Chapter 4
First Day Jitters
I completed the formalities and headed straight to the CEO's office, knocking on the door. "Knock,knock" I waited for a response. "Come in" he said.
I took a deep breath and entered his office. When i entered the office, the CEO's strict elderly face made me nervous but i composed myself and introduced myself confidently. "Good morning, sir. I'm Mia Heros, your new secretary." Despite my professional demeanor, i was internally shaken.
The CEO's gaze made me quiver, but i maintained my composure. "Not bad" he said with a hint of amusement on his face, and i smiled back at him,trying to hide my nervousness. "Mia Heros, you must know where your office is by now, make sure you familiarize yourself with the environment", he instructed me.
"On the desk you will see the document left by previous secretary. Start with that for now" he said with a serious look on his face while looking at me. "Okay sir" i said with a serious professional look on my face. " You can go" he said. I nodded and was about to leave when he called me back.
"Mia" he called. I stopped and turned back to him answering "Yes sir, do you need me to do something" I asked? He looked at me with this intimidating look in his eyes which made me feel very uncomfortable, then he warned me "Do your job properly and don't do anything that will cost you your job. I can tell you're a smart lady, so don't disappoint me, do you understand me?" I was taken aback, due to his words because i could not understand why he said all those things to me. "Did you hear me" he asked, and i stuttered, "Y-yes, sir". Then he excused me from his office with his hand, i understood and walked out of his office.
I closed the door gently when i walked out of the office afraid i will do something to anger him. I left his office wondering if it was a warning or complement. I said while talking to myself.
"My new boss is so scary" i kept on rubbing my hand feeling the goosebump on my hand with a funny look on my face.
I walked to my table,sat down and began familiarizing myself with everything. I saw the document the CEO was talking about and dove into the document. I was so engrossed while walking that when i received a call I was so startled,
"Oh my!" i exclaimed to myself while putting my hand on my chest due to how surprised I was. When the landline on my desk rang again, i immediately got myself together and picked the call answering with a professional look on my face. "Mia come to my office" the CEO summoned me to his office. "Okay sir" i said to him and immediately stood up to go to his office.
I walked to his office breathing in and out. I knocked on his door and walked in. "Sir you asked for me" i said. He looked at me and asked "What is the time Mia" , I looked at my watch and replied "12:00 sir", "And" he said to me while frowning. "And, what does he mean" i taught to myself while subconsciously scratching my head.
He sighed and said to me "Mia Heros let me remind you, if you want to keep your job, be smart. I like walking with smart people not stupid and silly once" he said with a frown on his face. I swallowed hand and asked him nervously, "Sir what did i do wrong?" I asked. " It 12pm, is it not time for you to get my lunch or do you want me to get it myself?" he asked me in sarcastic tone .
Only then did i realize i forgot to get his lunch, i immediately apologize to him. " Am so sorry sir, this will not happen again. I got so engrossed while looking at the document that i did not realize it was time for lunch. It totally slipped my mind, am so sorry sir" I apologize again. He sighed and said " This will be the last time, there should not be a next time or else" he said
"There will be no next time sir" i said bowing my head. "Okay, as par this is your first day, i will let it go but if this happens next time, just hand me your resignation latter, like i said earlier.
I like walking with smart and intelligent people not silly once" he warned me again. "Am very sorry sir, this mistake will not repeat itself" i apologized, promising to do better. "What would you like to have sir?" I asked him bring out my note book to jute down what he says.
He smiles and nodded at my action,dictating his lunch preferences to me. "Very well sir, i will get your lunch immediately" i said bowing to him and walking out to get his lunch. It took me about 5min to get his lunch.
I rushed back praying he won't complain that i was late. "It not my fault that am late, the cue was to long. There was nothing i could do about that. I hope he understands and not threatening me with my job again, i won't be able to handle it" i said while crying but with no tears on my face.
I walked fast and got to the office, i knocked and entered his office walking to his table and dropping his lunch on the table in a gentle manner while praying in my head, praying that he won't notice and question me.
When i dropped his meal, he looked up and said his thanks. "Thank you" , "No need to thank me, it part of my job sir" i said with a professional smile on my face. He nodded and said "Go and have your lunch and get back to work" he said to me.
I was thankful he didn't say anything and i walked out immediately incase he remembers. When i walked out I thanked God. "Thank God he didn't say anything" I breathed a sigh of relive and went to have my lunch.
