Chapter 18 - What Is Your Name?

There was no telling what had happened, but this would no doubt affect how the goblins did business because there had been a breach of trust.

This was the one thing no kingdom attempted because it would affect their dealings with the goblins.

Not to mention, the goblins were once a menace in the past that were primarily focused on violence and sex.

This deal benefited everyone in the end, but there was a primary shift in how things were dealt with here.

Byung had been informed of the attack, and the only thing on his mind was: why did it take so long? This was something he expected to have happened because the goblins were defenceless and couldn't put up much of a fight in that regard.

They were weak and small. Byung had no idea how advanced the outside world was, but there was no doubt they must have used those resources much better than the goblins.

Byung noticed the goblins weren't equipped to handle this sort of situation—especially Murkfang—but luckily, they had him.

This was his chance to make his mark and show them he was more than just an inventor.

Murkfang broke the news to him and disappeared soon after to handle more urgent matters,

but not before telling Byung what his task was. He wasn't going to be mining like the rest of the goblins.

No, he was going to be in charge of medicine and its creation so it would grant the goblins an edge because their death was something that had become common, especially under these circumstances.

This was part of the reason they had undergone this promotion ceremony—it was because of their dwindling number.

Byung couldn't help but note the coincidence when this happened, as it happened right about the time he got promoted.

If somehow it was connected to him, then he needed to know everything he could about this attack.

Byung took a deep breath; he had to calm himself, otherwise things could potentially get out of hand.

Gribnox soon entered the room, and Byung instantly readjusted his body language.

He looked better than the last time he saw him, but that could partly be because of his mood being lifted.

"Hey boss," Byung immediately greeted him with a friendly smile because he knew this one was still on the fence about him.

"Hello, 402. Have you been given a name yet?" Gribnox asked, but there was no hint of malice in his voice.

"A name?" Byung repeated, but it dawned on him that these had names while they were referred to with numbers.

"Yes, we give those who have gained a promotion. You're more than just a number now," Gribnox said, almost reassuringly.

"That is good to hear… Can I pick?" Byung asked, but Gribnox was confused by this request.

Why would he wish to pick his name when he only knew a few? This was the first time a goblin had asked this, once again showing Byung's abnormal behaviour.

He smiled and, for the first time, felt curiosity as to what this goblin would want to name himself.

"And what name would you like?" Gribnox asked, and Byung took a deep breath first.

"Byung. I would like to be called Byung," Byung said, but this was a shock because there was no goblin named this. So if Byung heard a name he liked from one of his superiors and thought it would be a fitting name for himself, he would understand.

But this name sounded foreign. It sounded human, and Byung was no human.

However, Gribnox wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed and didn't make the connection.

"Byung it is!" Gribnox responded with a wide smile on his face.

Byung had perceived him wrongly—this wasn't the kind of person he thought he was, but it was a good look nonetheless.

A knock was heard at the door soon after, and Gribnox turned around to respond.

"Who is there?" Gribnox questioned, and a voice came from behind the door.

"It is Borkle," the goblin behind the door revealed, and these names sounded silly to Byung.

"Borkle? What do you want?" Gribnox questioned.

"Murkfang has asked me to get you. It appears you have a guest," Borkle said, and Gribnox hoped it wasn't Drekk.

Drekk was terrifying and the only person he never wished to see in his lifetime. But if there was a threat threatening the goblins,

Drekk was an ally he was glad to have because there were a few goblins that preferred the old way of doing things—and that was taking what they wanted forcefully.

"I guess I will be seeing you around… Byung," Gribnox bid him farewell and left the room.

-

"Who is here?" Gribnox was quick to ask Borkle, but the goblin was hesitant to answer this question.

"It is an orc, sir," Borkle revealed.

"An orc?" Gribnox repeated, clearly confused because there was no prior notice, which meant it was impromptu.

"Y-Yes sir, I'm in disbelief as well…" Borkle responded, but Gribnox wasn't worried because he had Murkfang to deal with him.
