Chapter 25 - Chapter 25 - Heir of the Arbora Forest

Time passed, and Aelina had now entered her teenage years. The Arbora Forest, where she had grown up, had become something far different from what Kirana and Zephyr once remembered. The terraforming that had begun years ago had fully infused itself into the ecosystem. Trees that were once lush green now pulsed with glowing blue roots, like veins carrying the forest's heartbeat. Their leaves shimmered in the dark, reflecting patterns of light that danced like auroras. Even the animals had changed; their bodies were now hybrids of organic and mechanical, moving with heightened agility and strength. The world around them had turned into a breathtaking fusion of nature and technology.

To Aelina, this was home. There was no fear in her when she saw bioluminescent creatures or heard the rumbling of ancient roots shifting deep within the earth. She had grown with the changes, becoming a part of them, even if she did not fully understand it herself.

That morning, sunlight poured gently over the forest canopy. Aelina darted between the massive trees, following the faint trail Kirana and Zephyr had once taken. In her hand was a bow carved by Zephyr as a birthday gift. Her dark hair flowed freely behind her, and her eyes sparkled with excitement as she weaved through glowing roots that jutted from the ground.

"Aelina, don't go too far!" Zephyr called out from behind, his pace steady, carrying a large bow. Beside him, Kirana walked with a spear in hand, a faint smile on her lips as she watched Aelina's uncontained enthusiasm.

"Mom, look!" Aelina cried, pointing at a small luminous bird perched on a low branch. Its wings were translucent, laced with blue streaks of energy.

Kirana stepped closer, placing a gentle hand on Aelina's shoulder. "You need to move more slowly if you want to approach creatures like that. They're sensitive to sudden movements."

Zephyr folded his arms and gave a subtle nod. "But you're learning fast. Faster than I ever did. Keep this up, and you might become Arbora's finest hunter."

Aelina giggled softly, glowing with pride. "I have you and Mom as mentors. You two are legends, aren't you? I'm really lucky."

Zephyr chuckled. "We're just ordinary people who've been through a lot. But you... you're special, Aelina. You have something even we didn't."

Aelina furrowed her brows, curious. "What do you mean, Dad?"

Zephyr hesitated, but before he could answer, Kirana spoke. "You have a big heart, Aelina. And that means more than any skill with a weapon."

That day, Kirana and Zephyr taught Aelina more advanced hunting techniques. Zephyr showed her how to read animal tracks, while Kirana demonstrated how to move silently through the trees.

"These tracks are fresh," Zephyr said, pointing to the soft earth. "See how the ground is still damp? And these leaves? Just disturbed. The creature might still be nearby."

Aelina nodded, absorbing every detail. She crouched low, following the trail carefully as her parents watched from behind.

Eventually, they found a small deer with antlers that glowed blue, grazing from a radiant tree. Aelina raised her bow slowly, taking position just as Zephyr had taught her.

"Take a deep breath," Kirana whispered. "Focus your gaze."

Aelina inhaled, held it, then released the arrow. It flew true, striking the deer but not fatally. The creature leapt in panic before collapsing. Aelina rushed forward, determined not to let it suffer. Kirana handed her the spear.

"This is the hardest part," she said softly. "Ending a life you took. But it's part of the natural cycle."

Hands trembling slightly, Aelina completed the task. She knelt beside the deer, murmuring a quiet prayer Kirana had taught her.

Zephyr rested a proud hand on her shoulder. "You did well, Aelina. It's never easy, but you showed strength."

 -------------

As the sun began to set, they returned to their small home in the village. Aelina carried the game with pride, though fatigue was beginning to show on her face. Back home, Kirana began preparing dinner while Zephyr cleaned their gear.

Aelina sat by the window, watching the forest glow in the dark. Trees illuminated the night, creatures with metallic limbs roamed in silence, and the hum of roots beneath the earth created a surreal melody. To Aelina, it was all magic. But somewhere deep inside, she felt that something greater was unfolding.

