Henrick's face stiffens as Selene cackles crazily, bending over at the waist as she laughs with tears streaming from her eyes. "What does it matter anyway? I didn't care about anyone else in that camp!" she shouts, the ground shaking as magical energy coats her body. Father David gasps at her admission and clutches his cross, even as his face contorts in fury.
The soldier meanwhile stares blankly as he places a hand over the pocket that holds the potato chips bag. "What's with you anyway? You haven't had shoes on this whole time, and you're always scowling." Selene starts as she circles Henrick, a desperate gleam in her eyes. "I wonder what happened to that little runt, Elly? I bet she made pretty good food for those fucking monsters!!!" she continues in a manic scream as she strikes at his jaw.
The blow lands, but does nothing more than turns Henrick's face to the side. Selene spits on the ground and punches his ribs, smiling as she hears the cracking of bone. Her smile falls, however, as she cradles her fist and staggers back at the intense pain.
Without warning, Henrick lunges forward and lands a brutal headbutt, sending Selene flying through the weakened wall. She rolls onto the street as blood flows down her broken nose, making her breaths shallow and weak. "Is that all you've g-aahhhh!!" she wheezes, but is interrupted as a brick slams into her forehead.
A knee follows almost immediately as Henrick lands on top of Selene with all of his weight, shattering her orbital bone with a meaty CRUNCH. He's unable to continue the beating, however, as Selene stabs into his side with a magical blade and pushes him off with a kick to the chest.
Henrick staggers back at the sudden attacks and looks to the blade stabbed deep into his flesh. "You move, and I'll detonate that blade, heh." Selene says almost mockingly as she laboriously rises from the floor.
Undeterred, the soldier rips the blade out before Selene can gather herself and throws it, missing Selene's face by inches. She watches as Henrick's face remains impassive as he stalks towards her, lethal intent evident in the way he walks. A primal fear, suddenly overtakes Selene's mind as Henrick's stare bores into her very soul.
With a burst of magical energy, she takes off, running through the ruined streets of Manhattan. She passes a group of mutated monsters and runs past them, drawing their attention. Looking behind her, she sees only the monsters giving chase. A chill runs through her spine as she realises that Henrick is nowhere to be seen.
Selene passes through and in between broken buildings. She ducks under collapsed bridges and leaps over ravines that have opened up on the streets. She desperately runs, so fast in fact, that she outruns all the monstrosities chasing after her. The skies seem to darken even more than they already were as she stops to catch her breath.
The streets are silent. So silent that it's disturbing. Then she hears it. The faint buzz of an electrical current steadily increasing in volume. Selene looks around in fear as she presses herself flat against the wall of a building, hoping that the wall behind her would give her some measure of support.
Looking to the left, she sees a collapsed building blocking the way forward. Looking to the right, she sees the path she took, completely empty. Yet the buzzing only increases. "Where are you?!!!" she screams, her voice quivering in fear. The tang of ozone almost becomes sickening as Selene frantically looks around for any sign of her pursuer.
Then, without knowing why, she looks up. Slowly, her head tilts upwards, not daring to move too quickly. Fear threatens to constrict her throat as she sees Henrick, standing on the edge of the roof, looking straight down at her with glowing hatred filled blue eyes. "AAAAHHHHH!!!" Selene screams as she tries to run, but is knocked down by a stream of electricity. Agony rips through her system as electricity sets every nerve ending she has on fire.
Henrick drops down and stomps onto both of her legs, snapping the appendages as if they were twigs. "GAAAHHH! WAIT!!" Selene pleads, clawing at the floor desperately in a bid to escape the torment. The soldier doesn't answer as he approaches, grabbing her useless leg and dragging her away.
Father David arrives and fires a concussive blast that briefly staggers Henrick, but does nothing in forcing him to relinquish his hold. "Henrick!! Stop this, you're better than her!!" the priest shouts, blocking the path forward, his hands set in a defensive stance. A deep chuckle rumbles in Henrick's chest as he continues moving forward.
