Charles couldn't believe his ears.
Kaira, head bowed and still clutching the water bucket to her chest, had said something that completely threw him off.
"Whether it's true or not… I wouldn't mind if you did."
'What?' he thought, blinking rapidly as he tried to process her words. 'Did Kaira seriously just say that? Or am I hearing things now?'
He stared at her, waiting for her to look up and say it was a joke, that she was just playing along with Asriel and his friends' absurd lie.
But Kaira wouldn't meet his eyes.
Her black hair still veiled her face, and her hands gripped the bucket so tightly her fingertips were white.
'Does this body not only refuse to fight when I want, but now it's making me hear wrong too?' he thought, heat rising to his face. 'No way a girl like Kaira would say something so… embarrassing, right?'
The idea was ridiculous.
Absurd.
Impossible.
