Chapter 12 - Chapter Twelve

 Paris

I watch Hector launch toward Achilles, wishing this fight could have been resolved with words instead. The men exchange blows, swinging their heavy swords as if they weigh nothing. Standing on the sidelines, I feel torn between my loyalty to my brother and my admiration for Achilles' courage.

Every clash of their swords sends a shiver down my spine, making me wonder if there's a way to achieve peace that doesn't end in bloodshed. Briseis darts towards us, her fearless determination piercing through the fight like the sun was suddenly lit up for the first time, stirring a whirlwind of emotions within me. My heart skips a beat as I watch her collapse to the ground. My brain wonders which man struck her.

The anguish on Achilles' face is clear, with a deep agony etched into his features like writing on ancient walls. There is an unforeseen pause in the battle, leaving us in a haunting silence that makes everyone sick to their stomachs. All three of us instantly crouched down and looked over the princess, united by a shared sense of love.

Her cries pierced the air, it was deep and raw. Filling my soul with empathy, it was clear she was in pain. Glancing into her eyes, I felt a flicker of relief. I noticed the injury wasn't as horrible as it could have been, just a gash to her side. Yes, dangerously close to her heart, but not a devastating blow.

"You must take her back to Troy, you have more herbs, more care."

"Yes, please do, I will grant you peace out of here," Agamemnon says.

I see Achilles' face red, he sees the bullshit too. I have no doubt he killed Father. "That's the least you can do, right? After killing our father?" My voice was deep, speaking the words. I hate him, I will get revenge. No matter what.

"Paris, let's just get her back," Hector says.

"Achilles", Briseis moans, her voice shaking. He kneels and rubs her face, "This may be the last time my eyes lock with yours, and my heart aches at the thought. I want you to know, deep down, that I love you more than words can express. It feels impossible to let you go, but I understand that you must." He tells her, gently rubbing her face.

It was evident to me that Achilles loves her undoubtedly, just as I love Helen.
