Chapter 9 - Sage man

Hun: "Oi! Brats! All of you—get over here. I got a story to tell. A real one this time."

Nell (grumbling): "What is it, old man?"

Hun (grabs Nell into a headlock): "Respect your elders, you stupid brat! Come here!"

The eight kids gathered around the old knight in the cozy living room. It was night, the fire crackled softly, and outside the wind howled. Inside though, it was warm—and they knew when Grandpa Hun started a story, it meant something deep.

Hun (sighing): "Finally. Now huddle up, you little devils. I'm gonna tell you about a man… a man with many stories. His name was Jas—the Great Sage."

Zyroth: "Who? Is he still alive, old man Hun?!"

Hena (bonking Zyroth): "Shut up! Let Grandpa Hun talk!"

Hun: "Stupid brats… Anyway. Jas wasn't a knight. No, no. There are many classes in this world. He was a sage. He traveled the lands, meeting people, healing those cursed by chaos. People called him the Great Sage Jas. Powerful, but kind."

Zyroth (eyes wide): "So what happened to him?!"

Hun (voice dropping low): "He died… Seven years ago. Fought a man named Renos—a chaos vessel. Jas beat him… but got cursed in the process. A tragic end, really."

Nell: "Old man… what about this Renos guy? How did he get cursed?"

Hun: "Born with it. The curse consumed him. Drove him mad. Jas tried to save him… but in the end, he had to destroy him. And that battle… was so legendary, kids like you should never forget it."

One (leaning in): "Tell us! How did the fight go, old man?!"

Hun (smirking): "Alright. Listen close. This is how it all went down…"

Flashback: The Battle of Jas and Renos

Jas stood tall, his sage robes fluttering in the wind. His voice cracked with pain.

Jas: "Why, Renos?! I thought we were friends…!"

Renos, twisted and monstrous, lifted his cursed longsword.

Renos (roaring): "Shut up, Jas! I've been suffering because of you! You did this to me! I can't live in peace—you BASTARD!"

With a swing, Renos cleaved the earth—splitting it wide open for miles. The ground cracked like glass, a deep scar stretching six miles long.

Jas dodged, sweat pouring down his face. He whistled sharply—and from the sky, his spirit dragon descended, scales glittering like the stars. Jas leapt onto its back, lifting the battle skyward to spare the people below.

Renos growled, black wings sprouting from his back. With a burst, he shot into the air and landed hard on the dragon's back—bringing the fight to close combat.

Steel clashed against spirit. Sparks danced in the dark skies.

Jas summoned his Sage Dragon Mode, his staff glowing with ancient runes. Renos' cursed sword swung wide—but Jas dodged, spinning and blasting a dragon breath from his palm. The cursed knight flinched, caught off guard.

Jas (shouting): "All the people I met… I thought you had a kind heart, Renos! How could you curse your own people… your own village?!"

His anger surged. With a roar, Jas unleashed the Dragon Claw technique—shattering Renos' cursed armor, piece by piece.

Renos faltered. Jas, tears streaming, drove his hand through Renos' stomach—a clean hole, the end of their tragic bond.

But Renos, with his last breath, grabbed Jas by the chest. Dark energy seeped out.

Renos (grinning): "Go to hell… Jas…"

The curse transferred. Jas, screaming in pain, felt the chaos ripping through his veins. He couldn't contain it.

His final act—he sealed himself away, choosing death over becoming another vessel.

Back to Present

Hun (voice soft now): "And that's how it ended. Jas… forgotten by most. But not by me. I was there, kids. I sensed the chaos that day… and I vowed never to forget."

The kids sat in stunned silence.

Zyroth (quietly): "…That's heavy, old man."

Hun (smiling faintly): "Yeah. So remember—chaos isn't always born evil. Sometimes… it's forced on people. But that doesn't mean you let it consume you."

He looked directly at Zyroth.

Hun: "You got that, kid?"

Zyroth clenched his fists and nodded.
