Chapter 13 - The Thornless Rose (1)

Her eyes opened to a world of darkness and rain, the down pour of it was loud and cacophonous around her.

She had a body of a pre-teen,barely passing an age of 9 or 10.

Her back was drenched and muddy as she lay on a puddle of wetted mud, there was only the Large crown of a tree protecting her from the falling onslaught of the unending drops of rain.

Her hair was a deep crimson red sprawled on the ground haphazardly, soaked in dirt water and it's luster dimmed.

Her skin was milk white and the dress she wore was lustrous and elegant, although slightly dirtied.

Yet the most alluring and eye-catching part of her were those newly opened eyes.

The pupil pitch black and the iris a dull and translucent like orange-yellow and in those irises.....

.....were spiralling particles of insignificant size by lonesome, yet dazzlingly enchanting as a whole, the particles were in numbers not too little yet not too much, an amount that accentuate her eyes hypnotically.

Yet those bewitching and exotic eyes were dazed and lost.

It was so,as she was lost....

.....lost of memory.

And this world of dark and rain was the first vision to meet her eyes.

The first vision to meet Mercelle.

This was the begining of Mercelle the orphan who will be known as Mercelle the thornless rose.....

Mercelle was an orphan with no memory of her past except her name.

After awakening she walked the path of a true healer her steps ingrained onto the lands of lagandra.

She healed with no prejudice, her hands

held warmth for all.

The rich, The poor, The damned, The foolish and Rogueish.

She held no discrimination towards life,Human or not she healed all.

Yet she was but a healing rose.... And roses were not without thorns yes?

Mercelle's markwasunknown to the world, all they could assume was it's rank, from what they could hear and see it was nothing short of a vague.

There was no disease nor injury that remained after her touch,it was a wonder of folk if Mercelle was a cure to death.

Rumors and facts passed through the air and permeated to his humble abode.

Mark Levin,A young man in his 20's.

A humble regular of a random bar in lagandra's lesser known area,as such it was no surprise for him to hear abundant of stories all around lagandra.

He had heard her tribulations at a monster hunting camp and how she turned the tides of war between the monster horde and the sent soldiers, relentlessly working herself to heal all the soldiers hurt and mid battle, risking her life until all was over with a staggering zero casualties to drop unconscious.

Though the soldiers gained the exact fame they deserved, all paled compared to the boons of the selfless labour of a 13 year old child.

That was but a rumour he had heard, and it was proven a fact easily.

There was also the story of her escapades near the ocean where she almost died protecting a child and subduing and taming a Fatal hunter of the ocean.(Author note:Read the Auxiliary volume damn it!.....Please)

As the days go by,another and another reached his ears. At some point after 5 years had passed from his first hearing of Mercelle,at the age of 29,Mark felt as though he was listening to the growth of one of his own, getting fairly attached to Mercelle.

Mercelle had matured by then, her body grown to a good extent with her figure alluring.

One day, as mark entered the bar he always attended,he saw a sight that made him stand still with shock.

He had heard of Mercelle's visage and her beauty, but never did he think to the idea that he might see her with his own eyes.

There she was, sitting on a stool surrounded by people as she healed a wounded old man.

The man seemed to have been severely injured in the leg and was brought here to the nearest place with facilities needed for the man to rest,by Mercelle herself.

«Mark's pov»

Seeing her my mind suddenly came to a stand still, she was enchanting with supple locks of hair adorning and hugging her face.

She smiled with her white and milky teeth clearly visible and shining, her eyes were just as I had imagined and learned, the swirling particles of a brighter shade of her irises seemed elfin in nature.

Seeing this I couldn't help but also smile,at first I didn't feel much about her, yet after listening to her stories for so long I had come to feel affectionate for her, it was like hearing about my daughter doing amazing things at school,it was especially so after I heard her predicament, which was awfully similar to mine, memory loss and orphaned.

I didn't even know how old I was,a year of 19 or 20 seemed likely from how I looked but after I became aware of how old I act I might as well have been 60 years old.

Seeing her,had caught me in a trance, my steps followed one other forward as I started walking.

As I grew closer I felt slightly melancholic, she was not someone that knew me and was a popular figure, it wouldn't be surprising for her to forget me after a while, despite so I persisted forwards.

But as I neared her a shadow loomed over her making me frown from a daunting feeling.

Mercelle:"Can I help you?"

She asked with a cheery smile after completely healing the old man who had thanked her refusal before leaving.

I frowned at first but afterwards an indignant scowl found a place on my face.

Mark:"lucas! Tch!"

I came to a stop to observe, lucas malive.....was a high ranking noble that is known for being lecherous.

'I swear if he even touches her hair, i would break his arms and legs! And afterwards.....'

I went on a rampage inside my head, thinking of several ways to bring extreme pain to his being.

Lucas had black hair with an ear piercing and fabulously exaggerated clothing, the worst part is that he looked good in them.

He spoke in a calm and noble tone.

Lucas:"Hello there miss Mercelle."

He slightly bowed his head and spoke in a reverent tone, much to my surprise.

Arthur:"What?"

I wasn't able to talk to her that day,but that day was a start for something.

Every day afterwards I found myself guarding and watching out for Mercelle as she was pestered by lucas relentlessly.

She was very kind in her words and was patient, only for Lucas to take advantage of it to further spend time with her.

It confused me, why would such a stuck up bastard like lucas bend his head to bow for another person of nearly the same age, especially a women?

I realised quickly that he might have a crush on her,it could not be blamed as she was a true beauty after all.

The only thing i required to know was if he truly loved her and can he change?

I did not hold any romantic feelings for Mercelle as she felt more of a kindred kin, more so a daughter, then anything else. I only wished for her to have good partner.

I blushed slightly at the prospect of being a father but alas I did not have a wife therefore there being a blood daughter for me was not possible.....yet.

Mark:"When will this guy confess damn it!"

I screamed to myself in annoyance.

As days passed by I realised something.

.....I was being a damn stalker!

Realising so I had decided to meet her and become more known and close,it would let me have a reason to be with her and help her.

But there was also another prospect that i have come to realise, more so a doubt.

Why was Mercelle still here? I could only think that It was because she was having a break, but of course she still helps people, never had she turned a blind eye to another's suffering.

It was just In her nature I supposed.

I was back at the bar's entrance once more, my heart beated against my ribs and chest.i was nervous.

She was Inside chatting with the bar owner, her voice pleasant and soft to the ears.

Mark:"*sigh*"

I sighed at my self, what kind of man would feel nervous to meet his daughter!

hmm.... Now that i think about it,it feels very creepy to say.

Either way it gave me enough courage to meet Mercelle.

I pushed open the door and entered and instantly saw her, making a smile grow on my face.

It was a bitter sweet feeling,as I felt extremely close to her yet she knew nothing of me, I didn't assume her character per say, I knew of her deeds which were facts and which were not and had become a fan of her's.

I took a step forward, hardening my heart for what's to come.

After all...

.....As they say, never meet your Heros.
