"See this book, Wish?"
Her mother picked up the rough book to show her. She gazed at the book in awe. Though it was old and close to falling apart, there was something about it that seemed to draw her in—like an invisible magnetic force field—and the feeling of its gaze was gentle.
"Did you make that book too, Mom?"
Mary had been a practicing witch all her life, though she worked at local bars to make extra cash to fund her passion for spiritual knowledge. It was how she had a one-night stand with her father, and then got pregnant the first time and got trapped in this hellhole of constant abuse. But this type of lifestyle and future is what she doesn't want for her precious little flower. She wanted to create a future—a bright one for her where she would be loved, respected, and at the top of the pyramid all the time. It was a future she failed to make for herself. But she hopes to do better for Wish.
