Chapter 107 – Suiko: Big Doggy, You're Such a Pervert, You Beast!
[Resident Evil Renji]: "Do you guys need the T-virus?"
[Mundane Renji]: "Huh? You've been offline all this time just to get us the T-virus? I'm honestly too touched, bro!"
If this thing could be controlled, it would be a power-up for all of them.
[One Piece Renji]: "I want it! But it's better to modify its transmission—otherwise I'm afraid my world might be wiped out!"
After all, the One Piece world is covered in oceans; if a little got into the sea, who knows what would happen. So if it can't be controlled, it's better not to use it at all.
[Resident Evil Renji]: "I'm just asking. I'm almost at Raccoon City. If you guys need it, I'll save some for you. But I can't run experiments myself, so I'll probably have to cooperate with other organizations later."
He thought, if he just brought this stuff over as it is, it would only harm other worlds.
It would definitely need improvements later, or be used in a targeted way. If it leaks out, nobody benefits.
But he himself doesn't have the means to experiment with it.
[Naruto Renji]: "It's fine, you can get in touch with Ada Wong. She should know what to do. Anyway, the story's just beginning in your world, and there are plenty of weird things there, so there's no rush. We're not that desperate for it."
T-virus, G-virus, Veronica virus, Ouroboros virus, Sun Ladder flower, and all kinds of strange things from CSOL might appear in that world. There are many ways to get stronger there, but these viruses have a big flaw—if you can't control them, they'll only end up harming everyone.
Plus, Dead by Daylight is there, too, which means that world might also have all sorts of orange flowers and other weird items.
But let's be real, no one can resist being tempted by these things.
If you can control it, you could mass-produce warriors with great power.
But the more controllable it is, the weaker its special effects. They're all aware of that, but there's no choice; stability comes first.
If using it turns people into mindless creatures that can infect others, then forget it. They want to enhance themselves and their own people, not create a horde of monsters.
[Resident Evil Renji]: "Yeah, I know. I'll probably have to cooperate with some organization for the next steps. I wouldn't dare mess with it alone. I originally wanted to be like the Grim Reaper, Hunk, but now I'm forced to act like Li Sanguang."
He wanted to be a lone wolf hero, but now he's being pushed to contact Ada Wong. He honestly didn't want too much to do with that woman.
With her, you'd get sold off without even knowing it.
But all that can wait till he gets to Raccoon City—he still has a ton of stuff to investigate.
Up ahead is Raccoon City, to the left is Silent Hill, in the middle is the Ishimura, behind is Ao Oni, stand still and you're in the stone chamber, walk forward and it's Minakami Village.
With all these events waiting for him to investigate, Renji really felt like the Interpol job could go to whoever wanted it.
Seriously, is he dealing with people or monsters every day?
[Yokai Renji]: "Does that stuff slow down aging?"
[Resident Evil Renji]: "It should, but aren't you after pure gold?"
That pure gold thing, seems like he still hasn't gotten it.
[Yokai Renji]: "Not yet, so I'll just keep thinking about what's available now."
Ever since he started dating a human, Renji felt he'd become a lot softer.
Though his soul is human, and his personality isn't as extreme as Sesshomaru's, sometimes he's genuinely puzzled—he seems less and less able to empathize with humans now.
He once agreed with something Sesshomaru said early on: only foolish half-demons get involved with humans. Humans live just a hundred years, and after she dies, all those promises turn into endless pain.
Back then, he always refused to embrace love or get close to humans—though he wasn't as extreme as Sesshomaru.
"Big Doggy, there's no more hot water. Can you add some for me?"
Just as Renji was lost in thought, Suiko's voice came from the bathroom and snapped him out of it. He looked up and asked, "How do I add it? Should I just bring it in?"
Renji glanced around, but didn't see anywhere to add water.
"Mm, just get some for me and leave it outside the curtain. But no peeking, okay?"
What's with that last line?
Does she think even a gentleman can't be trusted?
He swore he'd never peek!
He opened the door and carried the hot water in. The curtain and steam made everything hazy, but he could still see Suiko soaking in the tub. The scent made things even harder for Renji to bear.
"No peeking."
"I'm not peeking."
Renji put down the basin, and a thought flashed through his mind—beast, or worse than a beast?
Forget it.
Maybe this wasn't the best idea.
He shook his head, set the basin down, and turned to leave.
Just as he left, Suiko stood up in the tub, wrapped herself in a towel, and looked with a sly smile in the direction Renji had gone. She'd actually been watching him the whole time. Although she just wanted to tease Renji, she was still a bit nervous.
She'd made two plans: if Renji came in, she had a towel and could tease him about it later.
If he didn't come in, she wouldn't lose anything—but she was a bit disappointed. If Renji had gotten a bit bold, she would've actually been okay with it.
Big Doggy really doesn't know how to date.
Suiko stroked her chin, feeling more determined to train Renji in the ways of love.
It felt a bit like raising a pet.
As she thought about it, her mood improved.
Soaking in the bath, Suiko finally felt relaxed. This was always her favorite way to unwind after a day of exorcising demons.
After a while, Suiko dried off and got dressed. Instead of her usual exorcist armor, she put on one of the kimonos Renji had bought for her.
It was her first time wearing this kind of outfit in front of the person she liked, even though she'd had it for a while.
"Chuu!"
Kirara looked curiously at Suiko's hesitant expression. Yesterday, she'd been muttering about how she'd definitely wear the kimono Renji had given her, right?
So why was she scared to go out now?
