"What's she doing upstairs now?" Gilbert asked darkly, his face stormy and his tone laced with cold fury.
Mike chuckled. "She's not here. Probably got scared last night and stayed home to take care of the kids."
"So you're quite familiar with her home now, huh?" Gilbert asked in a low, threatening voice. "Where is she living these days?"
He already knew from a previous investigation that she had moved.
"Not at all. I came early this morning precisely because I don't know where she lives. I just wanted to check if her son was frightened by what happened last night," Mike quickly explained, looking distressed.
"Hmph." Gilbert snorted coldly. "Women like her aren't worth helping. I saved her son last night, and she didn't even say thank you. Worse, she coached her son to tell the criminals he was my child, absolutely outrageous."
