Cherreads

Chapter 2 - The true monster.

That screech. Is the only warning me and my sister get. The hulking creature shooting towards us in a sonic boom. Fast. Almost too fast to react.

With a jolt, I move. My body's instincts kicked in way before my mind. I kick my sister away, twisting my body after the kick, and raise my knee to block the massive punch.

-BOOOOM!

The Shockwave that explodes from our collision is large. The wind whips everywhere briefly as I feel my shin ache in pain.

I don't get the time to acknowledge the pain in my leg before my entire torso is grabbed and held hard. I gasp as I feel the air leave my lungs. My ribs creaked under the strength of the behemoth.

Luckily Ursall doesn't hesitate to help. A heavy uppercut makes the thing release me as it's sent flying away.

Nodding towards my sister. Silently thanking her for the save we shoot toward it together. There's no room for hesitation on the battlefield. A lesson we were painfully taught by our Father.

The monster looks unharmed despite Ursalls heavy uppercut that I know would've slightly rattled me. Ok, so it's more durable than me. And by extension Ursall.

I punch out. My fist flung forward faster than the speed of sound. Meeting a raised forearm. In a movement so swift my eyes widen.

It's fast too. Easily reacting to my top speed. My fist hits the creature's raised guard. Ursall capitalizes on a small opening to land a kick to its large chest.

We then enter a deadly dance of close combat. Each punch, kick. Block. Makes the very air shudder in a casual display of superhuman strength by the three of us.

Ursall and I hold the advantage. The beast has not landed a single hit on us so far. But it shrugs off me and her attacks casually. Its durability is probably not much worse than that man's. We know it hurts it though because of the clear pained grunts escaping its disgusting maw.

But something worries me. Something I find disgustingly horrifying and an echo of my human past. After every exchange. Every clash. The thing seems to get more dexterous. Its reactions to our combined assault becoming more and more swift. It's adapting.

After a brief moment, I decided that offense was our best hope. Ursall and I entered a brutal series of attacks. For every time she blocks a punch. I throw a counter with brutal efficiency. No holding back, full force.

For every time I redirect a blow, Ursall goes for devastating moves like attempting to gauge an eye out or kicking the creature's disgustingly visible genitals.

We disengage after a while. My heart audibly beating in my head and ears as I feel sweat accumulating on my brow

"This thing is stronger than us. Our only hope is finding a weak point." I tell my sister. Who's face scrunches up?

"It's Resilience Reminds me of fathers." She mutters as I nod silently.

"Yeah, but if we punch him full force we'd hurt ourselves instead of him. This thing is close but not as durable as him." I respond. Before we turn our attention back to the beast.

Its chest rises and falls. It's red eyes staring at the two of us maniacally. Its sclera losing its black color. Slowly going white?

Its mouth opens as I raise an eyebrow.

"Why...?"

My eyes widen at the distorted voice. Tears slip from the eyes of the monster as it looks at the two of us in anguish.

"Why destroy my world... why destroy my people? Billions of innocents, were slaughtered by you in one cycle. For what?" It's words are choked. The whites of its sclera grow larger as I remain silent along with Ursall.

We maintain our stoic facades. The fire of the destroyed city blew black smoke into the atmosphere. I clench my bloodied hands.

The weight of things randomly hit me at the creature's words. Looking down at my hands I see green blood coating my fist.

The brutalized corpses of numerous bipedal fish-like creatures riddle the city's. Their forms vary by cause of death. Some burnt heavily. Likely when we flew over their cities at near-light speeds. Causing mini nukes through a bunch of scientific means I don't wanna think about.

Our purple skin. Our cold looks. The fire beneath us. The blood of innocents on our hands. To this thing. We are the monsters. Not the other way around. Despite its appearance. We are the disgusting beasts here.

My hands clench as I feel myself shaken. This whole time. I've been trying to justify my actions. For survival. For the right to live. But, are my actions truly justified?

