Chapter 5 - Chapter 4

Chapter 4

The atmosphere in the mansion became tense the moment everybody heard the cries of Christiana. They didn't understand what happened for her to scream like that.

Rumors spread quickly that their mistress was going to give birth. Though, the reason why everybody was tense instead of being happy was something else.

Minutes ago, the cries of their mistress were gone. They should have been celebrating right now, but they didn't hear the cries of the baby.

Was the child born dead? Though this thought was going through everybody's heads, nobody dared to voice it out.

In the large room where Christiana resided, doctors and midwives were tense. Some were chewing their nails in anticipation as if waiting for something to happen.

Alice held the baby boy gently with a stream of ominous thought going in her head. If this baby didn't open his eyes, she might see the worse day of her life.

The baby boy opened his eyes to everybody's surprise and looked at her in confusion. She finally sighed in relief as if she had saved half the kingdom from being destroyed.

The tension in the room eased as the doctor nearby shouted in a loud voice for everybody to hear.

"The young master is perfectly healthy!"

All the people in the room and around it sighed in relief. Rumors spread quickly and the whole palace got to know of this fact. Lionas, who was outside waiting, stormed inside the room the moment he heard the news.

There, he saw his child cuddled near his wife. He had white hair and red eyes along with the most beautiful face he had ever seen in his life. Was he a father now? Yes he was!

He came to them and noticed Christiana finally awake. She gave him a beautiful smile as she looked at him and said in her usual melodious voice.

"Our son is strong and healthy. Let's name him Valerious."

Lionas couldn't say no to her and only nodded. Lionas felt something stir in his heart the moment he touched his son, who only looked at him in curiousness and mild confusion.

Then suddenly he started crying and flailing loudly as if he was in pain. His tears soaked the floor making everybody present in the room frown.

Christiana took the baby and tried to soothe him, but it failed as the baby started crying even harder. Everybody was puzzled as to why he was crying so much.

What happened???

My mind started working as if I was awake from a long dream. Though the dizziness still remained, I opened my eyes when I sensed light enter through my eyelids.

What I saw were a pair of yellow eyes looking at me in anticipation. I couldn't think straight with my foggy mind, as if I was lucid dreaming.

I had my questions about that white haired beautiful woman when a man with red hair entered in my distorted vision, ruffling what I could assume as my hair.

But, what is happening here? Am I still dreaming or what? My vision started getting clearer as time passed. I remembered now!

I was on the battle field buried and then I woke up to see something… I shuddered and then. Ahhhhhhhhh!

The people around me started growing holes all over their bodies. Their clothes started melting and their skin vaporized. Then, the maggots came bursting open their eye sockets.

I tried to move, but felt slow in my movements. My breathing quickened in suffocation, as tears formed in my eyes without my realization.

It was then that the woman with white hairs and eyes near me took me in her arms. Her eyes burst open and the remnants of her eyes hit my cheeks.

Her hands, which had multiple large and small holes, spewed those rotting maggots on me. Those maggots crawled up my face and started eating me from within.

Her maw opened wide, revealing countless uneven teeth and sunk them into my stomach making those rotting maggots erupt alongside acid. The maggots tore open my eyes and started devouring them as blood gushed out.

My screams faded as I started choking up in my own blood. The pain I felt was too vivid and real to imagine as my consciousness faded into oblivion.

My eyes opened once again as I lay in a cradle peacefully with my breath slow and steady. Hadn't those maggots killed me? How was I still alive despite that?

If my memory serves me right, I died on the battlefield when my collar exploded in front of that massive corrupted eye. I later found myself in that room where I was killed by those maggots.

Looking around, the walls were painted in white and looked quite lavishly decorated. There were candles illuminating the room and the sky outside was dark with countless tiny sparkles.

The old mad had described about countless tiny sparkles in the night sky in one of his stories. I tried to get up, but failed to do so.

Confused, I looked at my hands and, wait what! I look at my hands, which were quite small and looked nothing like the hands I was familiar with.

Looking down, I noticed that, my body looked like a newborn child's and my bed was just a cradle. I soon realized what was happening with me. I had been reincarnated into a new world like in those stories told by that old man.

The night in my previous world was eternally dark, and had nothing like those shiny sparkles, which confirmed that this was a different world.

I had heard from the priests about how one goes to hell or heaven depending upon their sins after death and is reincarnated by the gods. Did the gods finally notice my innocence and reincarnate me into a better world?

I remembered the white haired beautiful woman and the red haired man. Were they my parents in this new world? They looked quite kind hearted from what I remember.

My line of thought was broken when I heard the soft feminine voice of my mother. She called my name and came to my cradle in a different dress than what I had seen earlier.

She started saying words that I couldn't recognize. In the end, my mother became all goofy and ended up cuddling me. I couldn't think of a proper response as I had never experienced such a thing.

Were all mothers like this? Is this how a normal child grows up? My mother seemed kind hearted and a good natured woman compared to the orphanage priestess who used to pinch me whenever we met.

She took me in her arms and went towards the balcony from the room. From there, I could see the entire town in my vision. It was just… Just beautiful!

I had never seen such a beautiful sight in my life. There were busy people tending to their business and tall buildings illuminated by countless lights which I didn't understand how.

The average height of the buildings was about three floors. The scene looked like those medieval stories the old man used to tell. The stories were true! A city like that existed, though in a different world.

My mother caught the glint in my eyes and again started saying something I couldn't understand. I resolved myself that the first thing I would do is understand the language of this world.

Though right now, what mattered to me was my mother tickling me. I couldn't help but laugh unbearably, and that is when, I saw it!

