Chapter 52 - Chapter 52: The Phantom Feathered Eagle

The Star Dou Great Forest stretched like a boundless sea of green, its ancient canopy rising and falling like the breath of a sleeping giant. Beneath the twilight sky, two figures made their way through the dense undergrowth: Qian Yu, calm as the still waters of a mountain spring, and Xuan Yi, trailing behind him in quiet deference.

As night fell, cloaking the forest in a shroud of indigo and silver, they stopped to make camp beneath a natural alcove of moss-draped trees. The hum of insects filled the air, mingling with the crackle of their newly kindled fire.

Xuan Yi broke the silence, his voice respectful but curious. "Old Ancestor, what kind of soul beast are we hunting this time?"

Qian Yu gazed into the dancing flames, his expression serene. "A hundred-thousand-year soul beast would be too much, even for the two of us together. This time, we aim for something just beneath that—between seventy and ninety thousand years. I'm confident we can manage at one of those levels."

Xuan Yi nodded. There were no outsiders here, no need for pretense. The fire's warmth flickered across their faces as they sat in silence.

Suddenly, the peace of the forest shattered. A guttural roar echoed from deep within the woods, followed by the thunderous stomping of something massive approaching through the trees. Leaves rustled. Branches snapped.

A towering soul beast burst from the underbrush—a colossal Millennium Giant Elephant, its thick hide rippling with muscle, eyes burning with primal rage. It had been drawn by the laughter and scent of humans.

Compared to its sheer size, Qian Yu and Xuan Yi looked like ants beneath a boot.

Qian Yu rose slowly, unfazed. "A mere thousand-year beast... courting death."

With a flick of his wrist, the earth beneath them began to churn.

BOOM—

Jagged spears of stone erupted from the ground in a violent surge, skewering the elephant in mid-charge. Its bellow of agony was cut short as it collapsed, shaking the forest floor.

The kill wasn't just practical—it was a warning. Though unseen eyes still watched them from the dark woods, no other soul beasts dared approach after witnessing the elephant's swift demise.

Later, Qian Yu carved off a thick cut of the elephant's leg and skewered it over the fire. The rich, gamey aroma of roasting meat filled the air. Xuan Yi stood guard, ever-vigilant, until Qian Yu—his tone light—tossed him a chunk of the cooked meat.

"You're not my servant," Qian Yu said, smiling gently. "No need to act so stiff around me."

Xuan Yi hesitated, momentarily surprised, before replying with quiet earnestness, "Understood."

After the meal, Qian Yu lay back and fell asleep with the ease of one who knew no fear. Even in sleep, his formidable spiritual awareness remained sharp, a silent guardian against any threat the night might hold.

Morning light filtered through the trees, golden and dappled. The pair continued deeper into the forest. Their goal—a soul beast older than seventy thousand years—lay in the heart of the Star Dou Great Forest, a region thick with danger and mystery.

Qian Yu walked with purpose, Xuan Yi at his side. Though a powerful Titled Douluo at rank ninety-two, Xuan Yi knew even he would be forced to flee from a true hundred-thousand-year beast. That knowledge weighed quietly in the back of his mind.

They passed many powerful beasts—fifty-thousand-year creatures prowled the edges—but none fit the specific threshold Qian Yu required. Then, without warning, pressure descended from the heavens like a tidal wave.

They looked up.

A massive shadow swept across the canopy, blotting out the sun.

A Phantom Feathered Eagle—majestic, terrifying—dived toward them, wings outstretched like a thundercloud. The sheer span of its wings must have been over ten meters, and it glowed with the aura of immense age and psychic power.

Qian Yu's eyes lit up.

"A Phantom Feathered Eagle," he murmured. "A spiritual-type soul beast... and a flying one. Eighty, maybe ninety thousand years old. Perfect."

Xuan Yi narrowed his eyes. "But it's a flying beast. I may be a Titled Douluo, but I have no means to fly. How do we hunt it?"

Qian Yu simply smiled.

Behind him, a pair of shimmering, translucent wings unfolded—Void Wings, his martial soul, elegant and ethereal. Three jet-black soul rings shimmered along his body.

"Fly with me."

His third soul skill activated: Flight Link—a rare ability that granted flight to another.

In a flash, radiant wings appeared on Xuan Yi's back. He staggered slightly, shocked.

"Go!" Qian Yu commanded.

Xuan Yi soared into the sky, his form steadying as he summoned his own martial soul—Xuan Dominance Blade. A massive broadsword materialized in his hands, gleaming with lethal intent.

From above, Xuan Yi summoned his soul power, which rained down in torrents of pressure. With a primal shout, he struck—his blade cleaving into the eagle's back with the force of an avalanche.

The beast screeched, reeling from the impact, but it did not fall.

"Amazing defense," Qian Yu muttered. "But let's test your limits."

He launched himself skyward, his weapon now in hand—Judgment Sword, a martial soul forged for annihilation. Wind blades howled around him as he slashed again and again, each strike swift as lightning.

Still, the eagle's defenses held.

Then Qian Yu's expression hardened. "Enough."

His left hand rose. Ice bloomed in the sky, encasing the eagle's wings. Earth magic followed—massive boulders formed midair and rained down. Then came fire. A flaming orb detonated above the eagle like a miniature sun.

BOOM—

The explosion lit up the forest.

"Old Ancestor—allow me!" Xuan Yi shouted, rising once more with renewed fury.

His sword screamed through the air with another devastating blow. This time, the Phantom Feathered Eagle howled in pain, its cry piercing the sky.

Qian Yu's eyes narrowed. It was faltering. Time to end it.

A final black soul ring lit up on his body.

Soul power surged, flooding into his blade.

"Soul Skill: Heaven-Earth Severance."

His blade now radiated an overwhelming power. Qian Yu flew above the struggling eagle and aimed for its neck.

With one clean, resounding stroke—

CRACK.

The battle was over.
