They'd often get into fights with villains, and on the surface, things would look like they were being beaten down, barely holding on. The villain, thinking victory was near, would start taunting and celebrating—only for the protagonist to suddenly erupt in strength.
Veil had dealt with many of them.
Dorian Wilson was by far the weakest of the bunch. Roy and Caden Voss had at least taken Veil some time to handle. But Derek? He was on another level entirely. So far, he was the strongest protagonist Veil had encountered—his power already on par with Veil's own.
Guys like Derek had a nasty habit: whenever they were pushed into a corner, they'd either break through on the spot or unleash some forbidden technique—burning blood, awakening potential, whatever it took—to instantly reverse the situation and kill the villain.