I saw my mother's hands holding me develop countless holes. Her eyes were burst open by countless maggots in them. Her skin started to sizzle and became red.

What! Why is this happening again? No! No! No! NOOOOOOO!

My head started to hurt and my vison distorted again like last time. My mother's spine twisted and she became a four legged beast. I fell to the ground in a thud.

She then sunk her teeth as I screamed in horror. No! She couldn't be my mother! She had become something else! I was eaten by that red skinned, four legged monster with countless holes in its body and countless maggots in its stomach.

I was quite tensed after the incident this morning, but when I saw vale awake this night, I was relieved that he was fine.

I went to him and looked at him, who was looking at me in curiousness. He had been properly washed and fed by me and Alice in the afternoon.

I took him to the balcony to get him some fresh air. He eyes squinted at first due to the lights, but started smiling when he saw our beautiful town. I couldn't help but tease him a little.

I was tickling him normally at first. He was smiling, but suddenly started crying and screaming loudly as if he was afraid of something. Was he afraid of heights?

I brought him inside, but he was already asleep. His breathing was stable and his heart pumped properly, but he just wouldn't open his eyes.

Doctors were called to check him, but nothing out of ordinary was found. Lionas was the most tensed during the whole time and couldn't sleep properly that night.

Valerious didn't open his eyes for an entire week after that. The best physicians of the kingdom were just denying of anything wrong with him. They were not guilty though, as I myself had checked his body and tried to heal him, but nothing worked.

His body functioned perfectly, as if he was just another child sleeping in his cradle. He was fed breast milk routinely from Christiana and excreted like any other child in his bed. It was just that he didn't open his eyes.

Time, passed by and we tried multiple methods to bring him back from his sleeping disease, but nothing worked.

Would he be awake if I hadn't taken him to the balcony that night? I started blaming myself for the cause of his strange sleep. In the end, I was just helpless.

One day, Valerious miraculously opened his eyes after sleeping for 2 years. He didn't understand what was happening and his memory was gone from a certain period.

He got up and tried to go down from his cradle, when he saw Christiana nearby. She was knitting beside him while humming to herself.

She had dark black circles down her eyes as if she hadn't slept properly for a long time. She looked tired from her facial expression.

Christiana paused her moments and looked at him when she heard a noise. Her eyes widened as she ran towards his cradle. She hugged and kissed him again and again as she started crying on the floor.

Though, the tears were the happy ones as she was relieved that he was finally back. She cried for a few more minutes before a maid noticed her. She shouted to inform everybody about how she saw young master awake.

Within moments, everybody got to know of the news. Lionas rushed to Christiana and took her in his arms to comfort and calm her down.

Lionas was happy, as his son finally came back from the unknown disease that put him in sleep. Everything became pretty much normal in the mansion after that, though, nobody could understand as to how he came back from his strange sleep.

I didn't know why such strange things were happening around me. I had a lot of questions in my mind like why am in the body of such a small child and why do I find myself in a room so luxuriously decorated.

I was just chatting with that mad old man, when suddenly, I found myself waking up beside a large female with white hair and eyes. She ran towards me which frightened me to no degree.

She took me in her arms and brought me closer to her mouth. I thought I was going get eaten, when she started kissing me all over and started sobbing.

After a few minutes, another woman nearby shouted something I couldn't understand. Judging by her costume, I assumed that she was a maid servant.

Soon, along with a few more servants, another person entered my vision. He had that distinct aura that separated him from others with red hair and eyes. He wore red clothes with a kind of crest that suggested he was a high ranking figure.

I thought that the red haired man was the villain of the story, but my assumptions were proven wrong when he hugged the white haired woman along with me.

After almost getting crushed by that red haired man, I was given some peace on the lap of the white haired woman. She seemed kindhearted and held me with care unlike that red haired man.

They started talking in a different language I couldn't discern. I didn't want to know why, but they looked quite happy from their body language.

My eyes wandered towards the windows and what I saw made me freeze for a moment. My eyes squinted without my realization when I saw the massive bright yellow ball in a canvas of blue.

Was this the sun that the old man used to talk about all the time? The sun was large ball of fire hung in the sky and its lights were the source of energy for plants.

When my eyes adjusted to the sunlight, I saw something else. What I saw was my reflection from one of the mirrors placed near the window. I gasped at my appearance.

My hairs were white and my eyes were red in color. Wait! Are they my parents? My theory was pretty much confirmed when I saw their appearance this time in more detail.

The fiasco of my new parents crying and talking in that unknown language ended after some time. During their conversation, I had noted some of the things.

First of all, my name was vale. My mother's name was Christiana and my father's name was Lionas. I remembered that the maid nearby with yellow eyes was called Alice when they ordered her.

After scrutinizing the people present in the room some more, I took a closer look at my body. I had seen what a newborn baby looked like from my days in the orphanage and I could tell that my body was a few years older.

Was I not born just yesterday? My series of thoughts paused when I realized a different possibility. What if I had possessed their child after a long time he was born.

My suspicions were further strengthened when I remembered how that white haired woman looked when I first saw her. Why would a woman cry when her baby wakes up? Why would the servants scream when their young lord just wake up?

Was I deceiving them? This thought rang in my mind several times until they came in the room. They didn't come alone though, they brought a lot of things with them.

There were around seven of them wearing white dresses. I didn't know if I was wrong in my assumption or not, but they were called doctors from the people already present in the room.

They came to me and looked me with pure curiousness. Their pockets had a different insignia than that of my father with two swords in a cross.
