Chapter 28 - Conclude - A new Fight

Daniello, as if tired from standing, sat down at his desk to rest his legs before continuing,

"Of course, everything I've said so far has only scratched the surface. Every person must dive deep into themselves, into their singularity, if they truly want to understand it."

"And that only comes from accumulated experiences. You won't be able to use your singularity properly unless you face situations that force you to figure it out."

"Creating mental scenarios in your head for different situations can help. Because using your singularity recklessly every time will only accelerate your destruction and death."

"Some people say that since death is inevitable and their fate is sealed, they might as well use their singularities however they want. There are even groups and factions that encourage this kind of behavior."

"But here comes the real question: Are all Mutations deadly? Do all Mutations restrain their owners?"

"The answer isn't truly known. It depends on the belief of each person—every individual has their own perspective."

"Because Mutations can become weapons in themselves—tools for the singularity user. In the Kanther Empire, there's a famous family known for their hereditary singularity... and even their hereditary Mutation."

"The more they use their Mutation, the longer their lifespan becomes. They call it 'cursed immortality.'"

"But within their family, not everyone inherits this singularity or Mutation. They are forced to watch their own children, relatives, and loved ones die as time passes... while they remain."

"However, that Mutation comes with another weapon—a curse they call the 'Eternal Slumber.' They fall into deep sleep, hibernating for long periods, completely detached from human life. This causes them to forget human instincts and bonds—they become nothing more than empty beings without emotion or soul."

"That's why the Kanther Empire makes an enormous effort to maintain balance, ensuring that family follows the laws and doesn't commit anything... unsavory."

"Immortality sounds nice—there are many ways to reach it. But if you avoid forming relationships and diving into the sea of emotions with others, what's the point? And living alone forever... may not be that great either."

"Back to our main point: While there are Mutations that grant insane longevity and even immortality... there are also Mutations that steal your life force. You'll grow old while still young, and die before even knowing why."

"That's why singularity users must go deep into thought—to discover themselves, to understand their Mutations and accept them. To preserve whatever humanity they have left, and of course, to grow accustomed to their singularity."

"A singularity will always come with a Mutation. That Mutation can be a weapon that kills you... or a weapon that helps you. But there will always be negatives, even if the positives are greater."

"Don't worry about other singularities, other types, or other people's problems. Look for yourselves inside your singularities. Solve your own problems first, and only then can you look toward others. I'm not saying be selfish—but that's what you have to do to survive and to help the One Throne Alliance. It's the least you can do in return for what the Alliance has provided you."

Daniello continued talking about loyalty and patriotism for a while. It was clearly a scripted speech, meant to plant some nationalistic values inside the students and make them feel responsible.

Arsene, meanwhile, was counting the words in his head—especially the parts about singularities, Mutations, and bloodlines. There were so many possibilities.

Especially the idea that singularities could be inherited through blood... perhaps something inside a person's veins.

There were too many questions surrounding this. The history of singularities itself—the fact that they were foreign to this world, and that Mutations appeared as a curse from the gods toward humans who adapted to these foreign powers.

The origin of singularities was full of secrets and unanswered questions.

Arsene was lost in thought, wondering to himself,

"Erebus... was it really a good idea for me to attend this lecture? All it did was confuse me more... and left me with even more questions without answers."

Daniello spoke once more to conclude the session, which had dragged on for quite some time.

"I think that's enough for today. Normally, you wouldn't learn all of this at once—it's spread over several sessions. But the truth is, information doesn't help much in this field, especially regarding Singularities, since, as I said earlier, they differ from person to person and don't rely on a single variable.

You'll understand this better with training and repeated use over time. Personally, I haven't fully discovered my own Singularity. The potential hidden within Singularities can far exceed your imagination.

I apologize in advance—there won't be time for questions today. But next time, you'll have the chance with Professor Kravats.

Just don't tell him I talked too much… and don't ask him about Mutations either, or I'll get in trouble for spoiling things for you.

I'll leave you now in the care of divine providence. Amen."

Daniello vanished from the room as if he had turned into an invisible ghost. The students stared at his desk, as if he had forgotten something.

Daniello reappeared with an embarrassed smile and a sheepish laugh.

"Ahaha, I forgot my bag. Ahaha, sorry—now I'll really be going!"

He disappeared again.

Arsene sat at the back, his mind swirling with many thoughts.

Things he didn't know—the past of this body, how he ended up in this world without memories, and why. The seemingly endless knowledge about this world, the strange and eccentric people he kept encountering day after day.

He had to do something about it—especially if he wanted to live as a free person.

Because, as he had started to discover, especially after speaking several times with Erebus, it seemed like the Academy was merely one of many factions trying to control anyone who could be a dangerous variable in the future.

Not just the Academy, but even the One Throne Alliance—and perhaps this entire world.

The best thing he could do now was strengthen himself.

As long as that was the case, schemes crumbled before overwhelming strength. Not always—but most of the time.

That's why Arsene wasn't planning to stay stuck at the bottom.

Some students nearby were chatting, and he overheard them:

"There's still half an hour left before class officially ends—he tricked us! He left early and left us confused!"

Another student responded,

"He always does this! That's just how Danilo is! Is it possible his Mutation is draining his lifespan?"

A girl disagreed,

"No, the thing is… today is the first competition between fourth- and fifth-year students, and he probably wants to be there to watch. It starts in half an hour—the first match, and maybe the best one… Black Nightmare will fight the Sky Walkers!"

"What's more, the event is open to us, the third-years, too. But tickets are limited—so that's the deal."

The whole class stared at her in surprise and astonishment.

They had completely forgotten about it.

Everyone stood up and rushed toward the large door, hurrying toward the teleportation area to secure spots on the fifth floor reserved for fifth-years to watch the battle in the Sky Arena.

Luckily for them, most of the other third-years were still in class.

Well… only some of them, since the majority had already skipped their classes today to attend the match.

Arsene would be lying if he said he wasn't interested in the fight.

A battle between elites—wasn't that the best benchmark to measure the level of strength he needed to reach as soon as possible?

But how could he attend?

Only third-years and above were allowed to be there.

Arsene approached the nearby students, placed a hand on one student's shoulder, and greeted him with a smile.

"Hello! If you Don't mind me asking ! Do you know the way to Professor Erebus's office?"
