Chapter 27 - Old Minds In A New Dawn

Did you think my story ended? Heck no.

This is just the beginning—and it's a brand-new dawn.

I mean, sure, I'm a happy man. Well, Dark Fairy. With a stunning wife, Scarlette, ruling over the united Fairy Kingdoms by my side.

Is it easy? No.

Does it feel right? Absolutely.

Do I love doing it? Yes… and no.

Do I make it look easy? Of course. I rule with flair—often with a Kitsune draped over my shoulders like a very sassy, orange shawl.

Seriously, what else am I supposed to do with a nine-tailed fox? Play fetch?

You might be wondering: what the heck am I doing here? Why me? Why am I the King?

Well… because I can be.

Truth is, ruling the kingdom myself sounded far better than letting the corrupt monarchs keep wrecking it. You should've seen the records—Judorah, Baltimore, Luxeron… disasters, every one. Epic fails. Grade-A examples of how not to lead.

But me and Scarlette? We're built different.

Scarlette—the first Love Fairy born of pure magic. They call her the Queen of Hearts and Ruin. And now? She's my queen.

Unfortunately for her, I'm still just Veravos Spade. Your Dark Fairy King, lounging on a very uncomfortable throne.

Then the gong rang.

The room fell silent. I pressed my cheeks with both hands.

Oh. Here we go again—work.

Scarlette giggled, watching me roll my eyes for the fifth time today.

"Send them in," I muttered to the guards, slouching deeper into my seat.

The grand doors creaked open.

I raised an eyebrow, expecting the usual councilors. Maybe a disgruntled duke or two.

But what I saw made my smirk drop.

Because nothing—and I mean nothing—could have prepared me for what walked through that door.

Why today?