Kirara couldn't understand.
"Kirara, do you think I look weird in this kimono?"
Suiko checked herself in the kimono—it did feel a little awkward wearing it for the first time, but she thought she looked pretty.
He should like it, right?
"Chuu!"
Kirara shook her head. She thought Big Doggy would definitely love it—her master looked beautiful today.
Kirara thought, if she ever had the chance to take human form, she'd want to be as beautiful as Suiko. But she knew that chance was slim to none."Maybe I'm just overthinking things. Why have I become so sentimental?"
Suiko felt a little melancholic. She clearly hadn't been like this before—was this the power of love?
She really cared about what he thought of her.
Suiko quietly cheered herself up. Since Renji gave this to her, he must like it too, right? Otherwise, why would he give it to her?
But does that idiot even know what giving a kimono means?
Maybe he has no idea at all.
Still, since their relationship was already established, she didn't dwell on it.
Click.
The bathroom door creaked open, and Suiko carefully poked her head out to look around. When she saw Renji sitting on a tree branch watching the door, a flash of embarrassment and annoyance crossed her face.
Of course!
She'd just been thinking about secretly checking outside, but now it looked like all her little tricks had been caught by Renji—wouldn't he just make fun of her for this?
"Big Doggy, you're so bad, hiding outside waiting for me to come out!"
"Can you stop calling me Big Doggy?"
A dark line ran across Renji's face. He didn't know when Suiko had gotten so fond of this nickname. She said calling him by name was too distant; she felt they needed to get closer.
So "Big Doggy" stuck.
"Hehe, doesn't it feel more intimate to you?"
Suiko giggled. She thought it was a great nickname—why didn't Renji like it?
"So, how do I look?"
As she spoke, Suiko spun around in a full circle.
At first, she'd felt shy coming out, but seeing Renji's calm expression, her nervousness faded and she relaxed.
"You look beautiful."
"Then aren't you going to hug me, Big Doggy?"
So direct?
A hint of surprise flashed across Renji's face. Seeing Suiko with her arms wide open, waiting for him to hug her, he didn't hesitate and pulled her into his arms. The faint fragrance from Suiko stirred something in his heart.
"If I said you could kiss me now, would you… mm…"
Before Suiko could finish, she closed her eyes and hugged Renji even tighter.
As expected, he's such a pervert!
In Suiko's mind, she gave Renji another label. She'd never been in love before, but she was sure—this guy definitely isn't an innocent yōkai!
"Big Doggy, will we always be together like this?"
Leaning on Renji's shoulder, Suiko murmured softly, but deep down, there was a trace of unwillingness.
It seemed like the two of them couldn't always be together.
She was human, and Renji was a yōkai. Her lifespan couldn't compare. When she grew old, he'd still be young. Wouldn't her aged, withered appearance seem ugly to him?
Would he fall for some other young, pretty girl then?
Suiko even felt a bit of fear and confusion, which surprised her. In the past, no matter what kind of powerful yōkai she faced, she always handled it with composure.
But now… why was she like this?
"We will. We'll always be together."
If it were before, Renji wouldn't have let himself get involved with Suiko.
But now, he actually had a way to let Suiko live on.
"Mm. Big Doggy, let's just cherish the present—let's leave the future for later. But if we have kids, they'll be half-yōkai, right? You saw those half-yōkai on Penglai Island before. Will you protect our children in the future?"
Suiko suppressed her bit of unwillingness. No matter how clear-headed she was, she knew that love made her selfish. She wanted all of Renji. Even if she kept persuading herself, deep down there was always a voice telling her: Renji won't die, he'll live a long time, and she could only remain in his memories—her old, withered face might even replace her youthful beauty in his mind.
But there was nothing she could do.
Suddenly, she felt so unwilling—only able to have him for a few decades. If only they could grow old together…
A hint of sadness crossed Suiko's heart, but she couldn't bring herself to say these things. She knew she couldn't be so selfish.
"We will. We'll both protect them."
Renji gently stroked Suiko's back, sensing her anxiety.
Is she worried about the future?
"Mm, then I can be at ease. Big Doggy, let's go see Totosai—your weapon should be ready by now, right?"
During their travels together, they'd exorcised many yōkai and visited many places. The appointment with Totosai was almost here, and Suiko also knew the war between the panther clan and the dog demon clan had begun. Even though there hadn't been a big battle yet, as the young leader of the dog demons, she didn't want Renji spending all his time in romance while the frontlines fought.
They'd spent enough time together, and she felt happy.
"Lord Seimei, it seems Suiko's Four Souls are fluctuating greatly!"
A shikigami observed the fluctuation in Suiko's soul.
Was this the power of love?
Inside a room, Abe no Seimei listened to the child and a smile curled his lips. "She is unwilling—unwilling to die before Renjiyasha. She wants to be with him forever. That's why her Four Souls are so turbulent. It fits my plan perfectly. The more her Four Souls fluctuate, the stronger her desire, the more perfect this jewel becomes. Her love for Renjiyasha will become one aspect of the Four Soul Jewel, drawing them both into it. They will be forever bound within the jewel, entwined for all eternity."
"What a perfect jewel… Truly, love is the greatest bond between humans and yōkai. Even the strongest, most unflappable shrine maiden, once she meets a yōkai she loves, can lose all reason…"
At this moment, Abe no Seimei felt incredibly pleased, even thinking that this was the perfect beginning. This Four Soul Jewel would definitely become the most proud masterpiece of his entire life!
