Death loomed heavy in the air, thick and inescapable. The once-defiant soul masters surrounding Qian Yu had begun to panic, but desperation sparked a final act of resistance.
"If we're going to die anyway, we might as well go all in!" one of the Soul Kings shouted, his voice cutting through the dread. "If we attack together, maybe we still have a sliver of hope!"
The others nodded grimly. In unison, they summoned their spirits—manifestations of their inner strength, taking form and color like constellations awakening in the sky before battle.
Weapon spirits glinted with steel resolve: axes, scythes, spears. Beast spirits roared into existence—tigers snarling, eagles screeching, wolves snapping their jaws. Rings of light—soul rings—flared in hues from soft white to crimson red and deep purple, circling their bodies like halos of power.
And then, with cries of fury and fear, they charged.
But Qian Yu did not move. He stood still, calm as still water before a storm. The ghost of a smile tugged at his lips.
He hadn't even summoned the Wheel of Reincarnation, his spirit. Yet in the blink of an eye, two of its soul abilities activated.
The world around them twisted.
A massive domain bloomed into existence, an unseen boundary that swallowed sound and light. Black and white energy spiraled through the field like twin dragons entwining—yin and yang in perpetual motion. A second spirit ability—Illusory Realm—cast its veil over their minds. At the same time, his soul bone technique, Soul Snare, anchored their thoughts.
Inside this realm, reality unraveled.
Every warrior's vision shimmered—friends blurred into foes, and the battlefield dissolved into madness. Screams erupted, but they weren't directed at Qian Yu. They were tearing each other apart.
Tang San, watching from a distance, felt his blood run cold.
"Teacher… what kind of spirit is that?" he asked quietly.
Yu Xiaogang—once calm, always analytical—stood frozen. His eyes were wide, disbelief etched into every line of his face.
"This… this is a domain," he finally whispered. "A legendary phenomenon… the pinnacle evolution of a spirit."
Tang San turned his gaze back to Qian Yu, stunned. "But a domain? Isn't that something only Soul Douluo and above can wield?"
"Yes," Yu Xiaogang said, still in shock. "One must perfect their spirit, master it beyond comprehension… and even then, only a handful ever awaken a domain. For Qian Yu to display this now…"
Tang San clenched his fists. His dream was to surpass Qian Yu. But at this moment, that dream felt impossibly far.
Even with his secret techniques of the Tang Sect, even with his hidden hammer spirit… would it ever be enough?
He lowered his gaze. I need to work harder. Much, much harder.
Meanwhile, chaos reigned within Qian Yu's domain.
The soul masters inside had fallen into savage hysteria, cutting each other down without hesitation.
"What's going on in there?!"
"Why are they fighting amongst themselves?!"
The instructors outside the battlefield watched, horrified. Xiao Zhantian could only gape, sweat pooling at his collar.
"Stop! What are you doing?! Kill Qian Yu, not each other!"
But his cries didn't reach them. The domain sealed everything away.
One of the warriors, eyes glassy and wild, stabbed a comrade through the throat. Another cleaved down a friend, mouth curled in a twisted grin. Madness overtook them all.
Tang San turned to Yu Xiaogang. "Is this… an illusion?"
"They've all fallen under it," the master murmured, voice tight. "Qian Yu's power… it's terrifying. What is he?"
Inside the domain, the massacre continued. Heads rolled. Throats were slit. And Qian Yu stood at the center, unmoving, watching the spiral of death unfold.
One by one, the soul masters died at his feet.
The last to fall were two Soul Kings—warriors who had outlasted the others. Blood-soaked and breathing hard, they turned toward Qian Yu, ready for a final stand.
But the yin-yang energy swirled tighter around them, binding them in place.
Qian Yu raised his spear, its tip gleaming with ominous light.
With a silent thrust, the spear struck forward—three times in rapid succession. Three resounding echoes followed.
Both Soul Kings collapsed into the red-soaked earth, their strength vanishing like mist at dawn.
Only Xiao Zhantian remained now, wounded and staggering, flanked by a few terrified guards who barely had the strength to hold him up.
Qian Yu began walking toward them, each step deliberate, his expression unreadable.
"He's coming!"
"Don't—don't come any closer!"
"I don't want to die!"
The guards broke.
Like deer fleeing a storm, they ran in every direction, abandoning their master.
"Where are you going?!" Xiao Zhantian screamed. "Get back here! Stop him!"
But fear outweighed loyalty. His voice vanished into the wind.
Qian Yu's eyes followed the runners, calm and cold.
"I told you," he said quietly, "I would wipe out the entire Xiao Clan. And now you think you can escape?"
He raised a hand.
Blades of wind lashed out, invisible and precise. The fleeing guards dropped one by one, throats slashed by the storm's edge.
Qian Yu stopped just before Xiao Zhantian.
The older man stared up, wild-eyed. "You… what are you?!"
Qian Yu offered a faint smile, neither cruel nor kind. "Just a student of Nuoding Academy. If you hadn't provoked me, you'd all still be alive."
"I warned you before—bother me again, and I'd destroy the Xiao Clan."
"You didn't listen."
Xiao Zhantian's soul power surged. In a flash of light, a giant shadow wolf leapt toward Qian Yu, snarling.
"I'll kill you!" he roared.
But Qian Yu was faster. His spear shimmered black at midnight.
With a swift, merciless strike, the blade pierced Xiao Zhantian's heart.
The light vanished from his eyes.
Qian Yu leaned in, voice like falling snow. "You're dead. And next… is your beloved City Lord's Mansion."
Xiao Zhantian's breath hitched. Blood poured from his lips.
And with one final gasp, he collapsed.
