Chapter 39 - Chapter 40

Chapter 40:

Caesar didn't notice anything was wrong. This low mountain had become Lin Bai's territory. Every plant and tree was his eyes and ears. Blocking Caesar's perception was just a piece of cake.

Estimating that the distance was about the same, Lin Bai had an idea, and the entire low mountain began to shake, the rocks collapsed, and wide cracks appeared on the ground.

According to his original plan, the entire mountain would collapse, but Lin Bai had become a mountain god for too short a time and couldn't fully control it, so he caused an earthquake instead.

"How could there be an earthquake!"

Caesar was suspicious. Just as he was about to cast a spell and fly up, a golden light lit up on the top of the mountain. The extremely sharp Ruyi Qiankun Spear bloomed, forcing Caesar to change his movements, activate magic items, and raise magic shields of different colors around his body.

This time it put on everything it had and actually blocked the Ruyi Qiankun Spear.

But it wasn't over yet.

The Ruyi Qiankun Spear shrank in size and flew like a butterfly under the control of telekinesis, causing ripples on the shields and disrupting Caesar's movements.

Lin Bai's second strike arrived. The white shield flickered violently, about to shatter. A new shield layered on top barely prevented Caesar from being pierced again.

"This haunting human, how could he not be in the town and still know I'd take this road?"

Caesar was full of doubts. Knowing he was no match, he fought while retreating. He remembered there was an underground tunnel left by the kobolds nearby. If he could reach it, he might shake off this human.

But before he could take a few steps, Lin Bai waved his hand, and the remaining spears lined up in a row, firing in tight succession. In trying to avoid them, Caesar finally stepped onto the trap.

He felt his foot sink into empty air, with no time to cast a spell before sharp rocks pierced through his chest. The earth hadn't stopped shaking, and his blood stained the stone spikes red as his body continued to slide down.

When did you dig the trap?

This was the last thought in Caesar's mind as his chest lit up with a white glow and time was rewound by a minute.

After regaining consciousness, Caesar immediately saw another flash of golden light. He dared not clash head-on and leapt aside to dodge the golden spear.

The Ruyi Qiankun Spear stabbed into the ground. Caesar turned to run. His professional rank wasn't low, and his physical fitness let him jump out of the trap in a few swift steps. He cleared six meters in one jump and avoided the first trap.

Bang. Crack.

Caesar saw a familiar stone thorn, nearly identical, shoot up between his legs, and life faded from his eyes in a white glow.

This time he lasted longer, but it wasn't good news. He had no idea how many traps lay around. The path he'd just come from was clean, without a single trap. How could there be so many hidden ambushes in such a short time?

Caesar was puzzled. Lin Bai continued chasing him. He never noticed anything strange. Every time he rewound time, the memories of the past loops were overwritten.

Until Caesar tried to jump onto a side rock, and Lin Bai immediately understood. Time had already been rewound multiple times. He smiled coldly. Caesar's time rewind was even more awkward than he imagined — being able to rewind in such a short interval.

But who said there aren't traps beneath the rocks?

He had used two rock sticks, as thin as fingers, to support the huge stone, barely maintaining its balance. It was the most treacherous of traps.

Caesar fell onto the rock, balance destroyed, the ground caving in. This time there were no rock spikes waiting, but a deep pit tens of meters deep.

Lin Bai stood at the entrance of the hole, not giving Caesar a chance to climb out.

When he felt the time was almost up, the purple soul ring beneath Lin Bai's feet lit up, his eyes turned pale red, and he activated the Mad Soul skill, boosting all his attributes by 50%.

Immediately, Lin Bai kept firing attacks into the hole, golden light pouring in.

Caesar fought back, but it was pointless. He was trapped in the deep pit for over a minute, unable to escape and steadily headed toward death.

Finally, after burning through all his magic items, Caesar let out an unwilling roar and was struck between the brows by the Ruyi Qiankun Spear. His eyes remained wide open, refusing to rest in peace.

[The mission is completed. Congratulations to the challenger for clearing the SSS copy of The End of Time and Space.]

[Ding! Testing challenger performance... Congratulations on the perfect rating! The novice copy rewards have been increased, and challengers can receive double rewards.]

[Please choose two of the following three professions…]

Lin Bai let out a long breath. Though he didn't know how many times Caesar had rewound time, it must've been many. The power of time was simply terrifying.

He didn't immediately pick his rewards but used his mind to lift Caesar's body. Ignoring the blood, he rummaged through the corpse and found an irregular translucent crystal. The crystal was white — this was a fragment of the God of Time and Space's godhead, a remnant that could be preserved even in a universe-destroying catastrophe.

As soon as he touched the godhead, the previously missing memories surged into Lin Bai's mind. All those memories that had been blocked and erased by the power of time and space were restored. It took Lin Bai five minutes of sheer willpower and mental fortitude to completely recollect them.

"Huh, after going back in time so many times, the total time adds up to over six hours. This guy was really tough to kill."

Lin Bai kicked Caesar's corpse, stripped the space bag and remaining magic weapons, and dumped the body into the pit, giving it a crude grave.

Examining the magic weapons, Lin Bai frowned. Their magic aura had dissipated, likely drained by Caesar to power the godhead. Still, the materials were decent, and perhaps he could repair them in the future. He stored them without further thought.

"It's time to look at my rewards. A copy this difficult should have some serious loot."

Opening the panel, three hidden professions appeared, all generated based on Lin Bai's performance, and highly compatible with him.

[Spiritual Master]

A variant profession of the psychic, which abandoned the strange, generalist abilities of its predecessor to specialize purely in using mental power to manipulate real matter. It possessed vastly enhanced telekinesis. A high-level Spiritual Master could remotely control countless unmanned space battleships with a single thought, or wield floating magical weapons in battle, using them with precision and force no lesser than a master of the corresponding profession.

After reading the description, Lin Bai drew in a sharp breath. This class perfectly fit the development of his telekinesis. Just imagine — taking someone's head from thousands of miles away with a thought. The image alone was thrilling.

This would be his first pick. Lin Bai calmed his excitement and looked at the next one.

[Unparalleled Sword Master]

Possessing the strongest attack power and lethality of all physical professions. In exchange for unrivaled offensive might, it abandoned armor and magic items. A powerful Sword Master could slay god incarnations in a single stroke, making even deities wary of provoking them.

This time Lin Bai merely nodded. It wasn't bad, and since he could pick two classes, combining Spiritual Master with Unparalleled Sword Master meant his offensive reach and power would reach terrifying extremes.

The only annoying part was that Sword Masters couldn't use magic items or armor. A little inconvenient. Although he had dragon scale protection, Lin Bai wasn't about to turn down extra defense.

Finally, the third profession.

[Dragon Knight]

Form a contract with a dragon blessed by the Dragon God and become a Dragon Knight. The two could share talents and skills. A highly balanced profession, combining magic and martial arts prowess. It detected that the challenger possessed a Time and Space Godhead and thus granted eligibility to trace any dragon-blooded entity or dragon cub across time for a profession contract.
