"Heh… That confidence of yours ends now," the masked duelist sneered, setting a card face-down. "I end my turn."

"Kneel before the greatness of the Sacred Beast!"

"Kneel? Honestly, you look like you'll drop to your knees any second," Hikaru Amagi shook his head, drew a card from his Deck, and smiled faintly as he revealed one from his hand. "I pay 1000 Life Points and activate the Spell Card—Instant Fusion! I Special Summon Thousand-Eyes Restrict!"

Thousand-Eyes Restrict – Level 1, DARK, Spellcaster, ATK 0

Hikaru LP: 4000 → 3000

If Uria is unaffected by Trap Cards, then he'd just use a monster effect instead.

"Ha!" The masked duelist suddenly flipped his set card. "Trying to devour Uria with Thousand-Eyes Restrict? Don't even think about it! I activate the Trap Card—Fusion Destruction!"

"When a Fusion Monster is Special Summoned: Return all Fusion Monsters on the field to the Extra Deck!"

Hikaru raised an eyebrow at the card.

"Wow. I actually feel sorry for that demon," Tiella mocked from the side. "Fusion Destruction? Isn't this guy from the Integration Dorm? Why's he using that?"

In this world, a duelist's mindset, ideology, and approach to cards influenced how they were viewed—by humans, society, even the spirits.

Fusion Destruction wasn't a rare card. Chazz Princeton had Super Polymerization Target Stealer types too.

But for someone who claimed to be all about Fusion, playing something that actively counters it? That stank of hypocrisy.

"With another Trap in my Graveyard, Uria's ATK increases again!"

Uria – ATK: 3000 → 4000

As the sacred beast grew more powerful, it looked even more tormented than before.

Hikaru shrugged, didn't respond to Tiella, just looked at his hand—and grinned.

Crowler had finally delivered.

He'd seen this card before, but today, he'd actually get to enjoy it.

"I activate the Equip Spell—Future Fusion!" Hikaru declared.

"By sending Fusion Materials from my Deck to the Graveyard, I can Fusion Summon a monster and equip it with this card. If this card is destroyed, the monster is too.

I send Ancient Gear Golem and Ancient Gear Knight to the Graveyard!"

"Steel knight—fuse with ancient colossus! Become the embodiment of mechanized fury!

Fusion Summon—Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem!"

Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem – Level 10, EARTH, Machine, ATK 4400

"Tch. Just gimmicks," the masked duelist scoffed. "Monsters summoned by Future Fusion can't attack the turn they're summoned. You're just buying time."

True enough.

"Turn end."

"My turn. I activate Pot of Greed—draw two cards." The masked duelist then pointed at his beast. "Uria, attack!"

"Pyro Pressure Blast!"

"Counter with Ultimate Gear Fist!"

Uria sucked in scorching air and unleashed a massive burst—but its 4000 ATK wasn't enough.

The golem's titanic fist slammed it out of the sky.

Masked Duelist LP: 4000 → 3600

"He… destroyed his own monster?" Tiella blinked, surprised by the suicidal play.

Hikaru nodded slightly. "So this Uria has that effect too."

In the original, Uria, Lord of Searing Flames could be revived from the Graveyard by discarding a Trap Card. Practically immortal.

But in the printed TCG version, that broken revival ability was gone.

And yet—this Uria had it.

"I activate Uria's effect! From the Graveyard, I discard the Continuous Trap Soul Resurrection! Return to me—Uria!"

"And now, with another Trap in the Graveyard…"

Uria – ATK: 4000 → 5000

"Hikaru Amagi, I know exactly what you're planning. You'll try to use Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem's overwhelming ATK next turn to take out Uria, then finish me with a follow-up for 4000 damage, right?" The duelist laughed bitterly. "I won't give you the chance. I set a card. Turn end!"

"Hikaru, this guy's doing everything he can to stall you," Tiella murmured, eyes narrowing. "He's clearly scared of you. Could we maybe bait him into destroying this?"

"Possibly. But I need to confirm something first."

Hikaru tapped his chin.

Even that revival… was nerfed.

Now he was nearly sure of it:

This Uria card wasn't the true one.

In the original canon, we saw this sort of thing—like when a designer from Industrial Illusions stole the prototype copy of The Winged Dragon of Ra Pegasus had kept.

By rights, the God Cards had vanished when the Nameless Pharaoh departed. But for research purposes, Pegasus had prepared copies. One of which got stolen and misused.

Forged God Cards, forged Sacred Beasts—this wasn't new. People had been trying to replicate those divine monsters for years. Most ended up cursed for the effort.

Those cards demanded a price.

In canon, God Cards couldn't be used by just anyone. The Sacred Beasts, likewise, couldn't be played just anywhere.

Their original wielder, Kagemaru, could only use them within the "Seven Stars Gate." Even though he could summon them and drain the life from every card spirit in the world, he was still confined.

That's why he tried a Shadow Duel with Jaden—to steal his power to control spirits and carry the Sacred Beasts wherever he pleased.

But now? This wasn't a Seven Stars Gate. And this card… wasn't authentic.

The haze surrounding the field—this must be a simulated field.

Even worse, Sacred Beast cards drained energy from spirits. The masked man was practically a corpse now—his body a husk, like ash waiting to be scattered.

Hikaru's turn.

He drew.

"I activate Continuous Spell—Flame Swordsman's Domain!"

Nice!

Watching from the trees, Kagurazaka couldn't help but cheer.

With Domain, Hikaru could summon Flame Swordsman, then use the effect to boost his Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem's ATK enough to destroy even Uria.

"I use Domain's effect! I discard Gem-Knight Crystal from my hand to the Graveyard—"

"Too naive, Hikaru Amagi!" the duelist snapped, flipping his Trap. "Trap Card—Dust Tornado!"

"Target one Spell or Trap your opponent controls—destroy it!"

"Say goodbye to Domain!"

"NOOO!" Kagurazaka screamed, rolling in the dirt. "It's over! He discarded the card—and Domain got destroyed before it could do anything! Now he can't summon Flame Swordsman! Worse—Uria's ATK increases again!"

Uria – ATK: 5000 → 6000

"Oh?" Tiella peeked at Hikaru's hand and grinned. "Just as I predicted. Hikaru, it's time to set that card."

"Mhm."

Hikaru took a card from his hand and Set it face-down.

"Turn end."

"HAHAHA!" The masked duelist drew and laughed—seeing the Set card, he looked revitalized. "What's wrong, Hikaru? Has Uria's power left you shaken and broken!?"

"Don't forget—Uria has a special ability!"

"Once per turn, destroy one Set Spell or Trap your opponent controls!"

"YESSS! He fell for it! He fell for it!" Tiella shouted from the sidelines, thrilled. "He's so eager to destroy, he didn't even wonder why you Set a card now!"

She hadn't played this duel herself, but she'd been actively analyzing every move. And when the opponent walked right into their trap—she couldn't contain her excitement.

Classic duelist mindset.

Hikaru calmly revealed the card from his Graveyard:

"The card you destroyed was a Normal Trap—Bluff Trap!"

"HUH?!"

"When this Set card is destroyed or sent to the Graveyard by your opponent's effect, I can Special Summon one monster from my Deck or Extra Deck!"

"NO!" the duelist's face twisted.

"YES!" Kagurazaka jumped to his feet, screaming in excitement. "It's Thousand-Eyes Restrict!"
