Chapter 37 - Chapter 36: Growth

It is common knowledge that the Byakugan of the Hyuga clan can perceive everything within a one-kilometer radius. This range is not the limit but merely the baseline upon activating the Byakugan.

With further development, the range of its farsight can be expanded. However, no matter how much it is honed, the Byakugan's reach for the Hyuga clan typically extends only a few kilometers to just over ten kilometers.

This is the intelligence compiled by various factions during the three Great Ninja Wars.

If it were Hiashi Hyuga making such a claim, Yūhi Kurenai would not have been surprised. As the head of the clan, surpassing the limits known in intelligence reports would hardly be shocking.

But Hinata? How old is she? Barely a month past her graduation, and her Byakugan can already see within a twenty-kilometer radius. What kind of prodigy is this? Has she shattered the Hyuga clan's ceiling?

Catching the shift in their expressions, Izayoi allowed himself a private smirk. It wasn't just them—even Hiashi Hyuga had been stunned by Hinata's progress. Izayoi, bearing the Ōtsutsuki bloodline (red), and Hinata, the princess of the Byakugan (red), were a pairing destined by fate.

When Izayoi revealed Hinata's potential, it was as if he had transplanted her eyes. With the aid of the Sage's Eye (red)—a catalyst for rapid growth—she had already undergone her first awakening.

For Hinata, whose bloodline had not yet reached the red tier, absorbing Izayoi's chakra was enough to unlock her latent potential and raise her limits.

Since the 58th year of Konoha, Hinata and Hanabi had begun to defy their fates. That was the year Izayoi awakened the unique ability of the Uzumaki bloodline: physical healing. After every training session, whether injured or not, Izayoi would have Hinata and Hanabi bite him to draw his chakra.

The chakra they absorbed not only mended their wounds but also sparked their hidden potential. Hinata's Byakugan, with its unmatched purity, showed the most dramatic changes.

Fresh from graduation, her farsight range had already surpassed Hiashi Hyuga's. At this pace, by the time Shippuden dawns, Hinata's kekkei genkai, the Byakugan, might ascend from purple to gold.

"What's wrong?" Hinata tilted her head with an innocent charm, puzzled by the astonishment on Kurenai and Shino's faces.

Kurenai steadied her emotions and spoke gravely. "Hinata, from now on, don't reveal the range of your farsight. If others find out, you'll become a target."

A main branch heiress with a Byakugan free of the Caged Bird seal, capable of seeing twenty kilometers—such a combination of value and threat would, if known to other ninja villages, land Hinata on black markets and assassination lists across the shinobi world.

"Yes," Hinata replied, nodding solemnly, though she didn't fully grasp Kurenai's warning.

"That range is incredibly reassuring," Kurenai said with a warm smile, ruffling Hinata's hair. "We'll be counting on you for the rest of the journey."

Aburame Shino quietly recalled the insects he'd sent out. Against such expansive farsight and clairvoyance, their sensory abilities paled in comparison.

And so, for the next leg of the journey, Hinata periodically activated her Byakugan to monitor activity within a twenty-kilometer radius.

Two days passed in this manner. During that time, Team 8 dispatched two bandit gangs and drove off another.

The steep mountain paths offered no alternative routes, and bandits or rogue shinobi familiar with the terrain would lie in wait at choke points. The only options were to take a lengthy detour or eliminate them.

Typically, bandits and rogue ninja steered clear of caravans guarded by shinobi. But some, either reckless or ignorant, chose to test their luck. The two gangs they eradicated fell into that category. Team 8 showed no mercy to such fools.

For their first kills, Team 8 felt a fleeting unease but quickly adjusted.

The academy had taught them how to counter genjutsu, and their instructors had exposed the class to illusions of bloodshed to prepare them. While some might still struggle, top students like Izayoi, Hinata, and Shino had long since overcome such fears.

On this day, after covering a few more miles, Hinata activated her Byakugan as usual to survey the twenty-kilometer perimeter. Suddenly, her expression shifted, as if she'd seen something unimaginable. "Everyone, stop!" she blurted out.

The caravan, forced to travel on foot with horses in tow due to the rugged terrain, halted immediately.

Kurenai's face grew stern. "Hinata, what did you find?"

"Yes," Hinata nodded rapidly, her voice tinged with panic and disbelief. "About seventeen kilometers ahead, there are two strangers. Their chakra is immense—far stronger than yours, Kurenai-sensei… overwhelmingly so."

Struggling to articulate the scale, Hinata resorted to comparing them to Kurenai to convey their danger.

Kurenai, unfazed by the comparison, pressed, "What do they look like?"

"They're wearing long cloaks and bamboo hats," Hinata described. "One resembles a scorpion, and the other is standing on a bird, flying low, as if searching for something."

Kurenai's expression darkened. She turned to Mr. Nishimura and the others. "Turn back now. We're changing routes. There are S-class missing-nin ahead."

"Hurry, turn around!" Mr. Nishimura shouted, clearly aware of the gravity of S-class missing-nin.

"So they're S-class missing-nin," Hinata murmured, a flicker of realization crossing her face.

Izayoi remained silent, but a white floral pattern had bloomed in his blue pupils.

His gaze pierced through the mountains, locking onto a point seventeen kilometers away. There, he saw two figures—one tall, one short; one airborne, one grounded.

They were exactly as Kurenai described: S-class missing-nin and members of the Akatsuki—Sasori of the Red Sand and Deidara.

Why are they here? What are they searching for? Izayoi wondered, watching Deidara survey the area atop his clay bird. His eyes then settled on Sasori, concealed within Hiruko, and a spark of inspiration struck.

To control puppets wirelessly with the Tenseigan, one must first master puppet-making. Puppet-making requires materials, and materials require money. Puppets… aren't there perfect ones right in front of him?

Minutes after the caravan rerouted, Izayoi excused himself to "use the bathroom" and slipped away. When he returned, it was merely a shadow clone brimming with chakra. His true self was racing toward Sasori and Deidara at breakneck speed.

Hinata, catching a glimpse of something amiss, glanced at Izayoi's shadow clone. It shook its head subtly, and she instantly masked her reaction, pretending nothing was wrong.

Seeing Izayoi head toward the two S-class missing-nin, Hinata felt no concern.

Through her Byakugan, she watched him flicker between body flicker dashes and bursts of flight, weaving through obstacles.

Having witnessed his mastery of gravity and repulsion, she doubted Deidara's clay bird could withstand a repulsive force strike. If Izayoi chose to flee, no one could catch him.
