{Chapter: 50 - An Idea of Knights}

While seated at the desk in the operations room aboard the SHIELD aircraft, Phil Coulson glanced up from the tablet in his hand and asked, "Alright, Aiden. I need you to recount exactly what happened in that room after I left."

Aiden leaned back in his chair, his face calm, but there was a lingering hint of weariness in his eyes. Without hesitation, he replied, "After you left, the gravitational field became increasingly unstable. The tremors intensified. Dr. Hall… he couldn't maintain his balance. The fluctuations threw him straight into the gravity generator, and before I could react, he was swallowed by the gravitonium particles." Aiden's voice was steady, but there was a shadow of something deeper—regret?—lurking beneath his words.

He continued, "The generator emitted a concentrated pulse... a small explosion followed, but not nearly as catastrophic as it could have been. The gravitonium and Dr. Hall both disappeared shortly after."

Phil listened carefully, nodding slightly. He trusted Aiden—after all, the young man had risked his life to stabilize the situation—but protocol demanded caution. Without showing any suspicion, Phil simply said, "Alright. I'll send a tech team to the site to compile a formal report. But…" His stern expression broke into a rare, relieved smile. "I'm just glad there wasn't a massive explosion. You probably saved millions of lives today, Aiden."

After wrapping up the debriefing, Phil watched Aiden walk down the corridor, noticing the slight stiffness in his movements. Even a man with enhanced abilities wasn't immune to exhaustion.

---

After returning to the plane, Aiden headed straight for the private shower facilities. The warm cascade of water washed away the grime, sweat, and lingering tension from the mission. Leaning his forehead against the cool tile wall, he allowed himself a rare moment of peace. Despite his strength, despite his resilience, he was reminded today that even he was not invincible.

After what felt like an eternity, Aiden finally finished, dried off, and changed into a fresh set of casual clothes: a simple black T-shirt and dark jeans. Feeling somewhat lighter, he made his way toward his assigned quarters.

As he pushed the door open, he was caught off guard when a figure suddenly rushed into his arms—Daisy Johnson.

"Aiden!" she cried, her voice choked with emotion.

Surprised, Aiden instinctively wrapped his arms around her, feeling her small frame trembling slightly against his chest. He gently brushed a strand of wet hair from her forehead and asked softly, "What happened, baby?"

Daisy buried her face into his chest, gripping his shirt tightly as if afraid he might vanish. "I was so scared… I-I thought… What if you didn't come back?" Her voice cracked.

Aiden's heart ached at her vulnerability. He stroked her back in slow, comforting circles. "I'm here, Daisy. I'm right here," he whispered reassuringly.

After a few minutes, Daisy finally looked up, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. "This mission... it was really too dangerous, Aiden. I... I'm starting to have regrets. If I had known that joining SHIELD meant facing death like this… I think… maybe I would have chosen differently."

Aiden smiled softly, a rare tenderness on his usually composed face. He cupped her cheek with his hand. "Don't think like that, babe. Danger is part of life now. Whether it's SHIELD, or just living in this world, there are risks everywhere. Super villains, rogue experiments, aliens dropping from the sky... It's never really safe anywhere."

He kissed her forehead lightly. "But that's why we have to get stronger. The only way to survive... is to become powerful enough to protect ourselves—and the people we care about."

Daisy sniffled and nodded against him. "I want to help, Aiden. But… I don't know what I can do."

Aiden smiled, a bit more mischievously this time. He walked over to the door, locked it firmly, and led her over to the bed. Sitting down together, he held her hands in his own.

"You can help. You're more important than you realize," he said, his tone growing serious. "You know that sometimes... I can see glimpses of the future. Not always clearly. Not always when I want. But enough to know that storms are coming."

"What do you mean by storms?" Daisy asked, leaning closer, her anxiety evident.

Aiden's eyes darkened slightly. "I mean cataclysms, Daisy. Threats that will make the Battle of New York look like a playground fight. Things are coming that SHIELD won't be able to contain. Maybe even the Avengers won't be enough."

Daisy's hand tightened around his. "Then what do we do?"

