A muscular man with velvet black hair lifted his badge to a guard. The guard pushed a button and bar gate open.
"Sean, you are late." a woman said as she walked towards him.
"I am sorry, there was an emergency. My dad slipped into a comma." Sean said to the woman.
"That's no excuse, you have a job to do. Just do it, we do not bring our personal lives to work. That's how accidents happen," the woman said and turned around. As she walked away Sean followed her closely.
They entered a huge warehouse, and inside there were partitions. They walked down a dimly lit room and entered a conference room.
There were two women. A much older woman who was in a blue pants suit. Over the suit, she wore a lab coat. She was about six feet tall. She had a buzzcut that revealed the nooks and crannies on her head. The other lady was about Sean's age. She was about five-foot-two. Unlike the woman in the lab coat, she had a sizable bustline. She had dark curly hair, which she had in a ponytail.
"This is Sean Tucker, your inside man. He is one of our best and brightest." The woman said pointing at Sean. The two women shook his hand and introduced themselves.
"Dr. Amelia Tang, Biochemical Engineer." the woman in the lab coat said as she shook Sean's hand.
Sean then shook the head of the other lady. Her handshake was firm, and her palm was hard and rough.
"Taylor Brennan, Mechanical Engineer." the woman said as she shook Sean's hand.
"So, I will leave you guys in his care. I'll see you when you are done." the woman said and walked out of the room.
"I will take you guys to the room now," Sean said as he held the door open for them. He escorted them to a room where they put on hazmat suits. In that same room was a weapon cabinet. He input his security code and took out an assault rifle. They walked to a huge steel gate. Sean looked up at a camera mounted on top and gave it a thumbs-up. There was a bang that startled the ladies. There was a clunking noise, then a huge bang again. Finally, the steel gate opened. They walked in and immediately the gate started to close. The lights in the room turn on automatically lighting up the room in sections. It continued until all they could see was a blur. They walked in between storage racks, then Sean stopped by one. He pulled out a tray and gestured at Taylor to have a look.
Taylor stepped toward the tray which was a little smaller than a body tray. As Taylor unzipped the bag in the tray, Amelia got closer to her. Inside the bag was a machine, it looked human.
"It could have passed for humans if it was not for its exoskeleton," Taylor said as she examined the machine.
"What is that?" Amelia asked looking at Sean for answers.
He shook his head "That's what we need to know and possibly how we can kill it." Sean said looking at Taylor, who was fascinated by the makeup of the machine. She went for a gurney which she used to transport the machine to a place where she could work in peace.
"Please, come with me," Sean said waving Amelia over. After walking through a maze of racks they got there. On a metal gurney was a creature. Amelia walked towards it, took a scalpel, and poked it. Immediately she did a liquid squirt on her face. She was about to cut into the creature when the whole place turned red.
The siren blasted across the whole place.
Sean ran to Taylor, and when he got there the robot was up and about. As it walked towards him he shot it two times. One in the head and the other in the chest.
"What did you do?"
~ A decade ago a rift appeared in the north. All kinds of monsters came to the world through it. All humans had to defend themselves were guns are they were not effective. Many people were killed in the first invasion. The war continued for two years. The humans kept losing territories. In that same year, two beings came from the rift and they were not monsters. They had abilities that helped turn the tide of the war.
After years of fighting they cemented their status as heroes. They are called humanity's saviors. Three years later monsters are still coming out of the rifts. The Sentinel has been researching the creatures, finding ways to kill them. Recently they have encountered some new monsters they are finding difficult to kill. They have called geneticists from all over the world but there has been no progress. This time they decided to include a mechanic because one of the new species looked synthetic.~
"I brought it online on purpose. How do you expect me to fix something I know nothing about? All I needed to do was ask it some questions." Taylor said
"You are not here to fix it, it took a good number of men to put it down. Let it stay that way." Sean said still pointing his gun at the machine.
"You can destroy something that is already destroyed. I need to build it up to be able to tire it down."
"Are you worthy?"
Sean turned around, after staring for a while "Did you hear that?" he asked Taylor.
"I did not hear anything," she said as she carried the lifeless machine. He placed it back on the gurney. She then turned around to see Sean still staring at the racks.
"If you are trying to scare me, it will not work. I am scared of nothing. Taylor said as she tried to open up the machine. After trying for a while the face of the machine popped open. She got up all of a sudden making her chair move back.
