Chapter 24 - Murals!

While Su Mo and the others were still inside the tomb, another conspiracy was unfolding in Jiangnan City. The female assassin, who had entered the country disguised as a blond foreign man, was finally ready to implement her plan. After days of careful preparation, she started the assassination of He Xiong.

She had created a colourless and odourless pill, cleverly disguised as a condiment. Harmless on its own, it enhanced the food's flavour without leaving a trace or causing any immediate effects.

In the morning, she disguised herself as a store clerk and approached He Xiong's wife, skillfully recommending the condiment. Later, she staged a chance encounter with He Xiong's mistress and sold her a bottle of perfume. Very fragrant, alluring, and seemingly innocent…?

Although individually, the condiment and perfume posed no threat. But once both substances enter the human body, they combine into a lethal poison.

And yet, the poison was only one part of her plan. Her true purpose was to frame someone for He Xiong's murder. Once she confirmed that He Xiong's wife had used the condiment to prepare lunch, she activated the next phase of the mission: setting up the intended scapegoat, following her assignment.

Now, with the poison working silently and the trap laid to work, He Xiong was doomed to die within twenty-four hours, regardless of the method of dying.

At the same time, the shopping street, near Jiangnan Western Park.

Ye Chen, after a series of 'coincidental' incidents, successfully won the favour of a beautiful woman named Su Roxue. Who, by 'sheer coincidence', turns out to be Su Menghao's cousin.

"I didn't expect Miss Su to be President Su's cousin." Ye Chen said in a surprised tone.

"Hehe~ I also didn't expect Mr. Ye to be an employee at my sister's company. With a reliable person like you, the security of the company would be very good."

"Miss Su is polite." Ye Chen smiled on the surface. While inwardly, he was sneering. 'Just wait to get on my bed, along with your sister. I'll let you experience my awesomeness!' He was barely suppressing himself from showing his lustful nature, so as not to arouse Su Roxue's disgust.

"Not at all."

Unaware of his true nature. Su Roxue said, showing her cute teeth. She wasn't being polite at all, that's what she really thought.

She was still in a state of shock when she thought of Ye Chen's exaggerated fighting ability. He took down those five tough-looking hooligans within a few seconds.

It was much more exciting than how it's shown in movies. In this way, Ye Chen and Su Roxue had a great chat.

After asking, Ye Chen learned that Su Roxue was going to meet her sister in the evening after shopping and playing around a little. So, he accompanied her in the name of protecting her. Su Roxue thought about it and agreed. Anyway, she was feeling a little bored alone.

After her friend changed her plans at the last moment, she was already considering whether to go back. Now she can have someone to accompany her shopping and protect her at the same time. Which was a double happiness deal.

Back in the tomb.

Su Mo looked at the rattling sarcophagus and scratched the back of his head in annoyance.

"Shut up!"

While shouting, Su Mo also activated his special technique; Magnetic Control! Then, no matter how hard those dirty things inside the sarcophagus struggled. They couldn't move the metal lid of the coffin.

"Just lie there for now! It's not the time to wake up yet."

Nonsense, these things are here to cause trouble for Ye Chen. How could he damage them?

Su Mo's set of actions dumbfounded Yang Qingxi and Zhang Xulin. After seeing that he didn't even give those things a chance to enter the stage, their lips couldn't help but twitch.

'Is this the feeling of exploring a tomb while having an overpowered cheater on your team?'

Although they complained inwardly. Their faces were full of blooming smiles. No way, they skipped most of those dangerous traps like a breeze. Why should they be dissatisfied? They aren't that adventurous, okay?

Su Mo looked at the sarcophagi at the centre of the room, then at the walls. Finally, he opted to see the murals before going further.

[I wonder if the murals are any different from how it was described in the novel.]

Yang Qingxi and Zhang Xulin followed suit.

---

The murals depicted a man leading an army into battle against another, as soldiers surged behind him under banners torn by the wind. Opposing him was another force, equally large, their armour darker, more chaotic in design, as if symbolising disorder or rebellion.

In the next mural, the conflict had reached a small village nestled between mountains. One army formed a protective circle around the villagers, weapons drawn and shields raised. The other army, with darker armour, launched a brutal attack, with arrows raining down and homes already beginning to smoulder. The expressions of fear and defiance on the villagers' faces were rendered with heartbreaking clarity.

The following image was a scene of total devastation. A massive fire raged across the village, its flames painted in sweeping strokes of red, orange, and black, consuming trees, homes, and even mountaintops.

Smoke coiled into the sky like serpents. Below the inferno stretched a field of corpses—men, women, and children—piled without distinction. The horror was visceral, almost overwhelming.

At the centre of the final mural stood the man from before. His armour was scorched and battered, the crest broken. He held a long sword dripping with blood. Behind him, shadows took the form of spirits or memories… perhaps of those he had lost or slain. The murals seemed not just to depict war, but to tell a tale of transformation, sacrifice, and the heavy burden of leadership.

All three of them were collectively silent after watching the murals. Su Mo and Yang Qingxi had a more intuitive feeling after watching these murals in person compared to reading the description.

"It looks so… heartbreaking…" Zhang Xulin took a deep breath and murmured. She glanced at Su Mo and asked in wonder.

"Could that village in the picture be Tianzai Village?"

"Who knows…?" Su Mo answered with a lost expression. Although he knows the answer, he didn't intend to tell her for now.

The same goes for Yang Qingxi, who didn't respond to Zhang Xulin's question and continued observing the murals with a deep expression.