Aiden's voice became calm but unyielding. "We prepare. I need to form a team of my own. People I can trust. People who will stand with us no matter what. A team like the Avengers... or even stronger."

Daisy's eyes widened slightly. "You want to leave SHIELD?"

He shook his head slowly. "Not yet. We'll stay under SHIELD's umbrella for now—it gives us resources, protection. But the truth is..." He leaned in, his voice dropping into a whisper. "SHIELD isn't the noble organization it pretends to be. It has secrets. Hidden agendas. People pulling strings behind the scenes. I don't intend to be anyone's pawn."

Daisy bit her lip, clearly conflicted, but ultimately nodded. "You're right. I've… seen hints of it too. So what do you need me to do?"

Aiden smiled warmly. "I need your help finding certain people. Gifted individuals. I know their names… but finding them won't be easy. That's why I need you."

"I'll do anything," Daisy said earnestly. "Just tell me."

Aiden squeezed her hands gently, proud of her determination. "Our first target… is a mutant. A girl named Clarice Ferguson. She has the ability to create portals that can cut through space. With her, not only can we travel freely... we can reach anyone, anywhere. She'll be key to gathering others."

He leaned closer, his voice filled with quiet excitement. "Imagine it, Daisy. A team that doesn't answer to corrupt governments. A team that doesn't need permission to act when the world is in danger. A team where you and I... lead the charge."

Daisy's eyes lit up with a mixture of excitement and pride. She placed a hand on his cheek. "Then let's do it. Let's find her."

Aiden laughed softly, feeling that he made the right first choice. With Daisy by his side, anything felt possible.

Aiden leaned in and kissed Daisy softly, sealing their pact with something more powerful than any spoken vow.

Aiden's first target was a young woman known as Blink—real name, Clarice Ferguson. Her mutant ability allowed her to teleport herself and others instantaneously across great distances by creating portals. In Aiden's mind, she was essential to the first foundation of everything he was trying to build.

Most of all, with her powers, it would be much more convenient to find other people with powers.

With her powers, travel would no longer be an obstacle. No more tedious hours wasted flying across continents or tracking individuals one by one. It would save time, energy, and, most importantly, his patience wouldn't be able to keep up without her. So Blink was a necessity.

Aiden looked determinedly at Daisy, the woman who had so willingly pledged her loyalty to his cause.

"Wait here," Daisy said without hesitation. She darted from the room with a sense of purpose and urgency, her steps quick and full of determination.

After a few minutes, she returned, carrying her slim laptop tucked under her arm. Sitting cross-legged on the bed beside Aiden, she quickly opened the device and began typing furiously, her fingers moving so quickly that they were almost a blur.

Aiden leaned in, watching as multiple windows popped up—satellite tracking, secret mutant registries, underground web forums—all blending together like pieces of a complex puzzle only Daisy knew how to solve. She was in her element, and it was a sight that made Aiden smile fondly.

Not long after, a photograph and a profile popped up on the screen. It showed a young woman with pinkish skin, emerald green eyes, and short cropped hair. Next to the photo, streams of information ran down: estimated age, last known location, powers classification.

"Is this her?" Daisy asked, tilting the laptop toward him.

Aiden's eyes lit up instantly. "Yes, that's her!"

Seeing how quickly Daisy had found Blink's information—and even tracked her location via satellite imagery—Aiden was overwhelmed with love. Without thinking, he leaned over and pulled Daisy into a deep, passionate kiss, full of silent promises.

Daisy blushed slightly but smiled warmly against his lips, pleased that she could be of real help to him.

"And who else are you planning to find?" she asked eagerly once they broke apart, her eyes shining with excitement.

"For now, Clarice is the priority," Aiden explained, his voice growing serious. "But there are others. Special individuals... each possessing abilities that could shape the future. Together, we'll built a team strong enough to survive the storms that are coming."

He paused for a moment, gathering his thoughts.

"Dear," he said, brushing a strand of hair from Daisy's face, "we might not be able to stay under SHIELD's umbrella for much longer. So we must build our own foundation quickly. Everything we discuss here must remain strictly between us."

