Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Dance of the Wind

I gaped, watching as the woman, ShadowsInTheNight, unleashed a fury of wind against the Trouble. It was as if nature itself had sided with her. Invisible gusts struck the creature with incredible force, sending it reeling and staggering. The air around me swirled, kicking up leaves and dust in a dancing whirlwind.

The Trouble, which until recently had seemed invincible, now struggled to maintain its balance, its grotesque limbs flailing in vain against the invisible force battering it. It growled and howled in frustration, but it couldn't get close to the woman. She moved with surprising grace, as if part of the wind itself, her hands gesticulating as she directed the gusts with lethal precision.

I felt completely useless. Here I was, barely able to lift a few paper clips without tiring, while this woman unleashed elemental power with such ease. The fear I'd felt earlier returned, mixed with a pang of admiration. She was a Marked, just like me, but on a completely different level.

The Trouble tried to charge at her, running toward her with surprising speed, but she simply raised a hand, and a wall of invisible wind stopped it in its tracks, sending it crashing through the air with a dull thud. The creature fell to the ground, stunned.

"You can help too!" the woman shouted, her gaze never leaving Trouble. Her voice was firm and determined, despite the intensity of the situation. "Focus on something metallic! Use it!"

Her scream brought me out of my reverie. She was right. I couldn't just stand by and watch. I had to try. I looked around desperately, searching for something I could use. The nearby fountain had a rusty metal structure. It wasn't very large, but it was the only metal object of any size within my reach.

I closed my eyes and concentrated, trying to remember the feeling of connecting with the metal. I imagined the structure of the fountain, its weight, its shape. I extended my will toward it, with all my strength. I felt the familiar vibration in my hands, but this time it was more intense, more focused.

Slowly, with a rusty squeal, the top of the fountain began to shake. It was heavy, much heavier than the traffic pole, and I struggled to keep it in the air. But little by little, inch by inch, it rose from the ground.

I opened my eyes and saw the woman looking at me with an approving expression on her face. Trouble was standing up, shaking her head furiously. "Now!" she shouted.

With a supreme effort, I threw the top of the fountain toward Trouble. It wasn't as fast or as precise as the wind she controlled, but the weight of the metal was considerable. Trouble couldn't dodge it in time and was struck squarely in the side, falling to the ground with a loud thud.

The woman seized her opportunity. With a swift movement of her hands, she created a whirlwind that engulfed Trouble, lifting it into the air and sending it spinning violently. The creature howled in pain and confusion as it was buffeted by the invisible force.

Finally, with a final gesture, the woman threw Trouble against a nearby tree with brutal force. The impact caused the tree to shake and several leaves to fall to the ground. Trouble remained there, motionless. After a few seconds, its body began to fade away, just like the other one.

The woman turned to me, her breathing ragged but her gaze steady. "Well done, Ryu Hyuk," she said. "For your first time, it wasn't bad."