"Better?" he asks calmly as he sends a bolt of electricity to the far end of the street, resulting in a resounding explosion of sparks. "I'm just like her. A killer. Only difference is, she hurt someone I cared about. That's why she'll die today." he continues, his eyes containing a malevolence so thick it's almost visible. David just shakes his head and places a firm hand on the soldier's shoulder as he uses all of his strength to slow him down.
"I've seen it! The goodness in you, the care you have for those less fortunate." says David as he slowly gets pushed back, his eyes widening at the distant screams of mutated souls. Henrick ignores his pleas and grabs him by the neck, throwing him into the side of a van. The metal yields under the immense force, temporarily trapping the priest in warped metal.
The soldier drops Selene and rushes towards an incoming horde. He slams bodily into the first few monsters, displacing the air and cracking the ground with the force of the collision. With a roar, he enhances his body with electricity, allowing him to zip through the horde with impunity. Breaking all of their limbs, he leaves the creatures in a tangled pile and walks towards his prey.
Selene's eyes widen in fear at his approach, the smell of her own death becoming all too clear. David removes himself from the wreckage just in time to see Henrick dragging Selene towards the pile of monsters. The horde writhes and contort their bodies in an effort to move in their disabled state, their desire to tear into human flesh evident.
Stopping a few steps away, Henrick turns to Selene, a kind smile on his face. "Maybe you'll feel how Elly felt in the camp." he chuckles, watching the horde slowly make their way to a completely helpless Selene. Their snarls fill the air as they gnash their teeth and bite towards her, hunger and instinct filling their faces.
Horror is etched onto Father David's face as he rushes towards Selene in an effort to save her. A bolt of electricity is shot in front of his feet, however, and prevents him from advancing. "Henrick, don't do this!! We can find another way!" shouts the priest, hesitation clearly flashing across his face as he looks between Selene's desperate form and Henrick's face.
Seeing only malice and hatred, David steps back as he clutches his cross, genuinely terrified of the anger present on the soldier's face. "You'd stand up for her? After what she did?" Henrick snarls as he crushes both of Selene's arms, his lips pressed into thin lines as he hears her scream.
The monsters are close now, a few more seconds and they can partake in an easy feast. Tears pour from Selene's face, her once manic eye now filled with a need to live. "Please!! Not like this!!" she screams at Henrick, her voice hoarse from the screams of pain. "All I know is that we can't stoop to her level. Or else we're no better!" says the priest, though his face is a mask of confusion and doubt at his own words.
Henrick simply remains silent as Selene closes her eyes, her body no longer resisting. "Sammy, big sister will see you soon." she whispers under her breath as she resigns herself to her grisly fate. Father David closes his eyes too, unable to witness what happens next.
With a frown, Henrick shoots out a stream of electricity that electrocutes all of the disabled monsters, killing them and saving Selene. The priest opens his eyes at the sound of electric arcs and widen, watching in stunned silence as Henrick walks away without a word. David kneels down beside Selene, anger and concern warring in his mind as he carries her along.
Selene is limp in the Father's hand, unconsciousness taking hold a while ago. David's brow furrows in worry as he watches her limbs swat in unnatural angles, bones jutting out and muscles no doubt torn. The soldier glances backwards and scowls at the duo following him. "Go away." he says making his way to a dilapidated convenience store, his fists still clenched in fury.
"Thank you, Henrick." says the priest, tension melting away from his shoulders as relief floods his system. He hangs his head low as he mutters some prayers, but gets concerned when he doesn't hear a reply. David looks up and tilts his head in confusion as he sees Henrick slowly backing away.
He doesn't get to ask what's happening when a massive reptilian-like mutated creature, covered in cancerous growths and pustules, leaps down and slams its tail into his face. Father David is sent flying into the air, Selene miraculously still in his arms, as they crash into the ground a distance away.
"David! Damn it." Henrick shouts as the priest is knocked unconscious and rolls away from a massive clawed hand. The ground easily shatters at the reptilian creature's immense strength, sending Henrick into the air from the shockwave alone.
"Crap!"
