Chapter 42 - No Time For Your Silly Games

Mia's body trembles, her heart pounding loudly against her ribcage, she is sweaty and hot, looking off into space and not seeing the physical form of her house.

Her breath became more laboured as she replayed the scene in her head. What was she thinking!?

Now Fredrick knew! What would her boss do? She knew Fredrick was interested in her from their personal meet up for her makeover but won't this be a leverage for him to latch himself on her? How could she?

She moved shakily to her bed and sank down on it, keeping her phone beside her and placing her head on her palm. What was she to do now?

Her words played back into her ears, it felt like an invisible being was playing back her statement back to her and right into her ears at that, with a loud speaker.

"Take the money back as part of breaching the contract, I will find a way to give back the last 5 million even if it means selling my soul to the devil."

Selling which soul to the devil!? Her eyes stretched and out of them came tears, tears she could not contain. What was she to do? Prostitution? Probably running off to Fredrick and taking the advantage of his interest in her.

'But wouldn't that be moving from the frying pan to the fire?' She thought in her now banging head.

Where was her phone? Her left hand moved frantically in search of her phone without looking to see where it was as she found it.

She was in deep trouble and she knew it. She needed to tell Beatrice about this before it went out of hand and become a burden she would break under.

Her phone rang first and she blinked the tears blurring her eyes down to her cheek when there was another knock on the door.

This time, she knew fear.

Rey had watched Fredrick leave, he had actually given him a small nod which he tightly returned. He stared back at Mia's door and flexed his jaw.

His phone rang, calling his attention back from Mia's door. He wasn't expecting a call but seeing his mother's contact made him sigh. He had the urge to ignore her call, he wasn't ready for her bubbling energy or the surprise she had for him.

Watching the call about to end, he realized he could not afford to worry her, picking up the call, he made sure to speak before she did.

"Hey Mum. Good morning, I am fine and I remember, I will be there before lunch."

"That's my boy." He could hear the smile in her voice and practically see her smile before she ended the call.

Holding down his phone, he was about to proceed to Mia's door when his phone vibrated yet again. This time he frowned, a tinge of annoyance and not disturbance laced his eyes as he looked at the number.

He recognized it immediately, it was his latest nuisance, the heavens forgive him. Swiping the green icon because he knew just how persistent she could be, he spoke into the phone before she did.

"Hello Celine, it's been a while."

"Celine?" She asked like she wasn't sure she was the one with the name.

"I've got no time for your silly games." His face looked bored.

Her chuckle came then, it was the same, just like it was fifteen years ago. She laughed like she knew a lot of secrets, like she was planning something big behind the scenes. His sister had never liked her from the get go.

"Isn't it amazing how you still remember my voice and my number even after all this time?" She asked him, softening her voice the way she always did whenever she spoke to him or any other person she wanted to deceive.

'You wish.' Rey thought in his head but he didn't say it out loud, letting her drown in her delusion was better, he had other important things to do.

"Old habits die hard." Was his straight forward and emotionless reply.

When he heard her scoff over the phone, he knew she knew he was lying and she was being a little sarcastic earlier.

"Is it really true?"

"What?" He asked innocently like his mind hadn't connected the reason behind her question.

"The news, is it true?" The desperation in her voice nauseated him.

"Is this why you called?" He returned the question but got silence as a reply.

"You really amaze me Celine. Fifteen years gone only to call me for the first time after that you ask about the random news you saw online." He looked up to the bright sky, he was tired of talking.

"You take things a little too seriously." Was her reply.

"Shouldn't I?"

"You haven't changed a bit. For how long did you know I was the one?"

"I think it would be best to hang up now if there is nothing else to say."

"Typical you, unfeeling and unwilling. Let's meet up sometime after now."

"Fine by me." Rey acquiesced, not because he would want to meet up with her, he needed to get this done with.

"Would you set the date or should…"

"Bye Celine, till some other time." He ended the call before she said anything else.

His eyes were still on Mia's door, he could drill a hole into it with his eyes if he could.

Matching towards the door, he heard her phone ring again. The damned phone! He imagined himself taking the phone from her and breaking it into pieces right before her eyes to drive his point home.

Closing his eyes to steady his breath and be as natural as possible, he knocked on the door.
