Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Deal with the Devil’s Feather

One Week Later

A week had passed since the battle between Kojou and Godou, which ended with Kojou's victory—a natural outcome, given that he possessed the Golden Sword capable of severing the Divine. He had used it to defeat Godou after a two-hour-long battle.

With Verethragna's Golden Sword and his Spiritual Sight, Kojou was virtually unstoppable. A single glance allowed him to discern a Heretic God's origin and access the Memories of the Void, revealing everything about them. This knowledge let him cleanly sever their Divine power without issue.

If these abilities were publicly known, Kojou would be declared the most terrifying Campione in existence. No one—Heretic God or fellow Campione—could stop him, as their power relied on the Divine, which Kojou could effortlessly cut through.

As for humans? They stood no chance against a Campione who had slain gods and stolen their authority.

But the man in question didn't care what others thought of him. He was already planning to leave this world after his fight against Lucifer, having achieved his goal of defeating two Heretic Gods—alongside his obsession with the fallen angel.

Unfortunately, he still hadn't obtained the catalyst needed to summon Lucifer. Despite many searching for the Feather of the First Fallen Angel, no one had found it yet.

Ring Ring Ring***

Kojou was peacefully asleep in his room when his phone rang, ruining his rest.

"Who the hell calls this early in the morning?" Kojou grumbled, grabbing the phone. "Hello?"

"Hey, Kojou! You doing alright?" A familiar, annoying voice came from the other end.

"What do you want, Doni? Why're you bothering me at dawn, you bastard?" Kojou snapped at his self-proclaimed best friend and adoptive brother.

"So cold, Kojou!" Doni feigned hurt. "I heard you fought the 8th [Godou] a few days ago. It's caught the attention of other Campione—this is the first time two have coexisted in the same country without issues!"

"Tch. Just killing boredom and honing my control," Kojou said dismissively. His relationship with Godou wasn't close—he found the guy's idiotic personality grating. "Did you call just to whine that I have a way to pass time while you're stuck fishing?"

"True, but there's more," Doni admitted, a hint of envy in his voice. "Old Man Voban's heading to Japan. Looks like he wants to pick a fight with you. Thought you should know."

"Voban? That corpse-loving fossil?" Kojou had heard of Sasha Dejanstahl Voban, the man said to have slain the most Heretic Gods. "Why's he coming after me? I never insulted him."

"He's a weird old man with weird tastes," Doni chuckled. "He'll arrive in a few days to a week. As for why? He heard you beat me and wants to prove he's stronger. He's also planning to summon a Heretic God in Japan—perfect opportunity for him."

"So you want me to clean up your mess?" Kojou sighed, then smirked. "Fine, but don't expect it for free."

"Knew I could count on you!" Doni cheered. "How about the Feather of the First Fallen Angel in the World as payment?"

"The Feather of the First Fallen Angel?! You have it?!" Kojou shouted in shock. He'd spent nearly a month searching for it with zero leads.

"Yep. And it's yours if you crush that old geezer," Doni said, his playful tone making it hard to tell if he was serious.

"Fine. But if you're lying, I'll make you regret it," Kojou threatened, well aware of Doni's trickster nature.

"Relax, I wouldn't cheat my dear friend," Doni replied, his voice turning slightly serious. "Truth is, I've had the Feather for ages. But since I couldn't summon Lucifer, I forgot about it—until I heard you were looking."

"You're sure it's real?" Kojou asked skeptically. "You're saying even a Campione's absurd magical power wasn't enough to summon Lucifer?"

"Exactly. No matter how much power I poured into the Feather, nothing happened," Doni sighed in disappointment. "But with your near-infinite reserves, you might succeed."

"Alright. I'll call you after dealing with Voban," Kojou said, exhaling. He was closer to his goal, but a new problem had emerged. "But if this is a scam, you'll pay."

"No worries—I'm not lying," Doni assured. "Gotta go now. Bye!"

"Finally…" Kojou muttered with a small smile. He was pleased to finally have a lead on the Feather. If Doni wasn't bluffing, he'd have it in ten days at most.
