Chapter 39 - Rein

Danso looked beneath Karkous's wings to notice that the water changed color, alerting them that they were getting closer. There was a river that connected Rein and Akuza, so that's how the water currents became a key factor in deciding how far they were. Following the currents was like following an arrow in a video game, the arrow would take you to your destination. Danso rested up with Natsuki, healing him as much as she could, as he thought he had to be as prepared as he could, since they never knew when a surprise attack or an ambush would occur. Sure, Natsuki could fight, but her strengths were never physical; they were mental.

She was the brain they could always rely on or trust, and she was also the best doctor in Akuza. No one could heal as efficiently as Natsuki, and no one could heal as quickly as her, aside from Chiro, who could just plainly regenerate, and Xeno, who could just replace his lost body parts. To sum it all up, Danso thought he was lucky that a genius like her could help him out whenever he needed.

At night, they managed to reach Rein, with the city lights shining brightly like a star in the dark sky. There were multiple towers surrounding the city like pillars of a castle. As soon as Natsuki Danso and Karkous crossed the border and reached Rein's territory, Karkous was grabbed by a net and dragged towards a tower.

Danso petted Karkous, urging it not to fight the net as it could lead them into bigger trouble. They already crossed the border without permission so to avoid anything once they reached a tower and landed on the tower, Danso recalled Karkous while Natsuki went to talk with one of the guards about their situation, while Danso waited at the side since he could not formally talk and convince the guards and that was a well-known fact. As Danso waited aside, a floating soul slime came through the balcony and dissolved into Danso's ring while giving a letter to him.

"The Black Market is going to be in Rein this year. I guess they are idiots since how would they do any Dark Auction in the Capital of the Military of Lukia, but that's what my sources are saying. The Black Market is important since that's where I will get most of my information. I will give you more details later."

Danso stared at it, and a guard started to approach him, but Natsuki stopped him in the middle of his path. He quickly crushed the letter threw it down the tower, and burnt it, leaving behind no evidence. Then, he started whistling while enjoying the cool night breeze, acting as if he were an innocent pure child.

"Excuse me, I have to check what that man just did," said the guard.

"I am sure it's nothing, please step out of the way," said the guard.

Natsuki did not budge, and the guard tried to push her out of the way, but Natsuki still did not budge. The guard did get embarrassed that he could not push a normal citizen aside so he asked politely one last time.

"I said step aside," said the guard.

"He did nothing," replied Natsuki, pointing at the bored and lying Danso.

"If nothing is going on, why did a green floaty blob come towards him, and what did it give him? My right as a guard gives me the authority to check it!" exclaimed the guard.

Natsuki agreed with the guard's reasoning and moved aside.

The guard quickly approached Danso. Meanwhile, Danso was just relaxing, stretching, and whistling. The guard snapped his fingers, diverting Danso's attention towards him.

"Yes?" asked Danso.

"I've seen that green blob. What is it?" asked the guard.

"What do you mean green blob?" questioned Danso.

"Don't lie to me, I know there is some animal here," said the guard.

"Do you have any evidence?" said Danso with a slight smile forming on his face.

The guard paused for a minute and asked again.

"If it is something harmful to this great city, my eyes are enough now tell me what is it?"

Danso did not say anything and just shrugged. The guard lost his temper and slapped Danso in the face. Danso paused for a moment before unsheathing his sword and igniting it. He swung the blade at the guard and purposely missed making the stone tower floor scarred. The guard now was enraged and tried landing a punch on Danso but he was held back by other guards.

"See you can't even fight me like a man you have to be saved by my fellow guards and that woman there like a coward," said the guard.

Danso ran towards the guard and punched him in the face and then was dragged back by Natsuki.

"Now we are even," said Danso to the guard, both of them struggling to get out of people who were holding them both from fighting.

"How did they even let a weapon in here? Quickly confiscate the sword!" said another guard.

One guard went and took Danso's sword from his tight grasp and placed it on a table far away from the angry guard and Danso.

"Let me go Natsuki please," said Danso.

"I am not Emily or Tensei to let you go and join the fight, what will happen if you anger the entire city of Rein? If you anger the guards you anger the whole city!" stated Natsuki.

Danso calmed down and recollected his thoughts. Then, hearing the ruckus a medium height man covered in battle scars and the most muscular man Danso had seen walked up to the tower. His face was also covered in some battle scars with his left eye not working and a scar that closed it. All the guards instantly saluted at his arrival.

"You guys made a ruckus at night?" asked the man in a deep gruffed rough voice.

"He punched me first," said Danso, rebelling.

The man looked at Danso and instantly activated his soul energy. His glare was so frightening that it forced many guards to shiver and tremble. Even Danso was feeling slightly scared and a drop of sweat formed on his face, but Natsuki on the other hand was not feeling anything. The man looked at Natsuki who was unscathed.

"This one interests me," said the man.

"Who are you?" asked Natsuki.

"I am the man that you idiots were entrusted to by Chiro," said the man.

Natsuki then frowned and realized.

"Takahashimi," said Natsuki.

"Correct," said Takahashi.

Danso looked at both of them and Takahashimi went for Danso's sword. He picked it up and threw it at Danso suddenly. He quickly dodged it and grabbed the sword that clattered to the ground.

"What was that for?" asked Danso.

"A test you're not completely useless after all," said Takahashimi.

"What do you mean?" asked Danso.

"You dodged it, that's it, now follow me I will take you to your colleagues," said Takahashimi.

The guard who was angry from before went towards Takahashimi and tried to convince him that Danso and Natsuki were dangerous. Takahashimi merely smiled and told him that he would take care of it. The guard frowned and walked away in anger yelling to himself.

Takahashimi took Danso and Natsuki to the city of Rein or the Capital of Military. The city was covered like an eggshell and a yolk, with the walls and pillars of the city being the eggshell and the actual city the yolk. It was very technologically advanced as there was an iron roof that could close the entire city if there were any emergencies. That's how they were able to escape the bombings.

Along with that, Takahashimi is a person who Chiro respects a lot. When Danso was training his body, Chiro explained to him that when it comes to physique and pure physical strength there is no one stronger than Takahashimi. So Danso looked at him a lot more seriously and wanted to learn things from him.

Eventually after crossing streets, the city of Rein looks nearly the same as Akuza, Takahashimi stopped at a hospital and told Danso and Natsuki that they arrived at their destination. Both of them took a deep breath and walked in. Takahashimi told them both that he cannot be with them since he had some work with the President missing. Danso and Natsuki thought it would be best to keep the secret of Chiro sealed and the President's death for now.

Once inside they both saw Emily in her respective room and walked inside. Natsuki spoke to her for a while and Danso listened to their conversation and after sometime, Natsuki went to go check on Tensei and Haruki's condition and to help out the doctors.

They were now both alone and the room was very awkward.

"Hello Danso how have you been?" asked Emily trying to stir up a conversation.

"Who could be fine after the recent events?" asked Danso.

"True," said Emily.

There was something wrong with Emily, her voice was breaking up and she did not look into Danso's eyes. He took a clearer look at her and saw her crying. Danso went to comfort her and gave her a pillow to hold onto. Emily started to break down crying and blaming herself for the incident in Jale stating that she should have done better. Danso, hearing this, replied "You did your best and we are all happy you're safe. You should just rest now. I mean even crying takes up a lot of energy," He gave Emily the brightest grin he could to cheer her up. Then suddenly, Ozamu walked into the room.