"Mom," Aelina said suddenly. "Why has the forest changed like this? Is it because of the capsule I was found in?"

Kirana paused, her hands still. She turned to Aelina, her expression gentle but serious. "The forest changed because of something much bigger than us. But it isn't your fault."

Aelina looked down, fidgeting with her fingers. "But I feel like... I'm connected to all of this. The animals, the plants... it's like they know me."

Zephyr, listening from the corner, stepped closer. "You might be right, Aelina. But that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. Sometimes, being part of something greater is our destiny. And if anyone can protect the balance in this forest... it's you."

Aelina smiled faintly, though her mind still swirled with questions. Behind that smile, she knew that greater adventures and challenges awaited. The Arbora Forest had changed, and soon, she would come to understand that she was part of that change.

 --------

Time drifted gently under the glowing canopy of Arbora Forest. Aelina was no longer the child who once fumbled with her bow, aiming arrows at unmoving targets. Her movements now flowed with quiet precision and instinct, as though the forest itself was guiding her. Roots shifted away from her steps, creatures stood still as she passed, and the wind carried whispers only she could hear. Zephyr once joked that the forest seemed to love Aelina more than it loved either of them.

Her hunting skills had grown rapidly. She could now track the elusive Jevantora, forest deer with glowing antlers and unmatched speed. She knew the sound of the Lixirian insect, whose sting caused mild paralysis for several hours. She could even identify rare trees like the Faelthorn, massive flora with glowing blue roots that released poisonous bioluminescent gas when disturbed.

One misty morning, Aelina walked along a barely visible stone path, discernible only to a trained eye. The damp air carried the scent of wet earth and fading night-blooms. Then, suddenly, she halted. A strange sensation crept through her skull, like a soft current of electricity behind her eyes.

"Ugh..." she muttered, closing her eyes and clutching her head. Something was stirring within her, something she couldn't explain. It felt like the world shifted around her.

When she opened her eyes again, nothing looked the same.

Floating before her was a transparent blue hologram, pulsing faintly in the air. Information flickered across its surface, alien symbols that gradually shifted into a language she could read. She spotted a tiny insect on a branch.

"Lixirian beta, age: 3 days, threat level: moderate."

Her gaze moved to the distance where a deer stood.

"Young male Jevantora, age: 2 years, threat level: low."

Then the trees, "Faelthorn, age: 84 years." "Drassus Arborica: 150 years." "Lumina Veithia: 120 years."

Nearby, a deer with a metallic glow passed through the light.

"Mechanical Deer Age: 8 years Status: Active."

Aelina stood still. She reached out, but her fingers passed through the air. The holograms existed only in her sight, not the world around her.

But instead of fear, awe bloomed in her chest. Her mind flashed back to that day in the Ravara marketplace, when a stranger had handed her a glowing blue ring. She looked down. It was still on her finger, faintly glowing. "You're the one doing this... aren't you?" she whispered.

A small smile crossed her lips. She turned and began walking back, stepping through tunnels of sunlight between the trees toward Ravara.

When she arrived at the marketplace, her awe deepened. The holograms now hovered over people's heads, names, ages, even health conditions.

An old spice vendor: "Miron, age: 74, high blood pressure, risk level: moderate."

Symbols and geometric patterns appeared too, none she recognized. But one line of text in the corner startled her:

"Integration: AIKO - Status: Active."

Aelina froze. That name... she didn't fully understand, but her heart raced. Somehow, this device was connected to her.

She wanted to tell someone, about the holograms, the visions, the power, but something in her whispered: not yet. Kirana and Zephyr couldn't know. Not now. This was her secret, too vast to explain.

With light steps and gleaming eyes, she walked through the crowd, keeping her new world close to her heart.

After hours exploring the device's capabilities, Aelina was equal parts amazed and unsettled. She tested everything, analyzing plants, animals, even rocks. The hologram felt like a window into a world she had never imagined.

