However, compared to the multi-ton sub-nuclear weapons used by others, Robert's cannon was much more agile. While its power didn't reach a truly terrifying level, it was more than sufficient at this moment. Sitting firmly in the gunner's seat, Robert carefully began to aim. Glancing back at the thick barrel, Robert smiled faintly.
"If Fleming had this kind of equipment back then, I'm afraid he would have taken down Dongying in no time," he muttered.
"Fire!"
Boom!
Robert pulled the trigger, and a cannonball glowing with green light shot out. It was the crystallization of Robert's willpower, transformed through the Green Lantern Ring into a fearsome attack. The mere act of firing it unleashed a thunderous roar that echoed all around. Underground, the X-Men felt an intense buzzing in their heads as the shockwave rolled over them. They watched as a sudden spark exploded high in the sky.
It was as if a blazing fireball had detonated above, engulfing everything nearby in flames. Those once-mighty whale battleships stood no chance—they were shredded apart by the terrifying impact wave and consumed by the raging fire. The Chitauri soldiers in the sky fell like rain, plummeting frantically to the ground.
After the explosion subsided, thousands of Chitauri soldiers had been obliterated—nearly seventy to eighty percent wiped out in an instant.
"Holy shit, God!" someone gasped.
"What the hell was that?" Wolverine exclaimed, his voice trembling.
Logan stared blankly, clutching his chest as he gazed upward. What he saw made his breath catch—a figure in a red cloak and shining, ornate armor descending slowly from the sky. Behind him, countless flames flickered like a halo, giving him an almost divine appearance.
Robert floated down with ease, his cape fluttering gently behind him. The four X-Men could do nothing but gape at him, their faces filled with awe and disbelief—as if they were witnessing a god.
"Teacher, are you alright?" Robert asked with genuine concern.
"I won't die," Logan grunted. "But what the hell is going on with you, kid?"
Logan's expression was complicated. His mutant healing factor was powerful enough to let him survive even a nuclear blast. This kind of attack was just a mild annoyance to him. Moments ago, in a desperate bid to save him, Alanna had forcibly torn the barbed chains binding him. Thanks to his rapid healing, his wounds had already closed up. So, despite taking the hardest beating, Logan was actually in the best condition now.
But when he looked at Robert, his heart was full of questions.
"Wait... was that attack you just unleashed?"
"Of course," Robert replied nonchalantly. "I was worried about you and acted in the heat of the moment. I hope it didn't cause any trouble."
Logan's eyes widened. "How... how did you do that?"
He was filled with disbelief. Having lived for nearly two centuries, Logan had seen more than most. Among the mutants, few had more experience or knowledge than him. He had witnessed Magneto at his prime and encountered countless powerful beings. But what Robert had just done—wiping out thousands of Chitauri in an instant—was beyond anything he had ever seen.
And then there was that gleaming armor... and the ability to fly? Logan found himself struggling to reconcile this Robert with the young man he had known. He even felt a twinge of fear—was this really still Robert?
It wasn't just Logan. The remaining three X-Men were equally stunned, their faces full of confusion and shock. How had Robert suddenly become this powerful? They all knew he was talented, but this—this was on a whole other level.
His combat power had skyrocketed in just a day!
And his abilities… they made no sense. The X-Men couldn't understand them at all.
Under their probing stares, Robert simply smiled and shrugged. "Maybe my mutant ability developed some new functions."
The X-Men exchanged glances, speechless. None of them had ever heard of a secondary mutation like this. Mutants mastering multiple abilities was rare but not unheard of, often explained away as special cases. But Robert's powers? They completely defied explanation. It challenged everything they thought they knew about mutation.
Seeing their skepticism, Robert sighed helplessly. "Teacher, who can really predict the full extent of mutant abilities?"
At his words, the X-Men slowly nodded. As absurd as it sounded, Robert had a point. Mutant abilities could evolve in unexpected ways. Even so, they couldn't fully suppress the unease and awe that churned within them.
"Let's not dwell on this for now," Robert said, changing the subject. "Let me help you heal your injuries first. The Chitauri won't back off that easily."
As he spoke, Robert stretched out his right hand. The green light from his ring glowed brightly and washed over the group. A mysterious force enveloped them, and the X-Men were astonished to feel their wounds beginning to close. Storm and the others exchanged looks of pure astonishment.
Combat power was one thing, but healing abilities too? What else was Robert hiding?
This was no ordinary mutation—this was like awakening to ten different powers at once!
Faced with their slack-jawed expressions, Robert only smiled quietly. This was the true strength of the Green Lantern Ring. As long as one's willpower was strong enough, it could achieve almost anything. The ring's capabilities were limited only by the imagination of its user.
When it came to sheer combat might, the ring couldn't match the raw power of Superman's physique. But in terms of versatility, even Superman couldn't compete with the multifaceted abilities granted by the ring. This was the very definition of specialization versus generalization.
With Robert's help, the X-Men quickly regained their fighting strength. Cyclops stood up, looking down at his now fully healed chest, his face a mixture of relief and bewilderment.
"It's really healed..." he muttered, still trying to process the situation.
The battlefield had transformed completely. Where moments ago they had been fighting a desperate battle for survival, now they stood restored and ready, thanks to Robert's intervention. Even as flames still licked the skies and Chitauri corpses rained down, a sense of renewed confidence filled the X-Men.
Still, the questions lingered. What had Robert become? Where did this sudden surge of power come from? And perhaps most troubling of all—what limits, if any, did he have?
But for now, they had no choice but to set aside their doubts. The battle wasn't over, and they needed every ounce of strength they could muster.
As Robert floated slightly above the ground, his eyes flickered with determination. The green light pulsed around him, reflecting his unshakable will.
The real fight was only just beginning.e.)
