đlysia sat cross-legged at the edge of her bed, the sleeves of her night robe pushed just above her wrists, a warm vanilla-scented oil still lingering in the air from her earlier soak.
The chambers were quiet now. Dim candlelight danced lazily across the walls, and the sound of the wind rustling the drapes was the only other company she had.
The ladies-in-waiting had done their roundsâfluffed the pillows, tidied her shelves, folded her gowns for the morning.
Mira had even patted her shoulder gently with a knowing smile before leaving, as if to say "Rest well, my lady. You earned it today."
Elysia breathed in deeply, as if the calmness of her room could pour itself straight into her lungs.
She wasn't ready for sleep. Not quite yet.