But as the sun dipped low, she knew it was time to go home. She removed the device from her finger, carefully tucking it into the inner pocket of her coat. For reasons she couldn't explain, she still didn't want to share it with Kirana. This felt like something she had to understand on her own.

When she arrived, Kirana was preparing dinner, and Zephyr sat by the hearth checking his bow. Aelina greeted them with a bright smile, trying to act normal despite her racing thoughts.

"Today was wonderful," she said, removing her coat and hanging it by the door.

"Did you hunt anything?" Zephyr asked without looking up.

"No," Aelina shook her head. "Just exploring the woods. There's always something interesting out there."

Kirana turned and smiled. "That forest never runs out of surprises. But don't wander too far, Aelina. Even if you're skilled, I still worry."

Aelina nodded. "I know, Mom. I'll be careful."

That night, they ate as usual, chatting about simple things. But Aelina's mind remained elsewhere, locked on the device and everything it revealed. She couldn't stop wondering what was really happening in the forest... and what it had to do with her.

 ------------

The next morning dawned bright over the quiet village of Ravara. Bioluminescent birds flew above the treetops, and the low rumble of roots beneath the soil played a familiar background melody to Kirana's household.

Outside their modest home, a horse approached gracefully, carrying Lyra and a tall man with neatly-combed dark brown hair.

Kirana stepped outside and beamed. "Lyra! You're back! I missed you," she said, rushing forward to embrace her old friend.

Lyra laughed, hugging her tightly. "I missed you too, Kirana. It's been far too long. I'm so happy to be back."

After a moment, Lyra turned to introduce the man beside her. "This is Draven, my friend from the northern village. He helped me a lot while I lived there."

Draven bowed slightly. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Kirana. Lyra has told me much about this place, and about all of you."

Kirana smiled warmly. "Welcome to Ravara, Draven. Please, make yourself at home."

Meanwhile, in the corner of the yard, inside a small smithing workshop, Zephyr was showing Aelina how to craft a strong bow from wood and light metal. The room brimmed with tools hanging from the walls, hammers, chisels, pliers, and neatly arranged materials on a large table.

"Watch closely, Aelina," Zephyr said, cutting the wood with precise hands. "A bow isn't just about strong material. It's about balance. The wood must be flexible, but strong enough to hold the draw."

Aelina nodded seriously. Secretly, she touched the ring on her finger, shielding it from view. The holographic display lit up before her eyes.

On the screen, detailed information appeared: ideal wood types, cutting angles, even the pressure needed for bending. With this data, every step became crystal clear.

"Aelina, are you paying attention?" Zephyr asked, squinting.

"Yes, Father!" she replied with a grin. "I understand. Flexible and balanced, right?"

Zephyr nodded, a little surprised. "You catch on fast. Keep this up and you'll be a great smith one day."

Aelina just smiled quietly, continuing her work. Deep inside, she was amazed by the ring's power.

Later, the family gathered in the main room. Lyra, Draven, Kirana, Zephyr, and Aelina sat around a simple wooden table. Warm bread and herbal tea waited on the table, lovingly prepared by Kirana.

"So how have you been, Lyra?" Kirana asked, pouring tea into Lyra's cup.

Lyra smiled. "I'm well. But I've decided not to stay in the northern village. Draven and I are planning to settle here. Closer to the forest, it feels like a better place to start anew."

Draven added, "Ravara may be small, but its potential is vast. We want to build our future here."

Zephyr nodded from his seat, arms crossed. "That's a good choice. Ravara has fertile land and a nearby river. If you need help building, I'm happy to lend a hand."

Lyra looked relieved. "Thank you, Zephyr. That means a lot."

Aelina, sitting beside Kirana, chimed in eagerly. "Mom, can I help Aunt Lyra and Uncle Draven too? I want to learn more!"

Kirana chuckled, brushing her fingers through Aelina's hair. "Of course, if that's what you want. Just don't wear yourself out, okay?"

Aelina nodded, eyes bright. But deep down, she had another plan. She wanted to test the limits of what the device could do.
