Chapter 17 - 17. Second Wife.

The moment Austin and the girls went deeper into the garden, Mira smiled and slowly walked away from the garden gate.

Initially, she had come to check up on Lina because she knew how worried her sister had been about the fourth prince's sudden disappearance over the past few days.

However, Mira didn't expect the prince to return to the palace with Lily as his retainer.

Mira could tell that Austin had done this to reunite Lily and Lina, and now she could finally understand why her sister was slowly falling in love with the fourth prince.

And to be honest, even she had been curious about the fourth prince as well.

Ever since Lina had pulled her into the bathroom a few days ago to tell her all about their husband, Mira had been curious to know more about Austin as well, but she never could have imagined that Austin would be kind enough to do what he did.

Just like Lina, Mira had been worried about Lily and what had happened to her household.

However, there was nothing she or her parents could have done about it because, with the rumors swirling around the Han household, other nobles and aristocrats were constantly watching their every move.

So, if Lord Han were to make any sudden move to try and free Lily or any of her relatives, it would have drawn the attention of those nobles who might then try to get to Lily, just to spite the Han Household.

Also, since their lands had been seized, House Han no longer had the financial power to free Lily even if they wanted to, and this had been bothering the twins for some time now.

So, when Mira saw that Austin had freed Lily, she couldn't help but be deeply grateful for what he did.

'Oh well, I guess it's time to return to my training,' Mira thought to herself as she hastened her steps towards the training room.

Although Mira could have easily stayed behind and joined Lina and Lily in listening to Austin's stories, she couldn't because, unlike Lina, Mira didn't dare to sit beside their husband and talk about stories they had all heard or read about.

Also, Mira wasn't a girl who was interested in stories, so she wouldn't even have anything to say if she decided to hang out with Austin and the girls.

Although it would have been a great chance for her to bond with her husband, since she couldn't do it, Mira would rather focus on her sword training instead.

'But… if His Highness were to have an interest in swordsmanship, just like me... maybe we'd be sparring together right now..' She thought.

'It's a shame His Highness doesn't use his training room.'

Based on the rumors she had heard about the fourth prince, Mira knew her husband would probably never accompany her to train, but she didn't mind that because she was satisfied with being the only one training hard to hone her skills.

Mira knew she wasn't as graceful as her sister or as pretty as Lily, but she was determined to do her part as Austin's wife.

And this was why she had been training non-stop since she arrived at the palace.

'It's been seven days now since we got here,' Mira noted as she reached the training room.

'This means we only have seven days left before His Highness follows us back to the Jade Swallow Estate. But that doesn't mean our journey back will be easy, as I'm sure His Highness will become the target of assassins.'

'They could be sent by his brothers or any other noble who is trying to garner favor from any of the other three princes.'

'And that's why I need to be prepared for anything.' Mira said determinedly to herself as she grabbed a wooden sword, and tightened her grip on it.

She knew she had to train harder so that she would be able to protect her husband.

As a noble's daughter, Mira had heard plenty of rumors about how Austin's older brothers were all eager to succeed their father.

She knew how desperate the three brothers were for the throne and she had heard several rumors about the fourth prince being the least likely candidate to succeed the throne.

But even though Austin was less likely to claim the throne, Mira knew his brothers would still see him as a threat.

As long as he was alive, they couldn't ignore him.

Hence why they would want to eliminate him at the first chance they got.

And the best opportunity to eliminate him without the emperor suspecting them would be when Austin was heading to the Western Estate.

But Mira was prepared to do anything to make sure the fourth prince arrived at the Jade Mansion safe and sound.

'Alright, let's get started.' Mira whispered to herself as she stepped into position.

'His Highness brought Lily back for us. So now, it's my turn to give something back as well.' Mira smiled as she began swinging her sword.

Some hours later, Austin could be seen collapsing on his bed with a low groan.

"Ugh.."

He was sprawled on his back as he spread his arms out and stared at the ceiling with a smile.

The memory of Lina smiling today was rooted in his mind and he unknowingly let his smile grow wider.

'She really was happy to see her friend again.'

'Lily looked happy too.'

'Those two couldn't stop smiling and giggling while listening to my stories.'

'I won't lie… it felt really nice to see them that way.'

'It would've been even better if my second wife had been there too.'

'I wonder what she was doing while I was with Lina and Lily…'

'Either way, I would love to spend time with her soon.'

'It would've been perfect to have both of my wives lying beside me right now.'

Austin let out a chuckle as he imagined both of his wives sitting beside him on the bed, with Lina resting on one arm while Mira rested on his other arm.

The three of them would laugh and tease each other until their lips slowly touched.

"Yep, I can't wait to marry my wives.'

'We'd definitely be doing that every single day.'

Austin smiled at the thought as his eyelids slowly became heavier by the second.

'Alright. I guess it's time to call it a night.' Austin murmured as he began to fall asleep.

But just before his eyes could close, a new system panel appeared before him.
