Chapter 13 - Chapter 12 A Minor Test of Skill

It's decided!

Although the increase in Constitution isn't much, the 'also in reality' option is too important.

At the same time, Zhang Feng hazily recalled that there seemed to be a [Mineral Water X2] choice in the trial world from over a decade ago.

It was probably also a double attribute for happiness.

But since it was just plain water, Zhang Feng didn't look into it further.

'From this, it seems the appearance rate for double happiness isn't low.'

While thinking, Zhang Feng chose the bizarre carrot.

After the selection.

A red carrot appeared in Zhang Feng's hand.

It seemed just like a regular carrot.

He finished it in a few bites.

Zhang Feng felt a warm current flow through him, and then his Constitution increased.

'Is this the final empowerment before the battle?'

Zhang Feng moved his body, eager to quickly get accustomed to this unexpected newfound strength.

This would take some time to adapt to.

...

July.

The air on the highway was distorted by the scorching heat.

Whiz—

A car sped by, the powerful airflow disturbing the dust on the ground.

Inside the car.

The air conditioning was whirring.

Zhang Feng was on the backseat reading a manual.

His Master was fanning Zhang Feng from the side.

In the passenger seat, Brother Haozi pursed his lips in disapproval.

At the wheel, Third Brother was focused on driving.

"Master, I'm really not hot."

Seeing his Master pick up the fan again, Zhang Feng suddenly wanted to snatch it away.

Master moved his hand back, trying to evade.

Suddenly, Zhang Feng's gesture for grabbing the fan changed into a snake-like maneuver, intercepting from the side.

Master was a bit slow to react, and Zhang Feng managed to take it.

"I'm getting old!"

Although Master said he was getting old, his face was filled with creased lines of joy,

"Four years ago, I was already no match for you."

Master leaned comfortably against the backseat and said with ease, "Back then, I wanted to take you back to the main branch to show off, but I worried you were too young, too unstable, so I postponed it until now."

"To put it bluntly, Master just didn't want to let go," Brother Haozi spoke candidly, "afraid that people at the main branch would be jealous and snatch Junior Brother away."

"There's some truth to that." Master, uncharacteristically unprovoked by Brother Haozi's words, admitted, "It's not easy for our branch to produce a prodigy.

Unlike the main branch, which is brimming with talent."

"Oh really?" Brother Haozi turned and leaned over the front seat, "What kind of talent? I feel none of them can compare to my Brother Feng!"

"Sit down, will you."

Before Zhang Feng and Master could speak.

Third Brother tugged Brother Haozi's sleeve, urging him to sit properly.

Up ahead was a highway toll booth, with two traffic police officers on duty.

Seeing the police officers, Brother Haozi stopped goofing around.

"Hey, something's not right."

But then Brother Haozi noticed some people gathered ahead, with a traffic accident at the entrance.

"Something's off." Third Brother, after a few glances, also felt something was awry.

Because the crowd, in their gestures and movements, had a somewhat skilled yet unnatural air.

"They have the look of someone with grappling skills." Zhang Feng took a glance, "Also a military vibe."

"It's your senior brother and third brother's colleagues." Master recognized their background at a glance and turned to Third Brother, "I guess something's happened here, and those onlookers are probably plainclothes detectives."

Senior Brother works for the city government.

Third Brother also works for the government, but at the provincial level.

"Please wait a moment, Master." Third Brother nodded, "I'll go ask them."

Upon reaching the toll booth, the traffic police stopped them.

Third Brother got out directly, and after closing the car door, asked, "What's going on here?"

"Please show your identification." The traffic officer, following protocol, asked for credentials and glanced toward the car.

Third Brother handed over his work badge while blocking the officer's view with his body, "Just check my ID."

The officer remained silent but continued to peer inside.

The crowd over there also suddenly had a few people turning to look this way.

Two individuals who appeared to be a couple were also slowly approaching the car.

'Turns out there is something going on!'

Thinking this, Third Brother again flipped his badge in front of the officer, "I work with the Yan Province Investigation Department and am authorized to inquire into some special police mobilization tasks and criminal obstruction operations in this province."

Third Brother has a high level of authority within the provincial police department.

But since he needed to escort Master and Junior Brother to the main branch, he opted for a 'temporary leave'.

So when something happened in the province, he wasn't notified right away.

This left Third Brother confused about the situation.

"Investigation Advisor?" The traffic officer's attention was drawn to the badge, seeing that Third Brother was a special advisor for the provincial team.

Third Brother continued asking about the prior topic, "What's happening here?"

"Hello, please wait a moment!" The traffic officer, after checking the badge, started making a phone call to verify.

Once the identity was confirmed.

He promptly returned Third Brother's badge and stood up straight, "Hello, sir! I am the captain of the Second Division Investigation team in Meng City!"

He wasn't a traffic officer but a detective.

Meanwhile, the detective signaled several approaching plainclothes officers to back off and maintain their disguise, while quickly reporting to Third Brother:

"Through surveillance, we found that two suspects are currently on this highway, and we've set up a roadblock to intercept them."

He pulled out a document with photos of the criminals from his reflective vest.

The two suspects committed murder and robbery.

"These killers probably didn't expect their identities to have already been confirmed, yet they boldly hit the highway!"

The detective gritted his teeth and said, "We suspect they're planning to flee across regions or sell off the stolen goods elsewhere!"

"Understood."

After looking through all the documents, Third Brother nodded and returned to the car to relay the information to Zhang Feng and the others.

"They are indeed audacious!" Brother Haozi couldn't stand it, "They killed an entire family of four? Even a young girl who just started middle school wasn't spared. Are they even human?"

Master said nothing, but his expression was grim.