"I thought you were not scared of anything?"
Sean said pointing his rifle back at the robot.
"Yeah, that was disgust. I'm fine with dead nonliving things, dead living ones disgust me." Taylor said and Sean got closer. There was a creature in the suit. Sean leaned in and sniffed it.
"It looks like it has been dead for a long time. Why does it not stink?" Sean asked Taylor who shrugged. He went to get Amelia when he got back Taylor had taken the dead creature from the suit. Amelia studied the creatures, they were almost humans. The only difference was their bones, they were much denser compared to that of a human.
As Amelia studied the creature, Taylor tried to find a power source in the suit.
"What the hell is going on?" Taylor asked as she continued to look at the suit.
"This is definitely human or at least it was at some point. What the hell is going on indeed?" Amelia said as they took samples.
"Will we be able to tell who that was?" Sean asked watching Amelia put goo and fluids into glass bottles. She put the tiny bottles in a biohazard zipper-locking bag.
"What do you think you are doing? Nothing leaves this room." Sean said and turned around to see Taylor trying to put the suit into a bag.
"There is a low risk of contracting an infection with this." Taylor stared at Sean for a while before Putin the suit back. He escorted them out.
"You do not take work home you do everything here," Sean said before the gate closed. They went back to the sanitation room and decontaminated themselves. They took off their hazmat suits.
They had kept their items in a locker. Sean took out his phone from his locker and saw 17 missed calls. He quickly got dressed and ran out. He got in his car and in less than thirty minutes he was in front of a school.
Outside a girl in a wheelchair was waiting.
"Sorry, I am late," Sean said immediately as he got out of the car. He tried to wheel her to the vehicle but she wheeled herself there before he could. She opened the front door, and with the help of the grab handle in the car, she pulled herself up. When she was in her seat she pushed the wheelchair back and closed the door.
Sean sighed, broke down the wheelchair, and put it in the back seat. As he drove he made small takes but Angela would not mind him.
After a while they got stuck in traffic, Sean honked at the other car but they did not budge.
"What is going on?" Sean rolled down his windows and asked a woman passing by.
"It's Halo, I heard she is healing people." the woman said and briskly walked away.
"Take me," Angela said looking at Sean.
"The crowd is huge, I'm not sure..." Sean stopped when he saw the look on Angela's face.
"Put on your seatbelt," Sean said and put the car in reverse. He went back a little and turned towards the sidewalk. He drove at 20 keeping his hand on the horn.
Beeeeep
Everyone got out of their way, Angela smiled as she saw Halo. He stopped the car and carried his sister to Halo.
"This was one of humanity's saviors. The one who brought humans from the brings of extinction." Sean thought as he got closer to her. She touched her and emitted a bright white light.
When everyone opened their eyes Angela was on her feet. Tears rolled down Sean's cheek.
As Sean and Angela walked away a man approached them. He handed them a file. Sean took it asking no questions. Angela was excited to be able to walk. She did almost everything she couldn't do in a wheelchair.
The next morning Sean heard Angela scream. He ran quickly to her room.
"What is wrong?" Sean asked looking around.
"I can't feel my legs," Angela said and burst into tears.
"I am sorry," Sean said and walked out. He called the Night Glare. He hoped someone would answer so he voiced out his frustration. Instead, he got the machine.
"For Starburst press 1 for Halo press 2. For event press 1 for confessions press 2." the answering machine went on. Sean went down the menu till he found what he was looking for.
"For anything regarding healing refer to the file." Sean then remembered the file he was handed by the man. He quickly opened it. After reading it he ripped it into pieces.
"Half a million for healing. I should have known better." Sean said to himself and chuckled.
He was in bed that night when he thought about the suit in the lab.
"If I could sell that or anything else I could make enough for Dad's bills and the healing." Sean thought and after a while, he got out of bed and got dressed.
He went back to the Sentinel warehouse. He was let into the storage unit. He looked around for what he could sell. He suddenly heard a voice.
"Are you worthy?"
He searched for where the voice originated from. Letting his rifle take the lead, he walked in between racks. He heard something move and turned around. He shot but his bullets ricocheted off it. It flew away and then all of a sudden landed on Sean's head.
Instantly complete darkness. Sean pulled but it would not budge. As he struggled a familiar voice rang.
