Her voice was sharp, frantic.
"I should be asking you," Bertha snapped back, not bothering to hide the bite in her tone.
Zara slapped her forehead, pacing a few feet away from Theo. "I can't believe you right now."
"Oh, you can't believe me?" Bertha fired back, clearly at her wits' end.
And Zara furrowed her brows.
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"I was looking for you. I went upstairs, around and about but you weren't there. When I asked some staff they said you'd already left."
"Bertha check your phone." Zara said, her voice firm and resolute.
"What—"
"Just check your phone." Zara repeated.
"Ohhhh" Bertha said as she saw the missed calls
"I can't handle you right now. Where the fuck are you, even?" Zara asked.
Theo, now sitting silently beside her with his hands in his coat pockets, pretended to examine the skyline like it held the answers to all of life's mysteries. He knew better than to interrupt.