I've claimed no less than billions of lives in my short 4 years as Onaan. Helping my father enslave or completely destroy advanced civilization after advanced civilization.

My siblings have excuses. No matter how bad they are. They were born and raised this way. Without morals. They didn't have any previous life before their birth. What they think they are doing is right.

Me? I have no such thing. I know what's right and wrong. I know that I'm bad. I know that I'm irredeemable scum.

If I were human, my body count would have me executed on the spot. I make the Nazi's genocide of the Jewish people look like a slight tantrum.

What's my excuse? What's my justification? I could've escaped my father easily. It's not like he could track me. From the moment I could fly. I could've left the empire.

Flew billions of miles away. Hell, fly to Earth. Ally with the traitorous prince and his son. Plan to take down my father on his mindless crusade.

But no. I joined my father's effort, slaughtered civilization after civilization, and killed billions of innocents.

I take a shaky breath. Is that all it took for me to break? One person questioned my actions. Is that what it takes to break my resolve?

I don't react. As the monster shoots towards me in fury. It's fist landing on my face as I'm sent crashing to the ground in a heavy explosion of dust.

Ursalls yell of shock as the ground beneath me craters. I remain still, blood spilling from my nose as I watch my sister fight the beast- no. The Avenger.

If two aliens slaughtered my people, with no remorse. And I had the power to fight them. I'd use every ounce of that power to kill them.

And that's exactly what he's doing. I stare blankly as my sister clashes with the Avenger. She's now being slightly overwhelmed without my backing.

It's for the best. At the least, I hope he makes it painless for her. A quick punch through the skull. Maybe.

My eyes drifted closed as I prepared for death. A slight smile on my face,

'Pathetic.'

My eyes shoot open at the voice. I sit up slightly, looking around warily.

'Is that all it takes? A pitiful creature asking why you slaughtered its pitiful people?'

The voice sends a shiver of recognition through my body. I know this voice...

'Hah! Looks like you recognize me mortal. That's right. I'm the one you met in the void. The man who sent you here.'

"What the hell do you want with me!? Why? Why send me here?" I question. My voice is shaky as I tremble in slight fear at the familiar aura of divinity.

'My reason for bringing you here is simple. Entertainment, the world you're in is fictional boy. You may be stronger than the original Onaan but you sure as hell aren't when it matters.'

"What do you mean? Fictional? Like those comics? I'm in a comic universe?" That explains so much. The familiarity in the universe, the random feeling of familiarity I'd get.

'Spot on boy. You were quite an avid fan of the universe you currently reside. That's why I took your memories. It's boring when someone knows the future plot.'

"I see," I speak aloud. My voice is blank as I watch my twin 'sister' engage in a deadly dance of life and death with the unknown abomination.

Am I really so pathetic. Needing a half passed reason to justify my horrific acts?

"No..."

Getting up from my down position. I growl. Envisioning myself in the monsters point of view. He's fighting for what he believes is right.

And now I'll fight for what I believe I have to.

The ground folds underneath my lags as I shoot into the sky. The familiar Crack of the sound barrier shattering accompanied my flight as I shoot thousands of feet into the air in less than a second.

'Oooo looks like someone's resolve isn't as weak as I initially thought. Have you come to realize what you are boy?' The familiar voice of clear divine origin amused lyrics asks in my head

"Yea. You're right, I'm pathetic. No more, I'll accept it." I growl as my fist slam into the chin of the beast just as it was about to land a devastating blow to ursall.

The punch breaks my knuckles. But I'm invigorated by the blueish green blood spilling from the beasts lip, a sick grin finding its way onto my face.

"Brother..."

Ignoring Ursall I look up at the form of the grotesque beast, the blood from its lip spilling into the air as I breath out.

"I'm the true monster here." I mutter to myself. My face twisted as I blast after the soaring form of the beast at speeds beyond my previous limit.
