vibration—there was something strange mixed in, making her momentarily dizzy.

Just then, two beams of colored light fell onto Wu Feng and Nanmen Yun'er. It was Ning Tian unleashing her power. Thanks to her spiritual defense-type soul tool, Huo Yuhao couldn't use the same trick again. Taking advantage of this precious moment, Ning Tian poured her strength into boosting her teammates with support soul skills.

"Thunder Smite."

Dong Xinyi's face hardened. Following up Thunder Prison with another attack—this one, Thunder Smite, was her first soul skill. Unlike the area-of-effect nature of Thunder Prison, Thunder Smite targeted a single enemy and even had tracking ability.

At this point, most of Thunder Prison's power had already dissipated. Soul skills had duration limits, and Dong Xinyi had also cut off the power feed to the lightning, making Thunder Prison run out of juice.

Nanmen Yun'er sliced through the last lightning orb. The green light blades on her arms were nearly transparent—a sign the soul skill was about to expire. In the next second, the green light vanished completely. But Nanmen Yun'er didn't mind. There were barely any lightning orbs left. The few that remained, she easily dodged, appearing quite calm and composed.

With no damn lightning balls blocking her way, and with the boost from the Seven Treasures Glazed Tile Pagoda, Nanmen Yun'er had far fewer concerns and lunged toward Dong Xinyi. Unlike Wu Feng, who charged in blindly, Nanmen Yun'er analyzed the situation. Honestly, after seeing the opposing lineup, she'd nearly given up. With Huo Yuhao's second soul ring reaching a thousand years, his talent was terrifying. He might even be able to fight a three-ring Soul Elder in short bursts. While their team captain was indeed a real Soul Elder, she was a support-type and not comparable to a power-type. Even if she could enhance the team, it wasn't enough to make any of them a match for Huo Yuhao. Let's not forget, it was three versus one.

What Nanmen Yun'er never expected was that Huo Yuhao was ridiculously arrogant—he actually used this career-defining match as a warm-up for his teammates. Utter clownery.

But watching the current situation made her understand: Huo Yuhao had earned the right to be arrogant. Because Xiao Xiao, the girl with lower cultivation than Nanmen Yun'er, was still suppressing Wu Feng, even after Ning Tian had boosted her. Before the boost, it was a one-sided beating.

She had to end this quickly. Nanmen Yun'er glanced at Dong Xinyi. They were probably going to lose this match. But even so, they had to fight to the end. Otherwise, it would betray their captain's efforts.

Suddenly, Nanmen Yun'er felt the sky darken. Looking up, she saw a small dark cloud floating right above her. It wasn't large—just over ten meters in diameter—and was hovering only a dozen meters above the ground.

Nanmen Yun'er knew this wasn't natural. She pressed on toward Dong Xinyi. To be fair, Dong Xinyi's attacks weren't especially powerful, but they were relentless. Nanmen Yun'er could already feel slight numbness.

Just as Nanmen Yun'er closed in on Dong Xinyi, the dark cloud above her seemed to finish its charge. Suddenly, a bolt of purple-black lightning as thick as two fingers came crashing down, targeting Nanmen Yun'er directly.

Below, Nanmen Yun'er frowned slightly as she sensed this. The attack was formidable—not unmanageable, but certainly not something she needed to take head-on. If you can dodge without harm, why not? Hurt your enemy a thousand times, but never at your own expense.

The lightning snake danced, just about to strike Nanmen Yun'er. In the next instant, she launched herself sideways, appearing several meters away in a blink—her speed truly defied belief. She didn't stop, rapidly closing in on Dong Xinyi. Just then, she sensed something. Turning her head, she realized the lightning was chasing her. That really caught Nanmen Yun'er off guard. She dodged again and again, but the damn lightning stuck to her like a plaster.

"This can't go on. The lightning's too fast. If I rely solely on speed, it'll catch up and possibly injure me. The soul power I'm burning right now is almost equal to using my second soul skill."Nanmen Yun'er thought as she maintained her speed using soul power. Because of this, Dong Xinyi finally got a breather. Earlier, she'd been forced into a miserable state—after all, her offensive techniques were all energy-based, like a mage. Once someone got up close, she was already halfway to losing. In this regard, she was far inferior to Liang Jingjing.

"Cauldron Quake."
