Chapter 36 - Chapter - 34 The weak-willed (5)

-Sun-Stone empire → H-Rank battle ground Eastern sector {Frost glade wood's} -

The sun figure sagged within the sky, dawn was approaching the wind's fierce gales had weakened, and the glistening heat had cooled. The blue tapestry of the horizon was complemented with a varied array of scarlet, and golden hues making for a pleasant sight.

The sun's light was soon to be extinguished as the night's constant rebirth would arise, varnishing the daily cycle of night and day.

The common denizens of the vast human domain were to soon be at rest. Yet, within the ranked battle zones sleep and rest were pleasantries that seldomly came.

Constant vigilance was essential for survival, an ambush or attack from enemy fiends was always common to arise during the most untimely of situations.

–Whoosh!

A man cladded in black maneuvered across the obstacle of densely packed branches.

The temperature was bone-piercingly cold, and negligible light filtered through the cluster of leaves, and branches from the glades roof.

Swiftenign his pace, the black-cladded man had finally arrived at his destination.

With a series of practiced movements, the man gingerly descended from the large spire of wood and onto the woodland floor.

From his descent, the man swiftly ran towards the center of the meager-sized scouting camp established within an isolated region within the large frosted scape of frosted pines.

Each soft step onto the soft bed blue bladed grass yielded towards the man's heart to prevert from its once constant speed.

Combined with the natural nuance of the glade's freezing temperature leeching onto the little warmth the man had left, the Black-cladded man's breath soon receded to nothing more than shallow short spurs.

The man's walk felt inexplicably long though the distance was only twenty or so feet.

His long/short walk soon ended as he was faced with the smooth metallic coverings of his superior officer's lodging.

Phew,

Mustering the limited courage he had, the black-cladded man warranted his presence to his superior as he carved a complex array of symbols onto the cloth's surface.

"Enter…"

Came a gruff voice from within the metallic tent.

Walking through the liquid metallic exterior the Black-cladded man was met with the bland spectacle of his seniors' decked quarters.

The deck's layout held a meager personality and was kept strictly organized. Stacks of printed copies were neatly spired along the borders of the superiors' cheap metal desk.

Though his own personal strength was on par with his superior officers it was the fact that the man in front of him was a wolf, a cunning bastard who killed plenty just to reach his current small standing position.

"Senor,"

Voiced the the black-clad individual, his features of black hair and dim crimson eyes were now discernible.

"Make it quick,"

Responded the superior with a bleak natural sounding tone.

"..A scout reported a disturbance within the number of Gallows within the western sector." The black-cladded man said.

"The Gallows?.." the ice-haired superior mused.

"Yes sir, the report mentioned that a group consisting of cold weapon users has been causing pandemonium within the population of the Gallows we had stationed."

Hearing this the Ice-blue haired man's demeanor stayed stoic with only indifference etched onto his facial features.

"What were our losses,"

Replied the superior.

"14 of our nurturing ranked Gallows were purged,"

With this information, the Ice blue-haired man closed his eyes as slowly both tips of his face tugged upward.

The senor's face broke out into a skin-piercing grin of hidden rage.

"Normally I would allow such a disturbance to pass…"

Opening his eyes revealed two frenzied bloodshot eyes.

The man's silver-gray pupils were dilated and quivered.

*Chreek*

"But… this small purge of beasts is going to negatively affect my evalve!"

"7 damn months of tediously watching over those revolting creatures within this fucking damn forest!

"The constant nuance of the frigid cold is beginning to wane towards my patience.

"I.., NO you bunch of deplorable rotten bastards are responsible for this!!"

"Why didn't that measly scout report sooner!"

The ice-blue-haired man's attitude had shifted from one of total indifference to that of a crazed one that possessed little rational.

"I'll appeal to a decision…"

-Bang!

-thump,

The final grotesque figure had fallen from the altitude of the woodland's dense branches.

From its diseased figure, a blackish-brown murky tar pooled, a resounding sizzling noise began to emit from the Gallow.

Grimacing towards the Gallow's now fallen figure Alex swiftly stashed his handgun back into its holster.

Stretching his back Alex spoke.

"Well we've eliminated them all, but…"

"Leo, I removed the last 4 essence shards, you know what to do"

Casting a fleeting scrutinizing gaze of discontent towards Alex, Leo walked towards the dead beast and began to dress its innards.

Sickly noise emanated from the beast's degrading corpse during the process.

–scrunch

–ptchh

'Only if I had a system...'

Alex thought in melancholy.

"Retrieved the essence shard,"

Snapping out unhealthy self-deprecating pity, Alex responded in a now revitalized tone.

"Good, anyway let's head back to camp."

Not waiting for a response from Leo, Alex prompted his body into a sprinting stance before immediately breaking out into a swift sprint.

Stashing the essence shard into his runshack Leo replied with a curt nod before sprinting towards their receding path towards the H-ranked camp.

With constant maneuvering through the dense crowing of ambient woodland, Alex narrowed his eyes and crudely manipulated a smidgen of prana so that it seeped into his ear canal.

Using the prana within his ear as a medium, Alex was able to heighten his sense of auditory perception.

–Swoosh!

–Swoosh!

With Alex's heightened auditory perception, the distant rushing noise of the foreign adversaries of the Sun-Stone empire swiftly moving along the passage of clustered trees became resoundingly loud.

The camp is planning an unwarranted siege of the Sun Stone empires, though I wasn't informed of such information, I was able to piece together as much. The negligible seemingly trivial measures they seem to have been taking. Sleep times had decreased by an extra half hour, ration size had lessened in size, and The little favor quality it had before was extinguished.

The total aggression between individuals had increased rapidly since these changes, at first I neglected such tail-tail signs rather opting to believe they were merely measures used to discipline soldiers until I began to notice an influx of supplies from out of camp beginning to be sent to the armory.

With this mentioned I will die if I join such a battle.' Alex sighed
