Chapter 6 - Talent

(Earth, 11 years ago)

Orphaned at birth, he was raised by his grandparents in a small rural town.

It was during a tussle with another boy at the local market that they discovered his raw talent in martial arts.

After a month of being grounded for beating up a kid, his grandpa surprised him by bringing him to a boxing instructor.

At the time, Isaac was only 8 years old, but his boxing instructor was blown away by the untapped potential he held.

His footwork was unpolished but swift; his body moved with his punches, and the force generated by his small frame was leagues above others his age.

So, despite the cost and time, Isaac's grandpa dropped him off at the gym every day from 3 to 6 after school.

The Miracles were a humble family. For generations, they had lived on the land and cultivated it.

They weren't wealthy, but they were comfortable. However, Grandpa Miracle and Grandma Miracle weren't as young as they used to be.

They began falling behind on work, as their tiring bodies caused them to slow down.

And with Isaac 3 hours away at the boxing gym, he wasn't around to help with the farmwork .

Had they asked, Isaac would've gladly left boxing to help his grandparents. But in no world would they ever let their failures stop their grandson from having fun.

It wasn't until a year later that the pressure of it all began to show itself. While waiting for his grandpa to pick him up, his coach received a call from his grandma.

His grandpa had ended up in the hospital for a sprained ankle after slipping off the tractor. It was something minor, nothing life-threatening, but it enlightened the ignorant Isaac to his irresponsibility.

Without a second's hesitation, he decided to stop going to the gym, despite both his coaches' and grandparents' requests.

His coach sighed at the prospect of losing a world champion talent but accepted his decision.

His grandparents, on the other hand, never stopped telling him to get back into it.

His grandmother especially hoped that she'd see him on the big screen one day-more specifically, the Olympics-as Isaac's grandma was a sucker for it ever since grandpa had proposed to her at the 1976 Summer Olympics.

So, even though he verbally disagreed, in secret, he began practicing boxing and other various sports that he found interesting.

Using the budding internet and his raw talent, he began teaching himself the art of wrestling, taekwondo, judo, fencing, and boxing.

The next Olympics would be in 2016 when he turned 12. It was a long way away, but for his grandparents, he wanted to try.

Looking back, Isaac didn't know if it came from arrogance or ignorance , but he still remembered the immense confidence ingrained into his very bones.

Isaac was incredibly nervous as he stepped onto the artificial rock platform.

He knew that no one was expecting anything great from him, but just the sheer number of faces among the crowds caused a shiver to run down his spine.

Isaac's legs trembled. This was the moment, the fantasy of thousands, now just one step away.

If the mirror showed anything… anything at all. He might have a chance.

But if not? He'd be no one. Again.

So, with a bit of reluctance, he placed his palm on the cloudy surface of the mirror's face.

A hair's breadth of time passed until the mirror shuttered with a violence unbefitting of an ancient artifact.

[Name: Isaac Miracle

Spiritual root: Null root (Unknown)

Luck: Mediocre

Constitution: Blank (Unknown)

Affinity: None]

Isaac had no idea what a Null root or a Blank constitution meant.

He looked around at the surrounding crowd to see if they knew anything, but they too only held confused expressions.

Isaac felt confused, unsure, and internally crushed by the results of his examination. The so-called genius had long since fallen from his peak.

Null Root. Blank Constitution. No affinity. The mirror might as well have told him to put the fries in the bag.

Isaac clenched his jaw. A dozen insults from online forums echoed in his head. He stepped forward but then he saw nothing.

He wasn't on the platform anymore; he was somewhere else, somewhere dangerous.

"Did he just?"

"No one's been accepted in fifty years..."

"And he had no root?"

Whispers turned to silence. For the first time in decades, the Great Love Sect had spoken. And it had chosen the one with nothing.

For those in line they lamented the fact that someone had been chosen already.

One young man however, stood defiantly at the hard limit set by the Great Love Sect.

Despite it being against the rules, he pushed past the others onto the artificial platform.

With unriddled arrogance, he placed his palm onto the cloudy mirror artifact as if he owned it.

In a brilliant flash of light, the mirror's surface rippled with systematic precision.

[Name: Ji Wei

Spiritual root: Celestial Root

Luck: Heavenly

Constitution: Starlight core body

Affinity: Celestial, Star, Light]

The crowd hushed as the prospects of the young man caused the once relaxed elders of the other sects to hunger with desire.

Though out of line, three elders from three different sects rushed onto the stage, aiming to kidnap the talented young man.

The Great Love Sect held an untouchable reputation for centuries, but due to 50 years of silence from its doors, the outside world had grown arrogant about their prowess.

And someone needed to put them in their place.

From a distant location, one man sliced the elders' connection to time in half.

To the spectacle of the crowd around them, they stared in horror as the three elders froze above the clouds.

With a simple wave of his hand, threads of karmic fate sprang from the three men.

They transcended space and time as they attached themselves to every person the three men were connected to.

With another swing of his sword, the world was stained with blood.

Billions of people were erased from the present as history began to rewrite itself.

While memories of the new history emerged in their minds, the people of the mortal realm did not forget.

Couples awoke next to different partners, peasants rose to royalty, and kingdoms with centuries of history vanished from reality.

The general public didn't know how, but they understood why.

They had offended an immortal.