Daisy nodded solemnly. "I understand. I swear, I won't tell a soul. And I'll also keep working on finding out my full potential. I want to stand by your side, no matter what!"

Aiden smiled. "That's my girl."

Still, a shadow of concern passed over Daisy's face. "But what if SHIELD finds out? What if they somehow discover we're building a team outside their authority? Will they... will they try to stop us?"

Aiden's expression hardened, but he remained composed.

"They won't dare," he assured her, his voice firm, laced with the confidence of one who had seen the tides of power shift before. "As long as we're regarded as indispensable, as forces of balance and protection, they'll tolerate us—just as they do the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and even the Brotherhood. They see these powerful factions as the final line of defense against existential threats beyond our world. No matter how fiercely we clash among ourselves, when the hour of reckoning arrives—the moment when the fate of this planet hangs by a thread—they all know we will stand united. Because without this world, they are nothing."

He paused, his gaze unwavering. "And remember this: strength commands respect. The stronger we grow, the harder it will be for SHIELD, or anyone else, to challenge us. Just like the Brotherhood—when power reaches a certain level, the cost of attempting to defeat us becomes too great. It's like how nuclear-powered nations avoid conflict; no matter who wins, the aftermath is mutual destruction. Even if they succeed in taking us down, there's a 99% chance they won't recover from the loss. It's a risk no one is willing to take—because no one dares to gamble everything on a war they can't win."

His confidence was contagious, and Daisy visibly relaxed. As she also understood this point.

"That's good to hear," she murmured, leaning her head against his shoulder.

Aiden kissed the top of her head gently, then stood up.

"I'm going to find Phil," he said, stretching a bit. "I need to ask for leave for a while."

Daisy nodded, her heart thudding with nervous anticipation, but she didn't try to stop him. She knew this was necessary.

---

Aiden found Phil Coulson on the other side of the aircraft, just returning from overseeing some SHIELD agents who were inspecting equipment salvaged from the mission site. Phil was chatting casually with two junior agents when he spotted Aiden approaching.

"Mr. Superhero," Phil called out with a wide grin, clapping him on the back. "Come to save the day again?"

Aiden chuckled lightly but got straight to the point. "Actually, I came to tell you that I'm leaving for a while. I don't know exactly when I'll be back."

Phil's smile faltered slightly. "Leaving? So soon? What's going on?"

Aiden's gaze was steady. "I can't tell you everything yet. Just know... it's important. I'm preparing for something—something bigger than any of us can imagine. In a way, it's about saving the world."

Phil's eyes sharpened. "You've... seen something, haven't you? With your powers?"

Aiden hesitated, then nodded once. "The future is fluid, Phil. It's not set in stone. But there are dark tides gathering... and if we don't prepare, we'll be swallowed whole."

Phil frowned, his instincts screaming at him that there was more Aiden wasn't saying. "And you're sure you have to do this alone?"

"I won't be alone for long," Aiden said with a small smile. "And if you trust me—really trust me—you'll remember what I'm about to tell you: SHIELD is not the organization you believe it to be. Not entirely."

Phil stiffened. "What do you mean by that?"

Aiden gave him a meaningful look but said nothing more. Instead, he turned toward the exit ramp.

"If there's a true emergency, contact me," he said over his shoulder. "I'll come when you call."

And with that, the lower ramp of the plane opened with a low mechanical hiss, revealing the endless blue sky and the open world beyond.

Phil watched in disbelief as Aiden didn't hesitate—he simply sprinted forward and jumped into the air, disappearing from sight.

"Aiden!" Phil shouted after him, rushing toward the ramp edge.

But it was too late. He was already gone.

Phil stood there for a long moment, heart pounding in his chest, staring into the horizon.

"What do you mean SHIELD isn't what I think it is?" he muttered under his breath. The questions spiraled in his mind, but deep down he had a sinking feeling that he wouldn't like the answers.

Turning back toward the interior of the plane, Phil made a silent promise. Whatever Aiden was planning, he would be ready—for better or worse.
